My Whimsical Doll

Last week I was strolling through cyber space when I came across the cutest little doll.
Well, when I see something I like, I just have to try my hand at making one, too.
I've never been a doll maker, but I'll try almost any project at least once.
How do you know what you can do . . . if you never give it a try, right?

I am so sorry that I can not remember the blog
that I saw this doll on.
If anyone knows please let me know and I will post their
blog and link.
The one I saw was red, and was sitting in a shoe-box lid.

I created my pattern from the photo of the doll I saw.

I cut out two and sewed them together . . .all the way around.

Then I cut a slit down the back and turned my doll right side out.

I stuffed it with batting and painted in with Gesso.

Then the fun started and the decorative painting began.

Painting is not just fun . . . but it is what brought her to life :)

Here she is, my new baby . . .
born February 23, 2013
I hope you find her as much fun as I do :)

This is my new thrift store find.
I am so excited and I cannot wait to get working on this project :)
be sure and check back . . .
I think this is going to be very special  . . .I hope I'm right .

Wish me luck :)
Have a great day . . .I'm off to get started.

    1. Hi Maria, and thank you so much . . . the truth is that most of my projects do turn out nice, but the ones that do not, will never be seen on my blog, LOL. Unless I do a post on crafty mishaps. That is an idea :)
Have a sweet day, Connie :)

  2. Wow, Connie! When I first saw your new baby, I had no clue that you painted her, I thought that you matched up fabric. This is fantastic. I am wondering why you use pinking shears around the outside of your pattern? Does that help for sturdiness or something?

Way to go once again, my friend.

    1. Hi Kathy, to tell you the truth I really don't know . . . I think they are suppose to help from having your seams unravel . . . that's a good question . . . maybe some of my readers will have a better answer. I use them because my Mom did, LOL.
Have you ever heard the story of the young woman that was cooking a ham. Before she put it in the pan she cut the end off. Her new husband asked her why she did that, and she said because my Mom always did it that way. So, then she asked her Mom why she did it that way. Her Mom's answer was, because your Grandma always did it that way. Then the Mom asked the Grandma, "Why do you always cut the end of the ham off before you cook it?" The Grandma replied, "because my pan is too short." So, that my story, too . . . LOL.
Kathy, you go out there and have yourself a delightful day,
      Connie :)

    1. Hi Janet, thank you so much . . . I had no idea how she would turn off, but I had so much fun, that now I am making another, but totally different from this doll. I love being retired and having so much time for projects that I enjoy, rather than all the projects that get thrown on your desk when you're working for the man, LOL.
Have a marvelous day and thank you so much for stopping by and visiting:)

    1. Hi Carol,
I had a lot of fun making it and now I'm making another, only it actually looks like a girl. I will post photos of it at a later date. I'm making it for my granddaughter's 7th birthday. Thank for you your greatly appreciated encouragement. I have been brain storming to find items that I could sell in an on-line shop. Items that would be easy to send through the mail, without danger of breaking, and foremost, fun to make :) Dolls might be the answer . . . I really don't know "!?#@*&%?!4? " Then again my life is busy with many things and it seems like Spring through Fall is a whirlwind. I might be crazy to even be thinking this way, but when you enjoy creating . . . you have to have something to do with the items you make. I'm so blessed . . . what a problem to have, right. Millions of people would die for my piddly little problem. God forgive me for even calling it a problem. If you have actually stayed long enough to read all of this . . . thanks for being such a sweet friend. Your blogging sister, Connie :)
