Last week a friend
came over and cut down a dead tree
out by the garden boxes.
I ask him to leave a stump
for me to put a birdhouse.
I built this and put it up yesterday.
I put a divider in the middle
so that there are two floors.
Hopefully the birds will like it :)
The roof is a scrap of plastic wallboard
leftover from our shower wall.
Then I took a cake pan from the Goodwill,
sprayed it with green paint,
and wired it on.
Then I planted hens & chickens
and other sedum.
If I were a little birdie
I would move right in :)
As the morning sun is coming through
our kitchen window,
I am reminded that our day is suppose
to reach the 90's.
So, I'm off to work in the garden while
the air is still cool and fresh.
Have A Lovely Weekend.

Keep Smiling!
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
I love it, it really made me smile. It is indeed a really fun idea. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI hope the little birdies love it as much as you do, thank you for your sweet and encouraging words :)
DeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteLove the morning sunlight pouring in. So hopeful!
Hi Sandi, thank you . . . Each day is a new adventure :)
DeleteConnie, I am always amazed when you say, "I built this", like it's nothing. :) That bird house is so cute! I have to stand and look and figure and plan and still don't know what I'm doing. Building looks so easy for you. Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Henny, if I used a plan I would probably be confused too. I just go to the scrap pile and see what is available and start building :) If you just do your own thing, who is there to say anything turned out wrong . . . however my projects turn out . . . is just the way I intended, LOL.
DeleteWhat a neat birdhouse! I hope the hens and chickens thrive up there. Have a super weekend. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa, I have found that sedum is so forgiving, it grows well for everyone. I'm happy you like my birdie house :)
Deletewhat a cute birdhouse. I love it. The garden roof was a clever idea too
ReplyDeleteHi Ann, it may take all summer but those sedum should spread and hang over . . . then they will be there for years to come:) I'm delighted you like my little home for the birds.
DeleteWhat a CUTE birdhouse! I especially like the succulent rooftop! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
ReplyDeleteHi Marci, They will look really pretty after they have had a little time to spread out all over the rooftop. I've been having fun building birdhouses and painting them all red and farm like . . . We only have one acre but we like to call it our farm. No farm animals but a huge garden.
DeleteWhat an adorable little bird house, Connie, and I particularly love the ladder up the side lol! Just in case they are too tired to fly in lol lol!!! You have thought of everything for their comfort! Your kitchen window is so charming, too. I hope the weather isn't too hot for you - I don't think I could stand all that heat!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely comment and your birthday wishes. We had such a lovely day. I do hope I can get to the weaving class but I think it may be on a day when one of my "Moving On from Cancer" course sessions is taking place. There will be other classes, but I really wanted to go to this particular one.
Shoshi
Hi Shoshi, I'm delighted that you like my little birdhouse and do hope you can make the weaving class, it looks like it will be a wonderful experience and fun craft to learn.
DeleteI'm sure the birds will love it!
ReplyDeleteI like the rooftop.
Keep as cool as you can 90's is hot!
All the best Jan
Give that rooftop a year or so to grow and I think it will be amazing. I hope the birds like it :)
DeleteSimply adorable birdhouse! Great idea for a stump, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm just trying to make my garden area a little bit whimsical and add some fun. I was deciding between using the stump for a birdbath pedestal or a birdhouse, the birdhouse won, LOL.
DeleteHi Connie, What a fun bird house you have built! It will be interesting to see what birds make their home there! We have been having some warmer weather also. Have a lovely week-end. Nancy
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy, thank you . . . here's wishing you a wonderful weekend, too. I know how humid Indiana can be in the summer . . . stay cold.
DeleteThat is an amazing birdhouse that you built. I like the bold red colour and the roof pan with succulents! Great idea.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Those succulents will grow out and spread, then it will really be pretty :)
DeleteCute birdhouse, Connie. Keep taking breaks in that sweltering heat. I nearly did myself in yesterday working in it.
ReplyDeleteHow is your kayaking going?
Hi Laurie, so far it is still in the shed. Next Friday should be my first time out. I'm really looking forward to it:)
DeleteThat's a lovely birdhouse! I think the birds will love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I sure hope so . . . but if not, it still brightens up the garden :)
DeleteLove the birdhouse! Very unique!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much :)
DeleteThat is so cute, I hope the birds appreciate their stylish home. 90 degrees, we have had to put the woodburner on as it has been so cold and it's supposed to be summertime. Have a good week xxxx
ReplyDeleteIt got up to 98 today and is suppose to be 101 tomorrow. Hot & Hotter . . . it is only suppose to stay this way for a few days, then start going down again. I sure hope so :)
DeleteThat is just fabulous Connie, love how you have decorated it, I am sure some birds will be moving in very soon!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing like working in the garden in the early morning while it is still cool and fresh!!
Hi Connie, I just came in from working in my garden this morning. It is 10 A.M. and already 98 degrees outside. Time to stop! I usually like to get my housework done on Mondays before going out to the garden, but in this weather, housework can be done in the later part of the day, under the air conditioner, LOL.
DeleteLove the birdhouse, Connie - hope you have some visitors soon! Gorgeous weather here today after a dull, cold couple of weeks. I'm back in circulation and catching up on all the blogs I love to read …. some of them go back WEEKS! That'll teach me! ope all is well with you and yours, my dear friend. L xxxx
ReplyDeleteHello Lynne, Good to hear that you are getting some pretty weather. Have fun playing catch-up on all your favorite blogs. I feel honored that you count my blog among them, thank you :)
DeleteI'd move right on it too if I were a bird! We've made a few duck boxes with old tree stumps, they really like to get in there and lay eggs... we've had a huge problem with ants this year... the ones that eat wood?! They were so bad that the ground looked like it was moving. I put out some borax and powdered sugar and it seems to be working.. I had no idea that ants ate wood till this year. It's been hot around here too! It's a great idea to get out early and get the work done!
ReplyDeletePlease tell me more about this borax and powder sugar mix. We don't have them that bad, but I do have some moving in around the entrance to the garden. I would hate to have them start eating my plants.
