I am so excited & delighted.
Steve sawed it in half and made me a Dutch door :)
I love it!

Come on in . . .
Take a look around.

I took a lot of photos.
I don't want to bore you, but I love showing it off.

I know that I will be buried

in seed catalogs this winter . . .
planning for spring planting.

These windows are very old and there is
a lot of hard water deposit on them.
My neighbor told me that it would be better
to not clean it off because it helps filter the light.
She says the clear glass might cause
the shed to get too hot. I know that most
greenhouses are frosted glass or plastic.
That makes a lot of sense to me . . .
Do any of you have suggestions?

Some of you might remember when
I cut this hand out on the band-saw.
How do you like my sign?
I still have lots of leftover windows,
anybody want to build a greenhouse?
~~~~~*****~~~~~
It was a lot of work,
but it will be so nice next spring.
I'm planning on spending many hours
out here playing in the dirt
and growing bedding plants for my garden.
It was fun decorating it, too . . .
almost every single thing is from
yard sales or the Goodwill.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
You kids are unbelievable, that is adorable, cute, polished, useful...perfect, what a great team you two are and your work is mighty impressive. You will have hours of fun playing in the dirt. Your home and land is what dreams are made of, I am so happy for you. You have worked so hard to make it so perfect.
ReplyDeleteCarol
Good Morning Carol, this new home has been a labor of love. Steve has just under three years before retirement and we want to get these things done while we have the extra money and energy to do them :) Thank you for all of your sweet comments . . . you have made my day and it's just beginning . . .thank you for your blogging friendship I have loved getting to know you and sharing ideas with you. You come up with so many inspiring projects and I have used many of your tutorials. You're the best! Oh, and one more thing before I stop typing . . . Thanks for calling us "KIDS" that's a word I haven't heard in a very long time, LOL
DeleteOh Connie, I adore your potting shed! It is just so CUTE, and practical, and didn't cost the earth!Well done you two!!
ReplyDeleteHi Judy, Thank you so much. We looked at the pre-made one's at a local lumberyard. They were made cheaply with untreated 1X2 frame work. We built ours out of treated 2X4's . . . it will last for a very long time (after I'm long gone) LOL. Our cost was between 1/3 and 1/2 of their price, plus we got to plan it our way and had fun building it together. I am delighted that you like it :)
DeleteWhat a lovely shed.....your Steve is most definitely a keeper. I love the color of the shed and all the neat things you did to decorate the inside and outside. Gardening next Spring will be so much fun!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Louise, thank you so much for stopping by to visit . . . it will be so much fun next spring and may be hard to not start planting too soon. I'm sure I will visit out there a few times this winter and just enjoy the day dreaming of spring planting . . .while bundled up in winter clothes, sipping a hot coffee and looking out at the winter landscape :)
DeleteI really did enjoy my visit, thank you for sharing. It really was an inspirational visit, such a beautiful place to potter about. If you put some chicken wire on one of the spare window frames it will make a great notice board or place to peg seed packets. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your idea . . . I may just do that. Thank you :)
DeleteWOW. I love it and I need to move close to you so you can help me make one. Love the colors you chose for the outside and the hand sign is really great.
ReplyDeleteHi Betty, I am so happy you dropped by to visit . . . I would gladly give you some windows and even help you build your shed. Tell me when you move here, LOL. I appreciate your comment on my sign. I have so much fun making signs and have been thinking about making some and seeing if I could sell them locally. Do you think they would sell?
DeleteI love it....great job !
ReplyDeleteThank you so much . . . it is going to be a lovely place to tinker around it next early spring :)
DeleteIt is so cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :)
DeleteHi Connie, Thank you for the visit. What a lovely potting shed you and Steve have created with your hard work, imagination and creativity. Love it! Nancy
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy, thank you so much. Your letter just arrived, I'll be sitting down to read it this afternoon. Have a lovely day :)
DeleteIt looks great!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the windows, but I do know that I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the hand sign.
Oh, Carol . . . that is a treat coming from someone as creative as you. I have been having a lot of fun making signs and I am thinking about making some to sell, locally. Do you think they would sell?
DeleteYour new shed is great, Steve did an amazing job!! I love all the special details inside, and the fall decor outside too! I am not sure about the windows. I think I would leave them be if the deposits are not too thick. The one side does look pretty thick though, I might scrape some off just to be able to see through if need be, but not remove all of the deposits.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if I should even get that frosted spray paint for the other windows . . . but like you said, I like being able to see out. I'll probably leave them alone for the first year and then see how the sun effects the plants.
