Check out this antique paper cutter.
I purchased it at the Goodwill for $7.99.
Here it is setting on a shelf in my art barn.
After finding it I had to Google it
and found one just like it on
Ebay for $65.00.
I also purchased this shelf for $10.
See it in the corner painted blue.
It is perfect for all my
messy paint supplies :)
In between being busy around here,
I have managed a few hours this week
to steal away to the art barn
to work on this quilt.
It has been one of those quiet weeks . . .
I love weeks when there is
time to steal away and just enjoy
the stillness of hand stitching.

The bookcase is exactly what I'm looking for right now to place in my workroom. Love the blue. Also I really love the blue and white toile skirt. So pretty. The quilt is beautiful. DeleteYou got a great deal on that paper cutter. Will come in handy around Christmas time or it would for me. I have the worse time cutting paper. I think they are making it thinner.
ReplyDeleteHi Betty, I was already thinking about that. I would love to find a large and pretty roll of all occasion wrapping paper to put on this cutter :) The other side is that I enjoy wrapping gifts in brown paper as well.

I have started sewing a lap quilt together and hope to hand quilt it too. Our daughter brought me over part of a small quilting frame! She has to find the rest!!!!! LOL Nancy
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy, I hope that she finds it . . . it's a great thing to have, especially in the winter when we don't have gardens and lawns to take up our time :) As for the paper, I really don't think it will be hard to find at all or to at least adapt any other roll to fit.

DeleteOh wow! That paper cutter! I need to go thrifting with you. You do find the neatest things. The Goodwill store in our town if rather small. They never have any furniture or large items. At least we have a Goodwill. It opened about a year ago...I was so excited!

Hi Gail. It came with a roll of brown paper, but yes the rolls that you can buy are pretty much standard, or at least that's what I hear :)

ReplyDeleteHi Beth, as for our Goodwill, I think that they just let whoever takes something out from the backroom and into the store put a price on it, because there is no rhyme or reason for the way they price things. You will sometime see a great piece of furniture priced at $29 and one setting next to it that looks like rats have been living in it priced at $89. The fact that everything is donated, you never know what you might find, but that is part of the fun of the hunt, LOL. I got very excited about finding the paper cutter and didn't hesitate for a moment adding it to my shopping cart :)

DeleteI love thrifting finds, especially when you find something that you know is expensive and you get it for a "song". Your quilt is absolutely beautiful.

Hi Carol, you would hardly be behind in my dust, LOL. I've only been quilting for the past two years. Well, I've tried it a couple of time before, but never got very far . . . it just wasn't my thing. Then two years ago I decided to give it another go and I guess that the old quilting bug bit me, because I have been hooked ever since :)

DeleteYour thrift shops seem so much better than ours. We don't very often get furniture offered in them as they are normally small shops. There are some bigger ones but we have to travel a fair way to get to them. I love what you do with your finds xxxx

It should be a fun thing to wrap up in on a clouding cold day and still feel the cheerfulness of a sunny summer day :) I've almost got it ready to add the blinding; then I'm starting on a Christmas quilt for my Steve :) Thanks for stopping by to visit, I've really been missing your posts, but I know that you have been very busy this last year. DeleteLove both those finds! I could use a little shelf like that one. Love the color you painted it. I like to look up things I find as well to see how much they are worth. I have found a few diamonds in the rough and still ahve them. Some day I will open my Etsy so I can make some money on them! Not to mention get these boxes of stuff out of my house! I always found such great deals that I started buying to resale but never ended up opening a shop and now I have a few hundred items boxed up waiting to be listed for sale. Some day.....:) Have a lovely week!

We used to have a little shop in town where you could rent a small space in the store for a booth, but it isn't here anymore and the ones that have open charge an arm and a leg . . . so i've just started enjoying some of my treasures and gifting others :)
DeleteGreat deals, that paper cutter is cool, such a pretty, colorful quilt, I wish I had room somewhere to keep my quilts up, I might do more hand quilting of them, my first ones were all hand quilted but anymore I do them on the machine to save time and get them out of the way.
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, I do both machine and hand quilting. I don't have one of those fancy quilting machines, but I do free-hand on my regular machine. I find it easiest if I do it with a quilt as you go. Then I don't have as much fabric to bunch up while sewing :)
DeleteI love to shop at thrift stores...you never know what you'll find. And lately I've been finding fabric remnants to use in making doll clothes. Your quilt is gorgeous! What a talented lady you are. Wish I was close by to learn how to quilt. Sweet hugs, Diane
