First Snow Of The Season

Saturday Mess . . .

No not the snow, but the septic tank :(
Have you ever had to call a plumber on a Saturday.
Fair warning, they double their price,
but what are you going to do, right?

There was a blockage between the house
and the septic.
We couldn't flush, shower, do dishes
or even wash clothes.
Anyway, I ran to town while Steve waited for the plumber.
When I returned he was just arriving.
I unloaded the car and for the first time
in ages, forgot to park it in the garage.

So, of course it snowed, LOL

This was the view out the bedroom window
Sunday morning :)
Isn't it funny, we don't notice the screen,
but the camera sure does, LOL.

Our first snow of the season.
It's pretty, but it's cold :)

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  1. I can't help but think winter is arriving much too soon, but there is always something special about that first snow of the season. We only had cold rain and sleet here. I was glad to see the sun come back out today. Here's hoping your plumbing worries are over.

    1. I hope that they are over too, at least for a long while. I tell you, if you have a son or daughter wanting a career where they make good money . . . tell them to go into the plumping business. They will make as much as a doctor or lawyer and they won't have to go to school near as long to do it, LOL.

  2. Sorry about the septic problems. That’s never fun, no matter when it happens. The first snow is pretty... we had our first big one this weekend too. It’s much too early though. I’m not ready for this. :-)
    Blessings always, Betsy

    1. I'm not ready either, but what can we do about it, LOL. I would have loved to enjoy a bit more Autumn color :) There is a beauty in all seasons . . . and this is the finial straw to having all the garden work done . . . more time of sewing :)

  3. Winter seems to be arriving very early this year. Plumbing woes are dreadful. Hope your repair lasts a long time.

    1. Hi Lorrie, I hope they do too. We were just getting dressed to leave on a trip to Yakima when it happened. When it's a Saturday and nothing works in the house . . . and we have a one bath home, of course when it affects every drain in the house that does matter much. We had no choice . . . Plumbing does not sound like a glamorous career, but they sure do make good money, LOL.

Too bad about the plumbing problem but it sounds like you got that sorted out.

    1. Yes we did, and it felt very good to have everything working again. Plumbing is one of those things we can easiest forget about and take for granted . . . big mistake . . . indoor plumbing that is working in a perfectly normal way is a true blessing :) Ask anyone that doesn't have it, LOL.

I love the photo of the bird houses covered with snow!

    1. Hi Judy, those birdhouses just make me smile . . . in the winter they look like cozy havens there to weather the season, then in the Spring they become nesting grounds. There is an outdoor water faucet just under them . . . we needed something showy there to prevent us or anyone else from backing into it. That would be another major plumbing problem, LOL. The bird houses work great there to protect the faucet.

Have you ever noticed how the snow makes everything quiet?

    1. It certainly does . . . people and animals stay inside more in the cold weather. That could be a lot of the noise that we aren't hearing. It's like the world goes into hibernation mode :)

    1. We waited about two and an half hours for him to get here, then it took him about thirty minutes to fix it, at a sum of $400. Tell your granddaughters that if they want a rich husband start dating plumbers, LOL.

  8. Connie, I pray the plumber did his job quickly and right. I always there's not much you can do when you need help. Now girl, I do not want to have any snow here yet..I think Jan. is a good time for snow.LOL. It's to be in the 20's here Thursday, yikes. That is too dang close to being full blown winter. Blessings and warm hugs, xoxo, Susie

    1. Hi Susie, our weather is suppose to get back in the 40's later this week, so if it doesn't snow again, we just might loose all of this. I would have been perfectly happy with a longer season of Autumn color, LOL. Thanks for the sweet visit :)

  9. Plumbing problems are the worst. I hope your the issues are resolved. It seems like these things always happen on the weekend or after hours but I suppose there's never a good time. Enjoy the weather. The first snowfall is always fun.

