A Craft to celebrate our Brave Men & Women

I have been wanting something to hang
out by the gate or driveway
for Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.

So with paints in my pocket . .

An idea on paper . . .

And a stack of pickets . . .
I headed out to Steve's Work Shop.

I started to make it,
and then thought about a friend of ours,
that has a son graduating from
Marine Boot Camp this month . . .
back to Home Depot for more pickets :)

It's just as easy to make two.
I hope she likes it.

Here I'm waiting for the paint to dry
so I can go in and tweak it a little bit
and then drill holes
and put in wire for hanging.

 Finished . . .

Remembering those
Brave Men & Women
that defend our Freedom!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  1. Those pickets make a great flag Connie ... great idea! I've also seen a wooden pallet painted up like a flag. Enjoy your week!

    1. Hi Wendy, I was actually thinking about using a wooden pallet until I saw this idea at a nursery in Oregon. Theirs was just painted like a flag, no words, but I wanted mine to honor our service men and women. It was a fun afternoon project:)

  3. Oh my gosh Connie! this is super cute. I love the idea of using the pickets. It has so much character! I am pinning this and if I ever get my dream porch, I will make one to hang on it for the Memorial Day and the 4th of July! I love the 4th...it's one of my favorite holidays. Hope your week is going well. Keep crafting sweet friend!

    1. Hi Vicky, I am delighted that you like it and that you are inspired to make one. I have another project that I want to get done with a patriotic theme using old baseballs. Hopefully I will have time in the next week or two to get it done and posted, too :)

  6. Wow, you did a great job and I'm inspired! Next time I see some extra pickets, I might grab them. SCORE.. I just called my husband who was out running errands and he says we have some leftover from our picket fence! So, I might just be using your idea, if that's okay? And I want to mount it on the side of our barn. I'm going to put your blog on my blog list. I think we have a lot in common. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

    1. Thank you, I wish that I could take the credit for making them of pickets, but I saw one made this way, on my trip to Oregon a few weeks ago. I just had to come home and use the picket idea to create mine :)

  15. Hi Connie! Wonderful!! I love your sign and what it stands for. I am sure your neighbor will love it too. I told Bob I wanted him to make us one. LOL He said it wouldn't go with our fence. I think it would go just fine. It looks really nice on your fence and your cozy little place. We have a son making a career in the navy. Enjoy seeing your crafts. Nancy

    1. Hi Nancy, look it up on Pinterest until Bob sees one that would go with your fence, LOL. Maybe you could put up a flag pole ( or most flags come with a bracket) and fly a flag, he might like that better :)

  23. What a cool idea, Connie! You have such a great imagination and come up with such simple but effective ideas. This makes a real impact and I am sure everyone passing by would be impressed.

Thanks so much for your lovely comment - I am feeling pretty good now, and am taking advantage of all the opportunities to do nice things before the chemo begins and I start to feel rough again. In the meantime I have started being creative again and made my hubby a birthday card (post before the seaside outing one). Hospital appointment tomorrow morning, and they'll tell me when the chemo is to begin.
