Garden Walk About

We have had such a hot summer . . .
that the vines and the weeds are taking over.
Our Old Geezer Swimming Hole
is surrounded by jungle.
Look at the sunflowers ,
they are higher than the well house.
The weeds behind the stock tank
are there because . . .
these are hiding in them :)
That watermelon is about 20 inches long
&
qualifies me to be called
A Farm Girl
(something I've always wanted to be)
Here you can see the sunflowers
peeking over the well house.
They are still growing and haven't
bloomed yet :)
On the fence are the morning glories
that I planted last spring.
 We have tomatoes.
 Corn
Pumpkins

 Cantaloupe

 More watermelon . . .
and peppers, zucinnii and cucumbers.
Yes, I am a farm girl!

We have flowers . . .

and bees for pollinating.

Not bad for a beginner . . .
Right?

I've been grocery shopping from the garden
and loving the freshness and the savings.

Keep Smiling!
 Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

P.S. Do you need to have animals
to be called a farm girl?

 Okay :)

  2. Nice garden walk and lovely vegies and fruit. That old geezer swimming hole looks very inviting and probably felt good when the temps hit 90-100 degrees. Yes, you are a Farm Girl.....not bad farming, have you started to do some canning yet??

    1. I bought a pressure canner last week. We bought a round steak to try it out on our stove and it messed up the finish on the glass top, just a little bit, but enough that I'm afraid to use it again. Any suggestions?

I laughed and said, "we don't need it." Having a garden is so nice :)

  9. Yes you are definitely a farm girl! Your garden looks lovely and so much fresh produce. Don't worry about the weeds, they are good for the wildlife and anyway, a weed is only a flower in the wrong place! Xxxx

    1. Oh, I love that . . . most of your weeds are not that much of a problem, except for "goat heads" . . . they are horrible and produce these hard stickers that stick to the bottom of your shoes and can get tracked into the house if you are not careful. I'm doing my best to keep them down but haven't found a way to kill them other than pulling them up by the roots. I really have to watch Butchy's feet after he's been out for a while.

    1. Good Morning Debby, thanks so much for stopping by to visit. I truly appreciate your encouraging words. Until last summer I never had a place to grow a real garden and I am so excited about being able to grocery shop in my backyard. It has been fun watching seedlings grow and produce food. In all the heat that we have had this summer, it hasn't always been easy getting out there pulling weeding, hoeing and watering, but the satisfaction from seeing the results is amazing :)

    1. Hi Nancy, it is great to hear from you. It has been hard work, but mostly because of the heat this summer. I enjoy being outside but our temperatures have not been pleasant. Boy, when I was young the heat never bothered me, but that is a thing of the past . . . I am looking forward to some cooler days. We are still having weather in the med and high 90's. I do hope that you and your hubby are feeling better.

  15. Congratulations on earning the title Farmer! I have true farmer relatives and they tell me that gardening in any quantity qualifies as farming so I bought one of their T-shirts and am considering myself one too : ) Still praying for that rain for us both. We did get one day of thunder and lightening with rain that sparked fires in the Eastern half of our state and just yesterday three firefighters lost their lives fighting one on that side of the mountains. So sad for their families and those that have lost property, homes and animals as well.

    1. Hi Mindy, it has been terrible. We live about seventy miles south of the fires and our air is smokey . . . I can not imagine how bad it is to breath around the Wenatchee area. My husband was just saying that the news just said that this year has been the hottest July (averaging the temperatures all over the world . . . from North Pole to South Pole) on record from when they have started keeping records. Hopefully next year will be better. September in coming and hopefully it will bring rain :)

    1. I am enjoying it and feeling truly blessed . . . it has been hard work, but I believe that get outside working in the fresh air is good for the soul and the body :) A little sweat ( this year a lot of sweat, with our hot temperatures) is nothing that a good hot shower does take care of.

  17. Sweet Connie, I have to say I'm envious of your beautiful gardens...vegetables, fruit and flowers!!! When I saw those tomatoes and corn, my mouth watered.....and of course those melons!!! I didn't put in a garden this year or last (miss it terribly) but Lord willing next year? I can envision myself taking a little walk around your sweet homestead and viewing all the precious things of Gods creations and all the lovely things you have created. Maybe one of these days, we can sit on your porch together and have lemonade and talk about the things we love....Blessings~~~Roxie

    1. Dear Sweet Roxie, through the powers of the internet and our kindred spirits we kind of did just sit on the porch together and talk of all the blessing of our Lord. He has been so sweet to us. This new home of ours has been a blessing from the get go and the the garden and shops and everything else has been frosting on the cake. Have a wonderful weekend :)

    1. Hi Lorrie, eating fresh from the garden is the best. I think that we all can agree that a garden fresh tomato is like taking a bite out of summer . . . nothing comes close to the flavor :) I am loving my new country life.