DeleteOh, Connie! It's so cute. Can't wait to see the things you grow from there.
ReplyDeleteThank you Laurie . . . me too :)
DeleteLove, love, love your potting shed!! So cute on the outside decorated for Fall.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Cindy
Hi Cindy, I love it too . . . Christmas came early for me :)
DeleteI love your potting shed and am very impressed with all the work to make it and how cute you decorated it, and how organized it is! I'd love to have one like that. In fact, I have the shed, but it's full of boxes and I can't get the help I need to get it cleared out! It's a gorgeous day here.. I'm going to go out looking for pretty trees. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteTeresa, I'll bet if you put a little bee in your DIL's bonnet . . . she'll be helping you turn your shed into the cutest potting shed ever :) Then you could each use it to start your flowers next spring :) I am delighted that you like mine . . . I'm a happy gal . . . doing my happy dance :)
DeleteConnie.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I love it.
xo, Roemary
Hi Rosemary, thank you . . . we had a huge stack of old windows, so what better way to put some off them to use, right :)
DeleteLoveit, Connie!! It's so sweet~~~and very unique! The dutch door is a great idea and the hand you carved out...well girl, you could sell bunches of those~~it is awesome...love the stenciled name too. As for your question, I would leave the film on the old windows for now.....just to see what it will be like for you next Spring/Summer. Have FUN!! Blessings~~~Roxie
ReplyDeleteHello Roxie, Blogging sisters like you are one in a million . . . I always get excited when I see that you have stopped by. I have been thinking about making a few of my signs over again and seeing if I could sell them. They are so much fun to make :) I think that you are right about the windows; anyway that gives them that old vintage patina, right :)
DeleteWOW, your potting shed is amazing. You two did an awesome job with it. I love the dutch door. We had one in the house I grew up in and I always thought they were the coolest thing. Your hand sign is wonderful. You sure do come up with the neatest things.
ReplyDeleteHello Ann, thank you for all of your kind words . . . I love the dutch door, too. This is going to be my main spring hang-out :)
DeleteHooray! You got your greenhouse! It's lovely... So fun to put your bits n pieces in their places...
ReplyDeleteIt blends in really well with the adjoining building - how clever.
I love the Dutch door!
Hi Alex, My sweet husband has hated that adjoining shed, only because it was painted yellow and doesn't match anything else on our property. So he was delighted when I bought enough paint to paint it, too :) He did a wonderful job on that door and I love it! This is going to be my happy place this spring when it's time to start planting seeds. The only thing bad about it, is that knowing it's out there waiting for me, will make winter seem much longer this year, LOL.
DeleteWow...I am so impressed! Not only of the design, the uniqueness, and the character...but how quickly you and Steve finished this project, too! I don't know what to tell you about the water deposits on the windows though. It does sound like it'd be a "good thing" in the long run.
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie, I love vintage and I love old rusty worn objects, so i think that i am going to call those water spots "patina" and be happy they are there:) Besides that they might be the perfect answer to filtering the light. If so I won't have to worry about the sprinkler hitting the clear windows . . . I can just let them take on the patina, too. LOL
DeleteWhat a great space, Connie! Love the Dutch door. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. My hubby did do a great job on that door. I wish that I would have taken a before photo of it when I brought it home from the bargain store :)
DeleteThe potting shed looks terrific!! Everything is sitting ready and waiting for spring. You have it so organized too ... I like the white pails with the soil, peat & compost :) I love all the little special bits you have in there with hanging baskets and that neat green shelf with the vintage bottles. What a great idea to put this together, and that dutch door will help cool things down with the top half opened. Myself, I like clean windows, and I'm not sure the water stains will keep out the heat that much.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know that it is going to get hot in there . . . but Steve build three windows up toward the ceiling that will hinge-out (green frames) and let heat escape, so that should help as well. We'll see how it goes; I can always put a small fan out there, too :) I am so appreciative for all the feedback. I've only had two gardens, this year and last . . . I'm still getting used to this country life and have a lot to learn :)
DeleteOh my goodness Connie! I am lovin' your new potting shed! it is the cutest one I have ever seen. SO many neat details!I love it all, but absolutely adore that hand sign! It is awesome! You and Steve did an excellent job!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Vicky, How do I ever begin to thank you for being such a wonderful blogging sister. You have no idea how many smiles you have spread across my face since first meeting you here in blog-land. You have a way of building people up and helping them to want to do better . . . your kindergartners are blessed to have you as their teacher.
