Repurposed Jeans into Aprons

Old Jeans & Bib Overalls.
Stencils & Fabric Paint.

Lace & A Sewing Machine.

Hexies From My Stash.

This was an old pair of my favorite bibs.
I used to wear them to garden in
and then to paint in.

Now they are too small . . .
but I needed a painting apron and
they were perfect for this project.

As you can tell this used to be
the back of a pair of jeans.

Like I've said in my last two posts . . .
Don't throw away those old jeans.

Re-purpose them instead.

    1. I love those old bibs, but I was twenty pounds lighter when I wore them. This way I can still enjoy them and I needed a paint apron away :)

  3. Connie, this is so adorable! I used to own a sewing machine and was somewhat handy with it, but I lost interest at the time and sold it. I am wanting to invest in another one after looking at some of your projects and see if I still have it in me!

    1. I would be lost without a sewing machine. When Steve and I were first married he wanted to buy me a new machine . . . so I looked around and found an old 1950's Viking zig-zag . . . I think I paid $125 (1976) for it. He couldn't believe that I bought a secondhand machine, but that machine has proven to be a treasure. Then about twenty years ago I bought a new lower end viking . . . around $500 and gave my daughter the old one. I tried later to trade her the new one back for the old one, but no dice. She loves that machine! The machines that I use now are Brother and Brother makes a great machine. I am very pleased with them and they don't break the bank. Mine were both under $500, but you can find very nice ones for half that. Do a little research before you buy. Researching products is so easy, now that computers have costumers writing in reviews. Remember don't throw away any old jeans, LOL.

  4. You are a genius! They are both adorable. I have a pair of jeans that is nearing the end of it's life, so I'll keep this in mind.

    1. They make great aprons and you can get two aprons from one pair of jeans. I have the front of this pair setting on the counter ready to turn into another apron. You'll probably see it in a future post :)

  5. What cute ideas! I love the half apron and may be trying that myself. I miss the days when everyone wore aprons around the house.

    1. Hi Betsy, have you heard of our blizzard. We now have two foot drifts and three feet piled up snow from shoveling and we haven't even shoveled yesterdays snow yet. Yesterday it snowed all day and then last night we had frozen rain. It is just too icy out there to take the chance. After you telling me how you and your husband both fell . . . it's scary weather.
I find that when I wear pants without pockets I have no place for my phone . . . aprons are great for that:) The more you wear them the more you will find them to be indispensable. I wear them for cooking all the time. I hope you try this the next time you think about throwing out a pair of jeans :)
Stay warm my friend . . . I do hope that you are healing from your fall.

    1. Re-purposing old jeans is a favorite thing to do, for me . . . are you going to try it?

    2. Hmmmm...I will give that some thought, Connie. My daughter once took a pair of her husband's old corduroy pants and made a teddy bear. I'll let you know (and show you pics) if I come up with something I could make with some old jeans. :-)

  8. Recently I tried on a pair of jeans at a thrift store. They had a lot of embroidery and even "jewels" attached ( it looked as if they came from the factory decorated like that). I grinned to myself thinking how I'd embarrass my kids if I ever wore such. But if I could make creations like you do that pair of jeans would certainly have come home with me.
I especially like that first apron, the one with the lace along the bottom. So cute.

  13. Hi Connie, I love the jean aprons. I bought one years ago and think it is so cute but it is only a half apron. I am always splattering something on my T=shirts when cooking unless I have a full apron on so need to make a bib one! Need to take time out to go to Good Will!

    1. Hi Nancy, well, as soon as you have everything set up in your new craft-room, you will have to give this a try. We got rain on top of our snow drifts and it is icy and slick outside. I'm going to try getting to the shed today and get my grow lights. If I take a few steps and it feels too scary . . . it with wait. This is a winter to put down in our record books. burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

  14. Great ideas with the old jeans.
By the time I throw out my old jeans they are thread bare with lots of holes in them. : ) Probably not much good for anything.

    1. I don't know, but if you go into a high-end young people's shop, those old thread-bare jeans might sell for three or four time what you paid new for them, LOL.

  15. GASP! CUTE APRON!! I love it! I tell ya, I used to not like the color red at all, and now I LOVE IT! And it looks adorable with that apron. If you were around last year I would have given you about a dozen pair of jeans, instead of dropping them off at the Good Will. Don't hate. I probably have that many more. I reckon' I need to repurpose...as soon as I use up my stash of yarn and material and roving.

    1. Hi Connie, I use the back and the front . . . why not, you can get two aprons from one pair of jeans. I have the front of this pair painted differently, I just haven't started an apron yet. I'll save it for another post:) Thanks so much for stopping by . . . I appreciate your blogging friendship :)

  20. Just darling Connie! After looking at all the Pinterest ideas on recyling jeans, I decided to make myself a large carry-all bag.. I didn't use jeans but used an old (new.. I never wore it!) western type skirt that I bought to dance in (years ago when I was much thinner).....and made the skirt into a neat big bag to carry my yarn in or shoes or my boots, etc. I love it.. and going to post it on my blog soon. That skirt has sat around in my stash as I knew I could make "something" from it.. as was/is brand new. It had a matching vest which I sold somewhere along the way.. darn.. I could have repurposed it too! I do LOVE your paint apron and the other with the red ruffle. Stay warm! Marilyn

    1. Hi Jann, the last two times that I tried to share on SYC I got an error. Maybe you could email me a step by step, because I am apparently doing something wrong. I did it once and it worked, so I'm beside myself . . . I'm far from being a computer wiz . . . I'm afraid my wiz has fizzle out, LOL. I am delighted that you like them and want me to share our lovely link party.