    1. This problem truly came at a bad time, we were in the process of getting dressed to travel two hours to our greatgranddaughter's first birthday party when it happened. It was something that we were truly looking forward too. By the time the plumber left and we got the mess cleaned up, the party would have been half over and we would still have had that long drive to get there. The Word says that, all things happen for good to those that love Christ Jesus . . . so we have to believe that this will turn out for good, too. After all it is in the category of "All Things". Amen :)

  10. Hi Connie, Not a good time to have plumbing problems! Snow is beautiful! We have not had any yet but it is cold!! I am thankful we have a garage to put the car in and hopefully Bob will remember to do so as he drives most often than I. Coco is at the groom
ers and I think I will take her sweater to put on her when we pick her up. I am not real fussy about putting the sweater on an she does okay but thought maybe right after grooming it might be a good idea. With snow you will have lots of creative ideas to share I bet. Looking forward to your next post! Take care! Nancy

Yes, the snow looks so pretty but all I can think about is the cold. Stay warm and cozy!

    1. Hi Karen, it has not been that cold as far as the temperature, but yesterday the wind was blowing from the north and that is when it chills me to the bone. I'm blessed with a warm home and lots of warm clothes to bundle up in. I used to hate seeing winter weather, but now I call it the Quilting Season and enjoy it to the fullest:) Isn't it funny how that turns things around. Now I actually look forward to it, LOL

The toilet, the sinks and the washing machine drains where all coming up in the bathtub. Not Good! We just feel blessed that we could get a plumber on Saturday even if they do double their price :)

    1. I realize that rain can be a mess especially when it involves mud. We just don't get that much around here . . . mud is only cause from forgetting to turn and outside faucet off for many hours.

  22. Your snow is gorgeous, and so is your home! I love the photos! That's awful about the septic tank...and the double rates. This always seems to happen to us on holiday weekends, but with the pets. One pet or another will get sick, worrying us to bits because we know all the vets are closed and the only one is a 2 hour drive away, an "emergency" vet that nobody can afford anyway! So far we've been lucky this year, knock on wood!!!

    1. We are very fortunate when it comes to our dog, because our vet is our niece. She has never said anything about it, bit I am sure that she has used her influence to help us out. She did a major surgery for us once when our little guy was almost bit in half by a neighbors dog. It was touch and go and she didn't know if Butchy would make it or not, but he did fine. I'm almost certain that she only charge us for the costs to the vet and wavered her surgery fee. Because it was about a third what we expected.

      Delete
    2. That is very good of her. You're so lucky to have her! Finding a good vet is like finding a good mechanic! :)

I'm sorry to hear about Butchy though, that must have been horrible. I'm so protective of the pack, but breaking up a dog fight isn't easy or safe at time. I'm always afraid of loose dogs around here.

  23. Well I guess it was expected! It's snowing a little here today for the first time, but not sticking thank goodness. I'm not ready for it yet. Having to leave tomorrow to head south about 70 miles, to a higher elevation! ugh... may hit some on the one pass that is 4400 feet. Darn. It IS pretty but I can do without it! Sorry about your septic system... why does it always seem to happen on a weekend or in bad weather? I have to remember to take my snow boots with me! hee hee..... take care, stay warm, do lots of sewing and enjoy the week! I'm taking all my craft stuff with me, and sewing machine. And then.... since I"ll be in a snug log cabin with a fireplace, I may just "check out" for awhile and do nothing but eat and watch TV! Hugs.. Marilyn

    1. Our weather is never the same around here. We have had years with nothing but flurrys and we have had years with snow on the ground from the end of October to the end of March. It's very unpredictable. Don't you just hate plumbing problems? They came just steal the sunshine from our day, LOL.

  26. Oh wow! It's so hard to believe other parts of the country are getting snow when we are still having temps in the 80's still! It has been nicer overall recently though. 27. Chicago had snow today (just enough to be a nuisance), but out here in the far suburbs, we only had a few flakes in the air. And that's fine with me. :-) So sorry to hear you're having septic problems. I hope everything is fixed now. We have a private well, but not septic. I don't even like having a well, so glad we don't have both. Too many problems that can go wrong with both and always very expensive. I would love to live in the country but then you have to deal with well and septic. Too bad we can't have the best of both worlds!

    1. I really should not complain because we actually save an average of $50 a month or more from what we were paying for city water and sewer in our other house. When I think about that, I guess paying a plumber once every few years isn't as bad as I thought it was :) Still it was certainly a mess!
