Warm & Cozy

Some of you may remember the flannel quilt
that I made for Steve at Christmas,
well it is so warm and cozy that I decided
I needed to make one for myself as well.

This is the one I made for him . . .

This shirt flannel is so warm.

So this is mine . . .
A bit more feminine, but still
very warm and cozy, and perfect
for winter weather.

The Front

 I used the quilt-as-you-go
method with 12 inch squares,
so it went together very
fast and easy :)

The Back

My fingers have been flying this month.

I have two more quilts to show you.
One that I finished today . . .
and one that is over half way done:)

Thank you all for visiting my
little blog and for being
so sweet and encouraging with
your comments.
I love and appreciate all of you.

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  3. I love flannel. I thought about just putting a boarder around a peice of flannel for a thin and light lap blanket. Your quilts are beautiful.

    1. Hi Lisa, thanks for popping in to say hi . . . I used two layers of flannel and a thin batting in the center. This would probably too warm if you lived in a mild winter climate, but for here in the Northwest, it feel very nice on a cold winter day)

  4. Hi Connie, Love your quilt. You come up with the most interesting designs! Some day I will have to figure out the quilt as you go method. My quilter friend is going to learn so I am hoping she will show me. Sometimes that is easier learning for me. Did you find all that flannel in the thrift store flannel shirts? Looking forward to your post with your other quilts too. Have a great week-end! Nancy

    1. I have many bloggers that have got the idea that I recycle my flannel, if Steve wore flannel shirts in the winter I probably would, but instead I purchase my fabric either on line or in town at Joannes or WalMart. Always pre-wash, but then I pre-wash everything, even when I buy high quality fabrics. Well, not everything, not layer cakes and jellyrolls:)

  5. Beautiful quilt. I tried to do the quilt as you go method once, but got confused and gave up. I finally donated all the squares to the Goodwill hoping they could find a good home! Blessings always, Betsy

    1. Hi Betsy, there are many different methods of quilt as you go. I have found a very simple video on You Tube. I'm going to try and find it again to email to Nancy above, if I find it I will email you a link to it too. Thanks so very much for being such a sweet and devoted blogging sister. It's so nice to see familiar faces pop up in my comments . . . it's like old friends popping over for coffee:)

    1. I ordered both of those floral fabrics on line thinking that they would go well together. Then I didn't like how they looked side by side and decided to use one on the front and one on the back, so they wouldn't compete with each other:) I wanted my quilt to be more girly than Steve's, LOL

  7. Connie it would be wonderful if you were to show us how to do this method of quilting. Such a wonderful creation, love the fabric choices, so perfect for the time of year.

    1. Hi Sweetie, I discovered this "Quilt As You Go" method on Your Tube. I'm going to try and find it again to email to Nancy and Betsy above, if I find it I will email you a link to it too. There are many different methods for this, but this one works very well and makes doing the whole quilt on the machine very easy and without a lot of bulk under your machine.

    1. I have only been quilting for 4 or 5 years and I was surprised at how quickly I fell in love with making them. Our daughter and granddaughters all live far away and we only see them about twice a year, so making them quilts is a nice way for me to wrap my arms around them with a warm hug . . . even when we are miles apart :)

  14. I love both quilts Connie! They definitely look very warm and cozy which I'm sure is quite handy up in your neck of the woods this time of year. We've actually been much colder here in North Texas than usual and I have loved it!

I need to learn how to do quilt as you go. I saw it a long time ago but I have forgotten. I'll have to look it up.

    Take care,

    2. Thank you Connie and for the pillow idea as well! I have used transfer paper but it's been many, many years ago.

Also, thank you for the Quilt As You Go link! I will check it out. My first quilt was a lap-size, rail fence quilt, and I've never really had a desire to make another one that size because I don't enjoy quilting big stuff. That said, with the Quilt As You Go method, I won't mind a bit. My grandson graduates in May and I want to make him a denim throw.

      Thanks again and take care!

  15. I have never thought of using flannel, but think it looks and sounds fantastic. I'm going to check and see if you've posted instructions on how to do a quilt as you go. Anything easy when it comes to quilting! I hope you will think about putting your full name on the tag with the date. I have two family quilts and sure love knowing which relatives made them. Sometimes it seems after 3 or 4 generations, who made the quilt gets a little fuzzy when there's several "Mothers" and "Ruths" in the family, but it's wonderful to have the connection.

    1. If my quilts last long enough to become family treasures I guess that would be a good idea. I'm always thinking that they will get lots of use and end up raggy from lots of love :)

  18. Great idea for a quick quilt, I have never tried the quilt as you go method. I have used Denim on a quilt too, it can be as warm as the flannel, I think because it is so heavy :) Just in case you have a lot of leftover denim :)

    1. Denim is on my list of quilts to try . . . I have so many dancing through my head . . . I may not live long enough to make them all, LOL. I received this very sweet package in my mailbox, I was so surprised. You're such a sweetheart. I will put everything to good use, thank you. I also appreciate the handmade card . . . I will display it in my Art Barn and think of you whenever I see it. Blogging sisters and the best :)

  21. I"m so late in responding to this post! Sorry! Time is getting away from me and I can't keep up! Love your flannel quilt, just for you! How does the quilt as you go technique work on flannel? Seems like it might be a little thick to work with? That may be the ONLY way I'll ever get a quilt done again! Your fingers are making me very jealous! hee hee...... The mom of my neighbor gave me a ton of her fabrics.. she's 84 and is quitting quilting because of her hands, but then...... she does it all by hand! No machine involved! Wow I said. She gave me alot of nice pastel flannels which would make a perfect cozy snuggler just for me! But when, she says will she actually make it? geesh........ love seeing all of your projects.. you're such an inspiration and I wish we could have a quilt day together once a week! Hugs.. Marilyn
