Old Geezer Swimming Hole

This was a little corner of our backyard
at our old house.
Some of you may remember it.
It's a cattle stock tank that we hooked up a water filter
and pump to, and made a cooling off spot for
 hot summer days.

We called it our "Red Neck Hot Tub"
even though it was cool water.

Well when we moved . . .
we packed up our stock tank and bought it along.

Last week Steve and I built this fence
around this area behind the well house.
It's at the back of our property
and nice and private:)

There are a lot of weeds and bare spots,
but in time we'll have grass growing.

I've also planted sunflowers, zinnias,
morning glories and a delphinium back there.

The delphinium is small,
but with lots of love hopefully it will be a show stopper
in a year or two and fill up this corner.

 This is the entrance.
That is a trumpet vine in the planter.
When it gets bigger, I'll be asking my Steve
to build a trellis and gate.
Like the one in the first photo
that we had at the old house:)

See the little deck . . .
I built that last Wednesday afternoon.
Then surrounded it with logs from
two trees that we cut down last summer.
They make a place to sit and they hide the pool pump:)

Did you notice the bike in the background.
I want to turn it into one of those adorable planters
that you see on Pinterest.
I think that they are so pretty.

Well, I don't want to call it our redneck hot tub anymore . . .
I think I will call it,
The Old Geezer Swimming Hole.

I'll take another photo of this space
after all the flowers start to bloom
and the grass is filled in.

I think it is going to be a great place
for the two old geezers that live here
to cool off after mowing the yard and weeding the garden.

Happy Summer!
Connie :)

    1. Hi Louise, It is lovely after an afternoon of mowing and weeding . . . I'm a shorty, so there is even (barely) enough room for me to float on an air mattress.
Not a photo you will be seeing on my blog, LOL

  2. Connie, that fence is beautiful and I have no doubt the watering hole will be too. We have friends who had one of those big stock tanks in their backyard when our kids were little. My friend painted flowers on the side of it and the kids spent many hours in there.

I'm cracking up because my post that is going to pop up today has the word geezer in it too. :)

That's what it looks like. I am loving this pretty area of your yard and imagine it to be wuite the paradise when all the flowers are blooming and plants fill in nicely. Looking forward to watching the changes. Have a delightful day Connie!

    1. Exactly! When we were younger and our daughter was still at home, we had a big above ground pool in the backyard . . . it was a huge job each spring to get it cleaned and ready to fill and then to vacuum and keep clean. Guess who did that job, LOL This is so much better. We have a little filter and pump set up to it, but every couple of weeks we just drain it and fill it up fresh and clean and there is nothing to it . . . and it feels like heaven after weeding, and mowing. A great little relaxing refuge:)

  18. Connie, You are so cute and I love the things you come up with. Your old geezer tub will be just the thing and I am amazed that you built that deck yourself! Loving all the plants and bushes you are doing. Does your little furbaby go in the tub with you or doesn't she like the water? Your yard and home are darling. have great week-end enjoying them. 22. Wow, Connie, this is awesome! I love your sense of humor and your creativity. You seriously built that deck area? By yourself?? I'm impressed! Can't wait to see it with everything growing and in bloom!

  23. I like your name for it, sounds like a lovely idea after working in the yard, like how you are landscaping around it. We had planted sunflowers all along our back fence, as soon as the leaves started sprouting, something was coming along and eating it right down to the stems, my hubby thinks it is the family of rabbits we have in our yard

  24. Hi Connie, Posted but don't see it so must have forgotten to hit the post button! LOL Can't believe you built that deck! What a wonderful little spot to cool off in. Your yard and house are just beautiful and look so enjoyable. Does your furbaby like the water? Nancy

  26. What a sweet little spot to cool of in the heat of summer. We had an above ground pool for several years but the upkeep was more than we liked since usually we don't have a lot of true swimming days here. Maybe it's time for our own geezer pool : )

  27. Oh Connie, this is fun! It's going to be lovely when all the plants grow up. What a "cool" idea - literally!

  28. Great job on that little deck and all that finagling of the tree stumps! You're just a crafty girl!
I like your swimming hole! (notice, that I struck the Old Geezer part) I think you'd have to be weaned on dill pickles and a might more SOUR than you are to be an old geezer! LOL~
    You're too sweet!

  29. You are not old enough to call it the Old Geezer Watering Hole, but I like the sentiment! How lovely to have such a wonderful space to cool off. Mind you we just have to jump overboard as we are surrounded by our swimming pool! Xxx
