Thrifting and Painting

Last week Beulah and I

just wanted to get out of the house

so we went for a drive

and ended up at a favorite thrift shop.

Where I purchased this

lovely hand embroidered table

cloth and four matching napkins

for $4.00.

Oh, these are the last of my

summer flowers :)

I'm going to miss having

fresh bouquets on the table.

Before they were blue

Maybe you noticed that I

painted my kitchen chairs

white to match the

new paint job on the cabinets.

I still had a little bit of

white paint left over . . .

I also painted my bed . . .

I told you that I cannot be

trusted when there is a

can of paint around.

Well, I used every drop

of paint in that can.

I'll have to go paint shopping

if I decide to paint

anything else, LOL.

Back to the thrift store

I purchased this little

clipboard, also $4.

Here it is in the kitchen window.

And this painting . . .

also $4.

Four dollars must be

a trade mark for these

types of items in this store.

Our temperatures are getting

down close to freezing,

but until they reach that point

I'm enjoying fresh veggies

from the garden.

If you're still here

and not bored to death by

my post  . . . thanks so much

for visiting.

Do you have a favorite

from my re-dos or thrift finds?

God bless you all . . .

Your blogging sister,

Connie :)

  1. Bored by your post? Never!! I enlarge your pictures so I can admire your home and the various projects that you do so well. Cozy is what always comes to mind. You found such pretty treasures at the thrift store. Imagine how many hours of embroidering went into the table topper and it gets sold for a mere $4. That's why we haunt those thrift stores, right?

    1. I know, I imagine that some sweet lady put a lot of time into making it and probably kept it all clean and ready for special occasions. Then something happened to where her children didn't want it or she had to downsize and it ended up in the thrift store. I love it and I'm glad that I saw it there because I think it looks lovely on my table.

  2. Not bored at all!
I love the tablecloth and I think whoever did it would be thrilled that it's in a place to be enjoyed!
I like the white chairs and headboard too.
I have a little clipboard just like that except mine is a blue color.
    Have a good week!

  4. I think all of your new (old) treasures might have come home with me too Connie - those are very reasonable prices. I love the little clipboard & have one that I am thinking of painting for a small verse to go on. Mine is dark coloured & I loved your white fresh looking one. Your kitchen chairs look wonderful & your whole kitchen looks lighter. My computer is playing up so I hope this publishes okay. (Julie from mythreadbearlife. ) xx

    1. I know I don't need to be going to thrift stores, I need to be donating to them. But it is so much fun to go on an affordable treasure hunt :)

  6. Never bored by your posts! I love the little tablecloth and napkins. They remind me of the French linen I used to find in the 'Brocantes' in France.

  7. I don't think anyone would ever be bored by your posts, my dear friend! I love your thrifting finds - what a great deal you got on everything. It was meant to be that you and Beulah went for a drive. :-) And I noticed right away that you had painted your kitchen chairs. They make your kitchen look even fresher. Nice re-do! Looking at the photos of your cozy kitchen, I can picture myself sitting there with you and having a cup of tea (or coffee) and having a nice chat. Definitely a room I'd feel right at home in. Hope you have a beautiful and blessed week. {{hugs}}

  9. Great find with the napkins, Connie. You saved beautiful handiwork. I look for used flannel and cotton sheets for my sewing projects.

    1. I would love to see what you do. It's always inspiring to see other people's handiwork. A lot of times you get ideas that you would have never thought of on your own, or at least I wouldn't have.

    1. I see so many wonderful quilts and aprons made from old linens or embellished with them and I think they're gorgeous, but when I find some I just don't have the heart to cut them up and re-use them. Maybe I need to get brave :)

  14. Thought I commented on this post, but maybe not! My fave is the little chippy wood clipboard! Love it.. and can put any pictures on it or scriptures, quotes, etc. I might try to make one. I do have something similar that my son gave me but is heavy and dark wood, so needs a wash of white paint! I have it hung on my wall by my computer, and put different photos on it. Love anything you paint white too! Wish I could go wild with a paintbrush here as so much needs to be white and not dark wood. I'd even paint my old cherry wood china hutch, if I had the motivation to pick up the paintbrush! I don't know how to paint on nicely finished wood, like old antique furniture that has a nice shine to it. I know "they" say chalk paint works right on top, but it's awfully spendy. You certainly had fun at the thrift store! Hope your weather is not so hot during the days. We haven't hit freezing at night here yet.. closest it's gotten is 39 degrees. That's enough for me, just right in fact. Take care.. Marilyn

    1. Next Thursday we are suppose to hit the freezing mark, I'm not looking forward to it. For one thing I already have a full week. Starting tomorrow I have one or two things going every day between now and next Thursday and I would like to process as many tomatoes as possible in the meantime and get the garden all cleaned out. I just plan on making freezer soup stock, it's will be great for those cold winter days ahead.

  15. Wow! I love the white kitchen!! Looking at all the past photos, I would say the white is my favorite :) You're already having freezing temps? My goodness! Here in Texas we are still hitting 90's. They say a front is coming, which will give us 40's and 50's. I can't wait!!

  19. very pretty. I love painting things if the original finish is in rough shape, if its beautiful wood, I clean it up and leave it. But paint sure can bring life and beauty back to a piece. Unlike you, I am not a big white fan, I prefer an off white instead. However, my move in Dec. brought me to a new build with white cabinets, that since new, I will not be touching! lol.....

    1. After you've lived with them a few years you might change your mind and add a little color :) I think we all have to put our own personality into our homes that's what makes them cozy and warm. I know that's easier for me to say since I have an old house that needed fixing up. If I had a brand new build I might feel different.
