Wheat Harvest

We hopped in the pick-up and drove  about 15 miles
out of town a couple of days ago.

It was a short trip,
but I was so glad that I had my camera with me.
Wheat harvest was coming to a close.
Most of the farms were finished harvesting,
but I got a few photos.
A pile of pure gold.
Our area is desert and irrigated farmland.
Washington's three main crops are,
Apples, Potatoes and Wheat.
Many of my photos were taken while driving,
so they are not the best,
but I thought you might like to see the wheat fields.
See the two farms in the distances.
I wish that I would have thought of wheat harvest sooner,
I could have driven out and got some shots of farmers at work.
This does give you a little idea . . .
of just how beautiful the golden wheat fields are,
especially against the wide open blue sky.
It's a magnificent sight :)

Something that I noticed while doing this post
was the sky in these photos.
The two shots of the wheat pile and the bins
 were taken driving north
and the other shots were going down the same road,
only returning and driving south.
They were taken within 30 minutes of each other.
What a huge difference in the lighting and the way it affected the sky in these photos.

That's pretty amazing to me :)
Good photos are not so much about the camera you use,
but all about the lighting.

Have you noticed this with your photos?

Have a sweet day!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  1. Thanks for sharing your photos. That last one was especially beautiful! Yes I have found that lighting makes all the difference! I see now why you see professional photographers using all those lights.

    1. Good Morning Rebecca, have you ever heard of "Sweet Light" ? It is the light that you get 1/2 hour after sunrise and 1/2 hour before sunset. It is a magical time of day for taking outdoor photography. We can not plan all of our photos at this time, but watch the difference when you have a chance to use this amazing light :) We all know how beautiful a sunrise and a sunset are, but the light that they give the world is miraculous, too.

  2. Beautiful shots of the wheat field. I totally agree about lighting being more important than what kind of camera you're using

  6. The shots with the wheat and sky look beautiful. Your right the light makes a massive difference. We've had sun here for a few weeks and my photos have been lovely. The ones I took yesterday are sad looking due to the clouds and rain. Thanks for sharing your ride out. Have a lovely weekend.

    1. Hi Sara, it was a short little drive but it was nice to get away from the house other than shopping. We have been so busy since spring that most of my driving is back and forth from Home Depot, LOL. The other day I told the clerk at Home Depot that I was a little disappointed in them when I drove into their parking lot. He looked very concerned. Then I told him that as many trips as I had made to their store this year, that I really expected by now to have my own private parking spot, LOL. Things are getting done and we have check many "To-Dos" from our list :)

    2. Hi Connie, having moved to a different town in January, I know exactly what you are talking about! Thank goodness for Home Depot, and a few other stores out there. I've enjoyed what you have shared with us about how you are sprucing up your new place. You do live in beautiful country . . . it's very different from the crowded places down here. Really, I think every place has its delights and beauties. There's something special though, about your area. I drove through it with my sister a few autumns ago and so enjoyed all the fall color among the apple orchards, etc, and those long views across empty fields.

    3. When I first moved to this part of the country I was amazed at the sky . . . how much of it there was :) One day my niece said to me, "Aunt Connie, you are always talking about how big our sky is; isn't it the same size everywhere?" Yes, it is, but when you live in areas where there are many trees, you can only see small portions of it. We are about 150 miles from Mount Rainer, but on a clear day, you can see it. I grew up in Indiana with lush trees, and amazing Autumn color, I do miss that here in the desert.

  9. Thank you for the tour of the wheat fields - I don't think I've ever seen one! Here in the Midwest (IL), we have tons of corn fields. Those wheat fields sure are beautiful...the stalks waving in the breeze with the blue sky....

  10. My goodness, isn't it flat where you live? Lovely open spaces, and all that wonderful wheat growing. It is flat in the east of the UK, with big fields (probably not as big as yours lol!) but here in the south west it is very hilly. We have one little tiny road that goes up from the sea, that is so steep that the car tyres always slip! Scares me half to death as I think we are going to slip back and end up in the sea!