DeleteYou're so sweet! I could say the same thing about you! You are an inspiration to me my friend. I hope your Thursday is beautiful and blessed! Hugs..(((( ))))
DeleteJust saying how I feel . . . you have a great Thursday, too :)
DeleteConnie, it's absolutely lovely, and you've done it so quickly too! It is a delight, and will give you years of pleasure in the future, I am sure.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely comment. I agree - doing art certainly takes one's mind off one's discomfort and problems! I have been doing better today on my reduced dose and had a couple of sessions in the studio (short ones!) and this evening I have been drawing!
Shoshi
Hi Shoshi, It did go up quite quickly . . . about a month and you are certainly right about me enjoying it for years to come. I am proud of you for digging into your creative ventures . . . do what makes you happy . . . life is for enjoying :)
DeleteWhat a great place for garden creativity! Love the use of the old windows.
ReplyDeleteHello Lorrie, thank you . . . it feels good to use some of those old windows and it is going to be a place to spend many a happy hour this spring :) I'm excited about looking for new seed for flowers and for vegetables. Trying my hand at growing some heirloom and some Asia vegetables :)
DeleteWell up-cycled! Yay, you finished it!! (you, *plural *) ... Watch that space! Xx
ReplyDeleteHi Alex, it felt good using some of those old windows and giving them a new lease on life. It will certainly be a fun place to hand-out this coming spring :)
DeleteConnie, your potting shed is amazing! What a wonderful space. Love the way you have decorate it. You are going to have so much fun planting and growing.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy! xxx Maria
Hello Maria, I'm very excited about it and I know that I will spend many happy hours out there digging in the dirt and watch things sprout and grow :) I am delighted that you like it :)
DeleteWonderful potting shed, Connie. I love how you have it all fixed up. Ours is nearly done. Interesting thoughts on the windows. I'm still figuring that out. xo ~ Nancy
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy, Once upon a daydream I thought of having a happy little potting shed; a place to soak up the early spring sunshine, while getting my hands nice and dirty. They say to never stop dreaming . . . sometimes these little dreams do come true :) I will be looking forward to seeing your shed when it is finished . . . I'm happy and excited for both of us :) As for the windows . . . I'm going to not worry about them and call the hard water spots "patina" . . . and as Martha would say, "that's a good thing".
DeleteI'm a little late! But, Oh Wow! Your potting shed is perfect! I would be tickled to death. Wish I knew what to suggest about the glass filtering the sun. I never could resist washing windows. You guys sure get a lot accomplished!
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet and thank you. I'm very excited about it and will be spending many happy hours out there getting my hands nice and dirty. I think it is going to be the perfect cure for those long winter blues that hit me around the end of February :)
DeleteAbsolutely Fantastic, you are going to be counting down the days until spring I can tell. You both did just a wonderful job on everything, love your little touches inside too, how neat!
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, I am truly grateful for all of the positive comments about our little project. I know that I love it, but it's nice to know that others love it, too :) Most years around the end of February I get so antsy for Spring . . . this will give me a place to go and start my planting and play in the dirt . . . and with those big windows, it will be warm and sunny and a very happy place to plan for a summer garden :)
DeleteI love it! It looks like the funniest place to be and I can't wait until you post photos in the spring! Love the door, and that sign! The hand sign! I have never seen one like that before and its just so much fun. You are going to live out there come spring.
ReplyDeleteHi Tete, the only bad thing that I can see about it, is that it is going to make winter seem even longer this year, LOL. I will be like a kid waiting for Christmas and will have to restrain myself for getting my seeds started too early. I'm so touched that you like my sign . . . I have been toying with the idea of making some and trying to sell them. We have a local creative co-op in town and if one else is doing anything like them, I might be able to get them in there on consignment :)
DeleteToo perfect! I love the Dutch door too. I have always wanted one - they seem so romantic. Haha. Yes, your green thumb will be neon in the springtime. Very exciting.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about Dutch doors. They remind me of some of the old TV shows like Ozzie and Harriette. It's a lovely addition to the potting shed . . . I am blessed with a very handy and talented hubby :)
DeleteYour new shed is great. You did a great job! You sure do come up with the neatest things. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by and for your warm hearted comment :)
DeleteConnie, I am so blown away at how beautiful that shed is. I mean, Wow! I am just so impressed. I was also wondering what you were going to do with that hand and I couldn't help but smile as soon as I saw that wonderful sign. It's perfect. I don't know much about gardening, but now I want a shed, too.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend, my friend... :)
Hello Dee, I don't know much about it either . . . Last year was my first garden and this year my second. I am learning as I go, and having so much fun doing it. Before we bought this place we had a small shady backyard and even though I tried I could not get vegetables to grow, they need a lot of sunshine. Now that we have the space and the sun to spread out and have a garden I am loving it. It is so much fun to go grocery shopping in the garden and fresh picked freshness is so much fresher that the super markets freshness, LOL. I am delighted that you like my potting shed . . . I'm sure that I will spend many happy hours out there.
