Welcome To Our Back Porch

Come relax awhile with me on our back porch.

I've been fluffing it up for summer.

Did you notice that I'm in this photo.
Look in the mirror . . .
there I am with my camera.

This is one of my favorite projects this year.
I purchased this dresser mirror for $5.
Painted it white with crackle medium underneath.
Then I hung the frame that the mirror swiveled on upside-down on the wall
with the mirror setting on what should be it's bottom.
Next I added the little shelf  (after painting it white) that I purchased for 50 cents at another yard sale.
Can you see the silver that is worn off the back of the mirror?
The candlelight makes it sparkle.
I love this piece :)

This is a croquet set that I purchased at Wal-Mart
in a plastic zipper bag.
A few years ago when my brother was visiting,
he and Steve were out in the shop tinkering around,
when I went out with a sketch
and asked them to build me this stand.
You can't see the wheels in this photo,
but it has wooden wheels and can be rolled out to the yard.

These paper lanterns have fairy lights stuffed in them,
and they look so pretty at night.
I purchased them at the dollar store,
and used white fairy lights from our Christmas tree.

I can't take a photo shoot of my back porch
 without including my vintage fridge.
love that old fridge,
and it is always filled with drinks and watermelon in the summer :)

Can you guess what this is?
If you guessed Gypsy Rose . . . You are right!

Go visit Steve's Blog at:

And see his latest photos.
We are almost ready for launch day :)

Stay happy and please leave a comment and let me know you were here.

    1. Hi Sandy, if you lived closer, that is just what we would do. I would even bake a pie or slice a watermelon.
It would be fun sitting there chatting and getting to know each other better. Have a lovely week.

  2. Well, first, I love the little round table with the pale green legs, I bet you painted the whole thing. I adore the big cabinet, that was a kitchen cabinet I think. Wish we had a porch like this. I grew up with a big screened in front porch, there is just nothing like one for childhood memories. I do see you in the mirror! Did you just take a mirror frame and put a chalkboard in it? I think it would be harder than it looks. WHY didn't I think of putting Christmas light in my lanterns?? I used to have a freezer like your fridge, sure do miss it. Boat is beautiful!

    1. Hi Ginny, that frame that is a chalk board, was a mirror that I bought for $3 at a yard sale. I took the frame out, cut a piece of smooth plywood the same size as the mirror and gave it about five coats of chalkboard paint. Then I just put it into the frame where the mirror had been. Oh, it was gold before I painted it white. I love taking cheap yard sale finds and decorating my home with them . . . it works great on our budget too, LOL. Have a great week and thanks so much for stopping by.

    1. Hi Roxie, when I bought that old fridge the owner before me had painted it pink, so I painted it this vintage green. I'm sure it started out white. It gets used so much in the summer when you need room for extra drinks, watermelon and big bowls of potato salad :) I love summer :)

    1. Hi JoAnn,
during the winter months that porch gets stacked up with boxes and all things that we don't want store outside. It can look pretty messy and cluttered, but it sure is nice during the spring, summer and fall :)

  10. I sure do love your back porch!! Everything about it is so quaint or (marked by cleaverness, ingenuity, or refinement, different in character or appearance, pleaseingly old-fashioned) When quaint popped into my head, had to look it up to make sure I was using the right word.......sure enough, I was. If you didn't live so far from Wisconsin I'd come visit.....I like your style girl!!!

    1. It is always a good feeling when another woman compliments your home, thank you. It's just a little ranch house built in the 1950's, but to us it's our cozy haven from the world :)

    1. Hi Diana, We have put many hours into that boat, but now it's almost done. After work tonight Steve was installing new sheets and halyards (working ropes). It has been sitting for so many years that all the ropes were rotten. There are a lot of details . . . and a bit of a money pit, but when we are finished she'll be ready to sail for many years to come. Thanks for visiting. I always enjoy seeing your lovely face :)

    1. Hi Susan, I wasn't sure what kind of reaction my up-side-down mirror stand would get . . . it was just one of those light blub going off moments. I always know if I don't like it, I can take it apart and start over, no problem, but this little idea works for me :) It's usually, but then I'm a little bit unusual, too.

  23. Hi Connie, your fluffing has turned out beautiful. What a warm and welcome place! Oh my sweetie, I am drooling over the vintage fridge! I would have loved one like that for my farmhouse basement kitchen. Instead they are delivering a new one tomorrow. Love the mirror and what you did with the base. I put an old dresser in our basement bath that has a mirror on a base like that. Of course, I had to use it the right way. lol!

    1. Hi Jann, It took me a while to find that old fridge, but it works great and looks good on the back porch.
The down size to having a vintage fridge is that it has to be defrosted. It's not my favorite job, but because it's outside, I don't have to worry so much about the mess I make :)
