A Christmas Quilt

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words.
So, this post is mostly pictures.

When you are creating for those you love . . .
your time is well spent :)

I am enjoying a very busy week,
filled with so much creative fun.

These fabrics are for a quilt,
there are three more patterns, but they are in the wash.
When you're using reds, it is very important to pre-wash :)

The embroidery work on this quilt
is from designs that I downloaded from

http://www.embroiderydesigns.com/

If you do machine embroidery,
I suggest that you visit their amazing site.

As if my week couldn't be any more fun . . .
this book arrived in the mail.
It includes a CD with 100 redwork designs . . .
"Oh, My"

This also arrived . . .I can't wait to dive into it.

And this . . .
I really like this magazine because it connects me with my Indiana roots :)

Christmas is in the air around here this week.
Not just with gift making but also with our weather.
Yesterday we had to turn the furnace on for the first time since early spring.

Thanks for visiting
Here's wishing you all a very lovely week.

    1. Hi Diana, I don't really like thinking too much about Christmas before Thanksgiving, but when you are making your gifts, you have to get a head start :)

  7. Hi Connie....looks to me your are going to be pretty busy in the next month or so. I will have to pick up a copy of Cloth, Paper, Scissors in the next week. I see at the bottom ideas for adding layers to your photos....that might be a "must try" project. Although right now I have so many card projects brewing in my mind, don't know which way to go....guess that is a good thing.

    1. Hi Louise, I imagine that you make all of your Christmas cards, so that is going to keep you on your toes for the next month or so. It is a wonderful warm feeling when a handmade card arrives in the mailbox . . . you will be spreading love with every card :)

Looks like you have some really fun books there too.
I have always loved redwork. Simple and charming.
A friend of mine entered a blackwork piece in an art show. That was the first time I had ever seen blackwork..... quite pretty too.

    Warm wishes..

    1. Hi Karen, I spent last night going through the book and I'm using two of the designs from it in my quilt. The little cowboy and the cowboy hat . . . they compliment all the horses, don't you think? Thanks for visiting and have a lovely day.

    1. Hi Roxie, Thanks for the encouragement, I'm making this quilt for a little girl who loves horses, but when I purchased the embroidery patterns I was thinking how they will work for both boy and girl. I think that blues would be pretty, too. I get lost in Midwest magazine . . . it conjures up daydreams of childhood and Indiana :)

    1. Hi Cindy, she is a little sweetheart with a new love for horses, so I'm hoping that she will be thrilled and that it turns out nice. As for my Indiana roots . . . you can take the girl out of Indiana, but you can't take Indiana out of her heart :)

  18. It looks like you're on your way to beautiful red quilt! It sounds like we have some things in common. I subscribe to Cloth Paper Scissors too, and I love it! I also have two sisters that live in Mt. Vernon, Indiana and my hubby is from Evansville. We've spent lots of time up there, and still go on a regular basis. I love the pretty countryside! Where did you live?
    Have a quiltabulous day!

    1. Hi Donna, the last time that I was in Indiana was about ten years ago, but it is always in my heart. I was born in South Bend and spent most of my childhood in Michigan City :) I have a lot of relatives in the Greencastle area, this is where my grandma lived.

  19. I adore that red material and the horses are lovely. I am really in to red at the moment and have decided that my winter colours for the snug will be red, not sure about summer yet but I am thinking maybe turquoise. Enjoy yourself with your Christmas preparations xxx

I am so afraid everything is going to go online and we will not have the pleasure of curling up with a magazine some day!

    1. I am having a lot of fun with it . . . I do have to confess that yesterday I worked on it from 9 A.M. until 8 P.M. with nothing but a lunch break. I've got it pieced and had the back and batting on based together before I quit . . . next will be the actual quilting :)