DeleteI LOVE your potting shed. I miss the one I used to have....You will LOVE being out there. Gardening really gets in your blood..and especially when you have a little "house" to putter around in.
ReplyDeleteI would probably get the calcium deposits off the windows simply because I just couldn't stand looking through them. lol I think it depends on how much direct sun you get through those windows, though. If you get direct South sun all day then maybe not such a good idea. In my old potting shed I had opaque shower curtains (the plastic ones that let light through but they were "frosted") and I use used shower hooks and put up a long rod over the windows. That way I could adjust the light-wide open in spring and fall and I could shut the during the hottest part of the summer day.....just a thought. Hope you have a great weekend. xo Diana
Diana, that is a wonderful idea. We live in an area of hot dry summers and I know that it is going to be a hot spot in the summer. Opaque shower curtains . . . you are a genius! Thank you :)
DeleteConnie, I love it!!! I love the touches of green. Love the hand and the rake end you have on the wall. I would be tempted to leave the windows as is. Xoxo Lynn
ReplyDeleteHello Lynn, thank you for stopping by . . . I only have one window that is terribly bad, two are medium with hard water spots and the two big ones are clear (they had to be the ones from the front porch, where the sprinklers never hit them. I can't understand how the people lived in our home with windows like that. When we bought this house the Realtor said you'll never get them clean, but I got most of the hard water from of them. It is much different if they are in a potting shed or in your house, LOL. I'm going to leave them for the first year and then decide how much sun comes through and what to do about it. I love that you love my shed . . . I love it, too.
DeleteAnd there it is. It turned out just beautiful. I knew would. I am so excited for you and will look forward to seeing what you plan and plant next spring. Meanwhile, have fun perusing all those garden catalogs. :)
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Gloriade, I always have a lovely little moment when I see that you have visited. Thank you for being so positive and encouraging . . . I know that it is going to be a joy to be out there playing in the dirt while there is still frost on the ground. That early spring planting is going to be so glorious. Around here when you go to the store to buy bedding plants . . . they are all the same . . . now and will be able to get seeds and try a few new things each year :) Can you tell that I am excited?
DeleteWow, it is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI love your sign, and the cubbies.
I don't know about the misty windows, but am sure you could check with a local extension office to find out.
Enjoy!
Good Morning Annie, great advice, thank you . . . I love that you love it too . . . I am very excited, it will be so much fun being able to get out there when we are still having frost and dig in the dirt and I'm excited about finding some new varieties of vegetables to try each year. It is going to be some kind of wonderful :)
DeleteI LOVE your potting shed! And that door is awesome. If I could have a shed like that, I might even do some gardening. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh . . . I am delighted that you like my potting shed, it is a dream come true for me.
DeleteThis is so cute! I love how you converted the door into a dutch door - perfect for getting some extra air in when you want and peeking out at your garden. I don't have very many decorations in mine - maybe I will be inspired now after seeing yours : )
ReplyDeleteHi Mindy, my hubby did such a good job on the door . . . I love it :) This is going to be a wonderful spot to hide out, come early spring. A place to get my hands dirty and enjoy some early planting :)
DeleteThat has got to be the cutest potting shed/greenhouse ever!
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you so much! I know that it is goes to be one place that I will be spending many hours in come early spring. I'm already reading a lot of different methods of planting and repairing seed . . . it's going to be wonderful digging in the dirt and getting an early jump on my love of spring :)
DeleteI thought I'd. Swung by Here and see how y'all are doing... Look at you got your potting shed done and gussied up already! I love it! Wish our camper was going so fast! Everything look great!
ReplyDelete
