Every Girl Needs A "Make-Over" Now And Then

This is a scarecrow that I built four years ago.
I didn't build it because I had a garden
to protect, but instead I built it
because I was having a backyard
baby shower for my niece.

She was a nice ice breaker and conversation starter.
Through the years she has had a few make-overs.
One was a cowgirl outfit . . .
but for the life of me I could not
find any photos of her :(

After we bought our country home
and I had a garden  . . .
she took on a country girl look.

 ~~~~~***~~~~~
It was good for me to do this post,
because I was feeling bad about the
growth or non-growth of our garden this spring.
 Until I came across this photo
taken in early June of last year.
And this photo . . . taken in August.
What a difference a couple of months make!
 Well, today I went to the Goodwill,
to buy her a new outfit for this year.
Everything with a yellow tag was half price,
 so I looked for yellow tag items only to purchase.
Doesn't she look pretty.
Behind her is another garden.
It's located behind the Art Barn.
This year we have two spaces plowed for gardening
and nine garden boxes.
I know it is proably over kill,
but I had so much fun last year,
growing our own food.
I guess I went a little crazy planting this spring:)
 This is one of the garden boxes.
It has three pumpkins, a row of carrots
and two rows of zinnias:)
Do you see my helper on the steps to the Art Barn?
I want to thank Carol at Art & Sand.
Her post is about the need to create . . .
she inspired me to quit working today and do
something fun and creative . . .
ergo . . .
my scarecrow make-over.
Thank you, Carol.
Go read her post and get inspired . . .
I hope that you enjoyed your visit.
I love it when you drop by.
Please leave a comment,
so I know you were here,
and have an absolutely lovely day.
Keep Smiling.
Connie :)
  4. Hi Connie, How I love your scarecrows and especially the pregnant one! LOL Is her head wood? They are all darling! I think it is great that you are planting so much garden this year and growing your own food. We have had to cut down a little because of age and health but still growing some and loving it! Your pot of hen and chickens looks so healthy. I lost most of mine so filled the other holes with something else this year. Because of the clay pot I brought it in but wondered if I leave it out if it would crack. Decisions! Have a great day. Nancy
    1. Hi Nancy, I usually empty my pot in the fall and then plant again in the spring. I know that if they get water in them and freeze, you can just kiss them good-bye. I love clay pots, but they do not winter well. Yes her head is made of plywood and her arms are one of those swim noodles that you see at Walmart:)
  5. Keep smiling...your posts always help me do that. The scarecrow is beautiful. She must feel pretty good in her new duds. And now your plants will grow twice as big and sweet. I'm going over now to read Carol's post.
  8. Hi Connie :)
    I had so much fun catching up with you! Loved your picnic with the tractor. I definitely think that's what those holders are for ;) The snakes in the trees are brilliant. I think I might have to get some to save my strawberries.
    Love the girl scarecrow and her new outfit :)
    I hope you have a beautiful weekend!
    1. Hello Rue, I'm sure that those rubber snakes would work well for your strawberries. The other day a whole flock of birds flew into the apricot trees . . . in a matter of a few seconds there was this loud commotion and then they all flew away. Those snakes have been in my trees for a couple of weeks now and the lawn furniture is staying nice and clean:)
  9. Your garden is an inspiration -- I've been imploring hubby to make me some raised garden beds for years now.. I will show him yours. Hint, hint, hubby. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
    1. Hi Teresa, I got tired of waiting and just went to Home Depot and bought my wood and screws and came home and built them. They are not hard to build, the hard part is filling them with soil, but maybe you have a tractor with a bucket. We didn't.
Both of you have a love for color and aren't afraid to use it. Your garden last year was amazing and I'm sure this one will be as well. Have a splendid weekend.
    1. Hi Vicky, I see these homes that are all decorated in white and I always think that they are beautiful . . . but color makes me happy :) Someday I would like to paint my kitchen entirely white, but not for now . . . now I need color. Besides that I can not imagine my big hunk of a husband sitting in an all white room . . . it wouldn't be white for long, LOL
    1. Well, last year was my first garden, so I don't know what it would be like if she were not in the garden. Whether she helps or not, she makes me smile :) I am a late bloomer at gardening, because we had a shady and a very small yard for the last 33 years, until buying this home last spring. I love getting my hands dirty in the warm soil and I get a thrill when things start growing. Last summer I felt like I could almost sit and watch the sunflowers grow . . . they were nine and ten feet tall at the end of summer:)
  15. I had to laugh at your pregnant scarecrow. Never saw one before. I have a skeleton from X-ray school that I dress for the seasons. She went all out at Christmas. Right now, she has a tennis dress on. But you have given me a great idea. HaHa!
    1. Good Morning Melanie, Thank you so much . . . you have made my morning. I'm sitting here drinking my morning coffee making plans for my day. Planting another block of corn out in the garden. We thought if we planted half one week and then the other half two weeks later, we will have a longer harvesting season:) Then I have grape vines to trim back and a trip to town. Here's wishing you a beautiful day . . . keep smiling:)
