One And A Half Years & It's Finally Done :)

Over a year and a half ago
I started making these hexies,
to make a king size reversible quilt.

 Then I put it aside
to make our daughter a birthday quilt.
Then my sweet Steve
asked me if I would make him a Christmas quilt.
He loved it :)
After finishing it . . .
I worked on the hexies quilt for a while.

Then I put it away again,
because I got the idea to make
both of my brothers quilts for their birthdays.

My brother Ralph.
 Then my brother Mark.

Next I thought about getting it back out
and working on it,
but we had a new great niece on the way.
 So I made this.

I got the hexie quilt back out
and worked on it a while,
until Spring hit
and it was gardening time, LOL.
Then summer and you know how busy
we all get during summer.
Then came another baby in the family :)

Well, the garden is all harvested,
and I have time to quilt again.

I finally finished it
and it feels so good to have it done!

I said that it was a reversible quilt,
but I finished making the bed
before taking photos of the reversed side.
Oh well, it's a spring and summer side,
so I'll show you in the spring, LOL.

Now on to the next project :)
Winter weather is wonderful for sewing.
I'm really looking forward
to spending more time
out in the Art Barn just  . . .
sewing the winter months a way:)

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

    1. Nancy, making hexies is really quite simple. Look into English paper piecing and make a hexie pattern. They are a fun lap project to do while watching TV.

  8. Your quilts are ALL fantastic. What a wonderful legacy to leave for the generations to come. I love them all. I am really smitten with the paper doll blocks. Where oh where did you ever find those? They are REALLY cute!!! You do a fantastic job and I can't believe how many quilts you have made in such a short while. xo Diana

    1. Hi Diana, I bought that fabric from Hancock fabric on line. If you go there look in their novelty fabric. I purchased it over a year ago, so in might be discontinued, but maybe not :)

    1. Thank you so much and yes it feels great. After a while an unfinished project starts to be a burden, not because you don't enjoy working on it, but something about the anxiety of just getting it done.

  15. I am 'sew' very impressed... I have been fascinated with 'English paper piecing'' and have even gone so far as to make a Mug Cozy with the hexi's... but that's it so far...
I would love to make a Hexi coverlet,,, but am afraid it would end up in my UFO basket... lol!
I luv how yours turned out... oh and all of your quilts are so lovely.

    1. You are so sweet! As you can see, I only used the hexies in the center. They are very time consuming, but those quilts that are nothing but hexies are the true works of art and heart. Maybe someday I'll actually make a full hexie quilt, I hope so :)

  16. What a wonderful story of all the quilts you have made just during the last year or so. I too am amazed at how many you've made.. and the lucky recipients... oh my! Each one is special and unique in its own way.. and I love how you put some photos in with the blocks fro your brothers. The one for Riley with the paper dolls is so darling.. and your hexie quilt is so pretty. I've always wanted to try hexies... I haven't had anyone to teach me.. but I'm going to try to find a tutorial somewhere. My aunt always loved paper piecing and I need a good lap project! You are a very talented and BUSY lady! xoxoxo Marilyn

    1. I know that was lazy of me, but it was laundry and house cleaning day. By the time I got my chores done and made up that bed, I didn't feel like tearing it apart to remake it with the other side just for a picture, LOL. If I was younger, I might have done that . . . but not at my age, LOL

I'd like to thank you for your continuing interest in my blog - which I have neglected for over 4 months. (And which is becoming less and less textile based) Your comments always cheer e up, and you have prodded me to return to blogging! Thank you again my lovely friend! xxxx

    1. Hello Sweet Lynne, your blog is one of my very favorites. Your bubbling personality come through in your writing and I always wish the posts were longer. Your textiles are amazing, but there is so much more to you than that. I love reading about your festivals, your camping trips and your musical friends. If I lived in the UK I would make a point of meeting you in person . . . maybe some of your enthusiasm for fun and enjoying life would rub off on me. I am delighted to hear that you are blogging again:)

I am hoping to spend some time in my craft room on my upcoming 3-day weekend. I haven't been very creative lately. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week and weekend.

  25. Good Evening Connie, My word, your quilts are stunning. Each person will have been so happy to receive their quilt. At the moment I am making a hexigon quilt, and I am loving it. I do think it is the type of quilt that can be picked up and put down again. I love how you have made it into a reversible quilt. I think you can tell.... I LOVE YOUR QUILT.
Connie, you are definitely a very inspiring women.

  26. Oh my. I recognize the pattern of putting something down to start something else, but my problem is that I never finish any of them! I love your quilts. I'm planning a cross-country move, and I just decided that rather than throwing treasured old clothes away, I'd have them made into quilted pillows. I hope that idea turns into reality!
