Our Last Girl's Kayaking Outing For the Summer

Welcome to Deep Lake!
Trails to hike . . .

Cottonwood groves . . .

More cliff jumpers . . .

These teenage boys were celebrating the last
day of summer before school started.

The water was so smooth, it was like a mirror.

Look at the little yellow flowers growing out of the rocks.
There were no sandy beaches on this lake . . .

but God's creative hand was evident everywhere you looked.

So Beautiful!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another great day for kayaking.
Happy Labor Day Weekend!
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
    1. Wasn't the reflections on the water amazing :) There's beauty all around us, we just have to stop being so busy sometimes and look around.
    1. Hi Susan, As we were paddling through this still water and enjoying the beauty of the land, our dear Savior's name came up over and over . . . His art work is awesome :)
    1. It has been great having a girlfriend to kayak with. I would not like doing it alone, plus you have to be on the safe side and buddy up when you're on the water. My husband has no interest in kayaking, and her husband is working, so we steal way a day or two each month and have fun together. Start asking your friends . . . you never know you might find a kayaking sister for next year :)
  4. What is the name of this lake? Were you able to swim, too? Very pretty kayaking waters. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
    1. Hi Teresa, this lake is called Deep Lake, it is a small lake that is included in the Sunlakes State Park near Coulee City, WA. There is no camping on this lake and it is deep with no beached, but back at the park there are beaches and a bigger lake. Lots of camping and lots of different boat rentals . . . when our daughter was young the two of us would drive there, pack a picnic and rent a paddle boat.
    We still hope to get a couple more kayaking times in too.
    1. I hope to get out a little bit more, but my girlfriend works for the school district and school started back last Wednesday, so your little day trips for the year are over. Now that the weather is starting to get colder, we are talking about a camping trip or two :) My husband does no like summer camping in hot weather . . . we like cool evenings and campfires :)
  6. Hey Connie,
    I have probably asked you this before, but is your kayak the kind that you keep your legs above the boat part, or do you tuck them in? I think I'd like to try the kind where the legs are out. I want to go to Logansport and Kayak on the river! I just did a blog on Logansport, I think you'll like it. Memories.....
    1. Hi Cindy, Mine is a sit in and not a sit on. If you are kayaking in a river I would suggest a sit in, but do a little research before you buy one. I was in choppy water with my friend and mine was a little trooper, while she had problem with hers not cutting through the wake as well and she had water splashing above her hull. I stayed nice and dry and mine cut through the water with ease. The best part is mine is not expensive and it is light weight and easy to carry. That was important to me, because when I go, I don't want to ask any one else to carry it for me.
  8. Connie, these photos are just beautiful! We go canoeing (my son kayaks) when we go camping. My favourite thing is to get out in the canoe and explore new lakes and rivers.
    1. I is so peaceful to paddle into quiet little coves and reeded areas, to explore places that larger motor boats can't go and where landlubbers will never see.
  13. Gorgeous photos! Is the water warm enough for swimming? I do not kayak but I adore water and swim whenever I can. I love the photos of smooth water, so serene and soothing...
    1. The water from these lakes are warm enough for swimming in late July, but I wouldn't want to try it sooner than that. It's still cold then, but after you are in, it is very refreshing. This is my first year to kayak and I feel head over heels in love with it. I can't get enough! I just celebrated my 71st birthday last week and I'm out to check as many things off my list of things to learn and to try as I can. Tom Petty has a line in one of his songs, "if you never slow down, you'll never grow old" I'm holding him to his word, LOL.
      Have a happy weekend.
  14. Oh Connie that lake is so stunning... it looks so clear and deep and clean. Is it a clean lake?? It looks alot like Lake Billy Chinook where I live.. same kind of geography... dry but with those gorgeous tall cliffs and rock columns. Congrats on kayaking! It's on my bucket list too.... I have kayaked once years and years ago.. my sister kayaks around here on the rivers and lakes, and I really want to give it a try again. What a wonderful place to go.... nature at its best!
    1. Hi Marilyn, this is my first year kayaking and I have been having a ball. I'm not that graceful anymore and after sitting in it for a couple of hours, it is a joke to see me dismount, LOL. With the technology they have today, I sure hope I don't end up on You Tube. My sweet kayaking friend is eight years my junior and she always asks if I need help, but I really want to do it alone . . . I tell her to just turn her head and not watch :)
      I celebrated my 71st birthday this month and although I may not have many more years for things like kayaking, I want to get out and do the things that i've dreamed about doing . . . now that I'm retired I have the time. I just have to muster up the energy :)
    2. Kudos to you! I'm 69 so not far behind you... I do hope I can get up the nerve to get in that little boat! My sis who kayaks alot is 10 years younger than me.. she's still pretty agile! I agree with things you've said in your other blog posts... make hay while the sun shines.... I'm trying to do things I've wanted to do, before I can't do them anymore! Working on our house is a little harder than it used to be too. I'm amazed at all you've done to your place and the things you've made yourself! I'm glad you have a kayaking friend.. my hubby dones NOT like the water and would not go with me. Hugs..
