Birdhouse In The Garden

Last week a friend
came over and cut down a dead tree
out by the garden boxes.
I ask him to leave a stump
for me to put a birdhouse.
I built this and put it up yesterday.
I put a divider in the middle
so that there are two floors.
Hopefully the birds will like it :)
The roof is a scrap of plastic wallboard
leftover from our shower wall.
Then I took a cake pan from the Goodwill,
sprayed it with green paint,
and wired it on.
Then I planted hens & chickens
and other sedum.
If I were a little birdie
I would move right in :)
As the morning sun is coming through
our kitchen window,
I am reminded that our day is suppose
to reach the 90's.
So, I'm off to work in the garden while
the air is still cool and fresh.

Have A Lovely Weekend.
&
Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  3. Connie, I am always amazed when you say, "I built this", like it's nothing. :) That bird house is so cute! I have to stand and look and figure and plan and still don't know what I'm doing. Building looks so easy for you. Have a good weekend!

    1. Hi Henny, if I used a plan I would probably be confused too. I just go to the scrap pile and see what is available and start building :) If you just do your own thing, who is there to say anything turned out wrong . . . however my projects turn out . . . is just the way I intended, LOL.

    1. Hi Ann, it may take all summer but those sedum should spread and hang over . . . then they will be there for years to come:) I'm delighted you like my little home for the birds.

    1. Hi Marci, They will look really pretty after they have had a little time to spread out all over the rooftop. I've been having fun building birdhouses and painting them all red and farm like . . . We only have one acre but we like to call it our farm. No farm animals but a huge garden.

  7. What an adorable little bird house, Connie, and I particularly love the ladder up the side lol! Just in case they are too tired to fly in lol lol!!! You have thought of everything for their comfort! Your kitchen window is so charming, too. I hope the weather isn't too hot for you - I don't think I could stand all that heat!

Thank you for your lovely comment and your birthday wishes. We had such a lovely day. I do hope I can get to the weaving class but I think it may be on a day when one of my "Moving On from Cancer" course sessions is taking place. There will be other classes, but I really wanted to go to this particular one.

    1. I'm just trying to make my garden area a little bit whimsical and add some fun. I was deciding between using the stump for a birdbath pedestal or a birdhouse, the birdhouse won, LOL.

    1. Hi Connie, I just came in from working in my garden this morning. It is 10 A.M. and already 98 degrees outside. Time to stop! I usually like to get my housework done on Mondays before going out to the garden, but in this weather, housework can be done in the later part of the day, under the air conditioner, LOL.

  17. I'd move right on it too if I were a bird! We've made a few duck boxes with old tree stumps, they really like to get in there and lay eggs... we've had a huge problem with ants this year... the ones that eat wood?! They were so bad that the ground looked like it was moving. I put out some borax and powdered sugar and it seems to be working.. I had no idea that ants ate wood till this year. It's been hot around here too! It's a great idea to get out early and get the work done!

    1. Please tell me more about this borax and powder sugar mix. We don't have them that bad, but I do have some moving in around the entrance to the garden. I would hate to have them start eating my plants.
