Sunday Drive

Saturday it rained all day,
and hard, and today the desert was green.
Look at all the sagebrush . . .
far as the eye can see.
We turned off the main road
to this primitive road and found . . .

This :)
If I were not so afraid of rattle snakes
I would want to come back here and kayak.

This is the little town of Soap Lake.
They were having mini hydroplane races,
so, we stop and I took a couple photos.

Soap Lake has mineral rich water
and has been thought to have healing powers.
It is a fact, that Native American Tribes
would call a truce when they came to Soap Lake.
Here they would relax
and heal themselves and their animals.
During the 1920 Washington State tourist guides
referred to Soap Lake as the
"world's greatest mineral sea".
People came in flocks to bathe in the healing waters.
Even today there are water fountains in town
with lake water running through them,
and many people come and fill jugs and
swear that drinking a glass full daily is
of huge benefit to their health.
I tasted it once . . . no thank you :)

Along the northern end of the lake
there is a camp ground.
There you can swim in the waters and even
rent a teepee for your stay.

Moving on down the road and closer
to our destination.

Oh, I just had to try my hand at taking a selfie, LOL

 This is Blue Lake.
It is about a 35 to 40 minute drive from our home.
We were driving up here today to
check out a couple camp grounds.

 After seeing the camp grounds
we kind of fell in love
with the looks of this one.

It's off the main road
and had this sweet swimming area.

It also has lots of shade, allows pets
and has fire-pits.
Camping is no fun without a campfire :)
I also think it would be a great place to kayak.

We are hoping to return,
for at least one camping trip this summer.
For today we just unpacked our picnic
and enjoyed the pretty day.

Well, that's it . . .
I hope you enjoyed tagging along with us.

Remember:
Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

    1. Hello Pam, thank you for stopping by to visit. I'm happy you like my glasses. They are regular glasses with photo-gray lenses. I always get silver, gold or brown, but these are new and I took a plunge and choose turquoise :) I also do most of my traveling through the eyes and adventures of my sister bloggers, too. It's fun to see the areas where they live and see them through their eyes and not what the travel brochures have to offer.

  2. Yes, I enjoyed tagging along on your journey! It sounds like you picked a great campground and had a lovely day. I'm always interested in seeing campgrounds because we are RVers. Hopefully, one day, we will make it up that way.

I did not know that you had rattlesnakes in that part of the country! I'm surprised! I thought they were mostly in the south. Nevertheless, I don't blame you for not wanting to go where they might be. Snakes are CREEPY and rattlesnakes---oh no, no, no! I've had my share of encounters with snakes and right in our backyard. Thankfully, they're not poisonous but they still scare me! I don't like any snakes. In fact, I recently posted about one getting into a birdhouse on my Smiles For Many Miles blog if you're interested. :(

I look forward to seeing your camping posts in the future but come to think of it, I look forward to all your posts! They are always fun and wonderfully creative!

Have a blessed and beautiful day Connie!

  5. Hi Connie....oh yeah..ha...I just looked back and see those flowers (and corn etc) were last summer's. For some reason I keep thinking you live in texas..ha..I know Washington and Oregon are very large states (something hard for a Delawarean to grasp) but I just flew into Portland this past weekend and attended a wedding reception in Stevenson Washington. So now I really know what your area is like...sort of...I hear some areas are very different than where I was! Beautiful pictures! Andrea

    1. When I moved to Washington state I expected the evergreens and mountains of the west side of the state. That is what you always see in photos. I arrived in our town in the middle of the night, just to watch the sunrise over the desert. I was in shock! It is a vast state with many different terrains and climates. I've lived here over thirty years now and this rugged desert area has grown on me. It's quite beautiful:)

    1. I know . . . some people like pool swimming, but I really enjoy lake swimming. This lake is so clear and clean, I'm sure that we will be able to sit very still in our kayaks and see fish swimming by.

    1. It looks like fun doesn't it . . . I can imagine a family with children staying there and reading books together on native American history. There are also many caves near by to hike to and explore.

    1. Hi Melanie, True Story: A friend of ours took a trip to Germany many years along. When he returned he was telling us about this day trip he took while he was there, to this famous mineral lake. He went on to tell us that there was only one other lake like it in the world. My Steve started to laugh and then told him that the other lake was Soap Lake, right here in our county. He said, "Only you would travel clear across the world to discovery it". We still laugh about it when we get together :)

    1. Hi Connie, it is nice that there are many campgrounds that are full hook up. We prefer that to, because my man likes to have as many of the comforts of home as possible. Camping is not what it used to be, but the great thing about it is with the needs of your husband, it makes camping still possible. That in it's self is a blessing :)
