Decorating With Yard Sale Finds

Friday morning I went to a yard sale
and found this for $10.

After painting . . .

And stenciling . . .

I had this new piece for the Art Barn.

Next I added some contact paper from Duct Tape
to the back and the top shelf.

It provides more storage and will be a nice place
to set a cup of coffee and my pin cushion
 this winter,
while I sit here and do hand stitching.

I love decorating my creative space
with yard sale finds.

I don't worry about color,
the more the merrier in this happy space:)

Have A Great Week
&
Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

    1. I'm always on the lookout for furniture with storage-space for the Art Barn. It's also a place where the more color the better . . . my space to get a little crazy, LOL

  3. I am wondering with all your garden how you manage to do all this stuff. Love the latest find you refinished and also love the chair sitting beside it. Did you reupholster that? What a peaceful place to sit and hand stitch! Enjoy! Nancy

    1. Hi Nancy, that chair was setting beside the dumpster at the assisted living facility where I used to work. There was a little wear in the fabric on the arms of the chair. I made that cover for it using several different fabrics all in shades of blue. Making slipcovers is not my favorite thing to do, it's not easy getting a good fit. I think I worked around 8 hours on that slipcover. I am glad that you noticed it and that you like it, thank you :)

    1. Thank you Betsy, I do enjoy my creative space and try to fill it with functional furniture that I am not afraid to have fun with. I enjoy mixing colors and making it a happy place to work. I use it a lot more in the winter when there is not gardening to do, LOL.

  6. I could absolutely move in to your little art barn. It's just not fair that you have all that talent. :) I've seen tables like that in thrift stores before and never thought of changing one into something so pretty. Connie, you can just do everything!

    1. You are so sweet, all that I did was slap some paint on it. In fact the colors came from using up the little bits of leftover paint I had on hand. I even mixed a little white with each color to be sure that I had enough to paint this. I love my art barn and like it to be a happy cheerful spot to play in . . . and color makes me happy :)

  9. I love it Connie! What a great find and great price too! You worked your magic on it and it turned out so cute. I was talking to my hubby the other day about an idea I had that was inspired by your art barn. Right now we have my craft room and his man cave in our home, but I would like more space and he would too. I thought it would be cool to do something similar to your art barn and make half of it his and half mine so we could be together but have separate areas too. We are adding that to our never ending list of things to do. LOL! Have a lovely weekend.

    1. Hi Vicky, if you are planning on purchasing a ready made barn and have an Old Hickory business near you, look into their options. They build them to fit your ideas. One loft, two lofts, no lofts, single pane windows, double pane windows, barn door, man door, one door, two doors . . . not only that but they delivery them and don't leave until they have leveled them and placed them exactly where you want them. We were so impressed. Mine is 14x24 feet, but they make them as large as 14x40 feet. It's a great dream . . . all good things begin with a dream :)

    1. I think it will be a great spot for hand-sewing this winter. This will be the first year with the fireplace out there and now having this piece next to the chair will be very handy, before I was sticking my pins into the arm of the chair as I sewed, but now I have a place to set a pin cushion and a bottle of water :) Winter is looking better all the time, LOL

    1. Hello Summer, I don't remember seeing you here before so the first thing that I want to do is send out a warm welcome. I love getting visitors and wish there was a way to actually invite you to sit on the porch and enjoy a lemonade as we visit. Thank you for your sweet words . . . I do like finding old thrown out pieces at yard sales and giving them new life. Although; I do enjoy the vintage farm and cottage look, when it comes to my Art Barn I enjoy adding lots of color and trying a mixed up happy go lucky decor. Thank you again for stopping by and please know that my welcome-mat is always out :)

  31. What a neat job you did on this piece! What kind of paint do you use? I haven't painted too much furniture.. just small pieces using spray paint.. but would love to tackle something larger. It looks just darling in your craft space.. and so cozy there... just waiting for you to come once the weather starts acting up and showing signs of winter. Love the blues and contact paper, and stencils!

    1. Hi Marilyn, I do get a little bit crazy with color out in my Art Barn . . . it's a fun place and I want it to scream "happy" when I walk in :) It is easy to go out there and just loose track of time. Once the weather is cold, I spend a lot of time out there. I've been stocking up on fabric . . . driving on icy roads is something I don't have to do, now that I'm retired . . . so having supplies ready for sewing is a sweet blessing.

    2. I LOVE all the color in your Art Barn.. and love the white everything with the blue toile curtains. I love toile and want to use pink toile in my pink bedroom. I'm afraid I'm a fabric collector and hoarder... I never have to worry about going to the store in the winter as I have PLENTY at my house to keep me busy for the rest of my life.. although I still love to go to the fabric shops, especially the small local ones, and ooh and aahh over all the new stuff. When I want to find a big piece though, for curtains, etc., then I usually do have to make a fabric shop run! I am lucky to have my own bedroom as my craftroom and it is wall to wall shelves and fabric and paper supplies.. but I love it.
