Pumpkin Dishtowel and Rangehood

Don't you just love
Blogging Give-A-Ways :)
I won this lovely dishtowel from:
Kimberley at Seaside Ave.
and just in time for Thanksgiving.
If you haven't visited her blog, please do.

Last week I showed you my Kitchen Up-Date.
New sink, faucet, black-splash and counter-tops.

This weekend we installed the range-hood :)

I bought this a year and a half ago . . .
and it has been setting in the well house,
still in the box :)
Those of you that know us . . .
know how busy we have been . . .
this was on the list but not a priority.

I love that it has two lights
and a two speed exhaust fan.

I have been notorious for setting off
the smoke alarm for the past year and a half
that we have lived here, LOL
So much, that i've had a clip-on fan
setting in the kitchen window.
The trouble was that the smoke alarm was
between the window and the stove, LOL.

Now our kitchen is complete
except for a little bit of trim and baseboard under the sink.
It feels so good to have it finished.
Maybe you noticed  . . . no dishwasher.
I'm one of those rare birds
that enjoys washing dishes.

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  1. Connie, Love your towel. Your new kitchen is nice. At my mom's house...it used to be when the smoke alarm went off it was time to eat. LOL. I like those glass handles. You really brightened the kitchen up with your newer colors. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. Hi Susie, I'm trying to keep as much of a vintage style as possible and still have modern functionality :)
It is so nice not hearing the smoke alarm every-time I cook :)

  2. The tea towel is gorgeous - a lovely win, Connie. Your kitchen looks great too - the colours you are using are nice and fresh.

    1. Hi Raewyn, it is funny because my ideal kitchen would be all white, but I tried these retro colors to match the vintage cabinets and add vintage charm. I like them . . . bright and happy is hard to argue with, but one day will paint everything white :) Love my new tea towel :)

  3. Connie, your kitchen is so nice and I love that huge oven! I used to set off the smoke alarm now and then and sadly, it wasn't by the stove! Hey, my new sink picture is on The House on Hilltop Farm blog. You can easily get to it by clicking the picture of the blue house on my sidebar that says to click to see our construction story. Congratulations on winning the towel. I still use the towel I won on your blog for decoration!

    1. Hi Cindy, I had forgotten that you won one of my dish towels; I'm happy that you like it and still use it. I'll be visiting your construction blog . . . I want to see the sink. Thanks for stopping by . . . have a happy day :)

  4. My question is.. did you try the recipe on the towel? I love how your kitchen turned out! What a great stove and hood! Enjoy cooking in that kitchen. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

    1. When we moved from the old house I bought my stove and refrigerator with me, but having an exhaust fan is a luxury that I have been missing. I've been using a stair-rail piece of wood to reach the smoke alarm and turn it off each time I set it off. Now I'll have to think up a craft to use the turned stair-rail, LOL.
No I haven't tried the recipe . . . this low carb diet is cutting into my sweets :)

  5. Hi! Your new hood and stove are so nice. Lovely towel too. Someone gave me a fall towel that hangs over the stove door handle. Lucky me. Not homade though like yours! Very nice kitchen! Nancy

    1. Hi Nancy, well the stove came with us from the old house it is about 15 years old . . . I sure am enjoying having the range hood and not setting off the smoke alarm anymore :) It was getting to be a home-hold joke around here, LOL.

  9. Hi Connie...as you may know, I have recently moved again. I have a separate blog for "Bungalow Living with Meggie". It is linked by my other blog.....I just had to tell you, I'm cooking Thanksgiving without a range hood. Hope I don't set off a smoke alarm ! It may be Christmas before I have mine installed...just laughing about it.

    1. My smoke alarm is over the door, so I have this pretty piece of wood ( a turned stair-rail) I have been using it to reach the smoke alarm to turn it off. I'm a shorty. You might want to have something like that handy, LOL. Happy Early Thanksgiving :)

    1. Hi Ann, I haven't always enjoyed doing dishes, but since my hand injury and the arthritis that has set up in my hands, it is like a hot bath therapy session. The hot water feels wonderful and the view out the window is pretty nice too :)

    1. Hi Vicky, it was nice after we moved in and just added paint and new knobs to the cabinets, but as time went by the faucet started leaking and the smoke alarm was going off all the time. Oh, and I had three different colors of counter-tops, too, LOL. I love it now; I think it is pretty and I have no leaks and no music from the smoke alarm . . . it's heavenly :) Kimberley's blog is lovely and she is a sweet blogging sister. I do hope that this shout-out can cause more sisters to visit her blog. Have a wonderful day . . . I am thinking that you just might have the day off today.

  14. That's such a lovely towel. Congrats on getting the range hood installed. Sometimes these things just take a little time. I do have a dishwasher, but I'm convinced that washing dishes by hand gets them cleaner more consistently. Your kitchen is looking so friendly and warm.

    1. Hi Lorrie, when we bought this home we knew that there would be a lot of work to be done. The list seemed endless, but one by one with priorities at the top we have managed to get almost everything done. I still have some light fixtures in boxes in the closets, and I would like to install a utility sink in the mud room. A nice place to give Butchy a bath without bending over the tub to do it :) Like you said it all takes time :)

  15. Connie, you two kids are animals.....you work soooo hard! What a wonderful kitchen update, just amazing, so light and bright. Oh I love the deep huge sink and the new faucet I am sure you love being in your kitchen. Now, I think you have earned yourself a good sit on your front porch.

  16. What a cute towel. This has solved the mystery of Kimberly for me! She was leaving me sweet comments and I couldn't figure out who she was...I came here and THERE is a link to her. God works in small and mysterious ways sometimes!

  17. Hi Connie,
Thank you so much for mentioning me here, you are so, so sweet my friend! I am glad that your tea towel arrived before Thanksgiving, you just never know with snail mail these days! ;)
And Connie your kitchen redo is so pretty, I love it all! Your oven is a cooks dream, is it electric or induction? I have had such a hard time getting used to gas here in Illinois, we only ever had electric in Canada. It has taken me awhile to get used to.
I love the pops of red in your kitchen.
I have a dishwasher but I still seem to wash a lot of things by hand, I like washing dishes too.
That was funny about the smoke alarm, I would so blame it on the placement to, lol!
Have a wonderful rest of your week!

    1. Hi Kimberley, my range is electric . . . the largest oven is convection and the smaller oven is standard electric. When I have company and a lot to cook, it's nice being able to cook at different temperatures and have room for more food. We won't be cooking Thanksgiving dinner here, we are having dinner at my husbands nephew's this year, but we do pot-luck so I'll still be using those ovens for something :)

  21. That looks great, well lit and so glad you don't have to use a fan anymore. We could really use a new one but when something is still working I hate to get a new one. I wash a lot of stuff by hand that I don't want in the dishwasher but I do have one, it comes in handy when we have guest and I don't want to be working so much but enjoying them :)

    1. I truly understand the guest thing . . . it is nice to not have a mess in the kitchen when you have company. I try to get my guests to just let me leave them, but some just want to pitch in and get them done. I also find that washing dishes together is a fun exchange of conversation and laughs :)

  22. Cute dishtowel! Love your range hood - sleek and modern. Ours is the original of the house...umm, 27+ years old! Our entire kitchen needs re-doing. We're stuck in a 1980 time warp. ;-) I hate doing dishes...that's one appliance I have to have!
