Pickled Pepper Mix



Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers;
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked;
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

Wait a minute . . .
Steve & Connie pickled these peppers! 


What do you get when you mix . . .
Jalapeno peppers from the garden.


 With . . .
Cheyenne peppers from the garden.


Fresh Carrots . . .
You guessed it right out of the garden
a matter of minutes before canning :)


We added Onions from the garden
and purchased garlic.

We just haven't been able to get the
growing of garlic down.
I am welcome to any suggestions on the matter. 


Fill them with our pickling brine recipe

  1. Wow! That is impressive. To think that almost everything is straight from your garden. You know exactly where it all came from. How fun! They are so colorful too. You could use them as decoration in your kitchen. **Smile***

    1. They are setting right up there on the shelves in the kitchen for all to see. I love my little farmhouse kitchen and our homemade can goods are my favorite decoration :)

  2. You are so sweet and pretty and talented. Is there ANYthing you can't do...??
    The bounty from your garden looks so good. I love peppers but I have a sissy girl mouth and don't want my food REAL hot...just warm and spicy.

  3. I am so impressed with your industry when it comes to canning. You even seem to enjoy it, while I think it is an awfully lot of hard work. Your canning, like everything you do, is so artistically done with beautiful results. I am sure you will enjoy your Pickled Pepper Mix when the snow flies (and that's not so long off).

    1. I do enjoy it, but you're right it is a lot of work. If our power should go off this winter, long enough for the house to get cold . . . we can warm up by eating these peppers, LOL.

  4. OH- I wish I could-but I just can't. My system won't tolerate peppers...sad, I know. lol That's okay- I'll just eat carrot cake instead. lol xo Diana

  5. Hi There, As much as I love peppers and onions (and eat them a lot)--I can't 'do' spicy anymore... But--my sons would LOVE your mix....

    1. Hot isn't for everyone. We found that out years ago when we had a dinner party and severed one of our very favorite meals, Chicken Gumbo. We love it, but our guests couldn't eat it. One bite was all that they wanted . . . way too hot for them. It was not our best menu decision, LOL Good thing that I had salad and crunchy bread to go with it . . . plus a yummy dessert. Sometimes we have to learn from our mistakes :)

  7. The jars look beautiful...but no hot peppers for me thank you. Did you use rubber gloves on your hands to make them? My first year canning I did peppers and used no rubber gloves...gosh my fingers stung for hours after cleaning and canning...never canned peppers again. BUT they sure are pretty on the shelf. Do the carrots get hot too?

    1. Hi Louise, this is our first time pickling peppers so I don't know how hot the carrots will get, but I would think that they do get pretty hot. I did not wear rubber gloves, but later that night while watching TV I rubbed my right eye and there was diffidently still some heat from those peppers on my fingers. LOL

    1. Hi John, this was our first time pickling peppers so I do hope that they will taste as good as they look. We do like hot spicy food around here. Learning to process our garden food for winter has been a new adventure that Steve and I both enjoy working on together. I just received a new cookbook from Amazon, The Amish Canning Cookbook. It's filled with recipes that make us want to try even more things next year. We might be late bloomers to gardening and canning, but we are having a ball. Eating better too :)

  10. Two of my sons have discovered pickling... beans in one case and peppers in the other. The first time I supervised the making brine now they're on their own. Makes me happy to see their enthusiasm. Your jars of mixed pickles are
    delightfully colourful. I can imagine how spicy and tasty they will be.

    1. We are new to canning and pickling, too. It has been something that my husband and I enjoying learning and doing together. That and it's wonderful to be able to make our garden feed us all winter, too :)

    1. We made some Dilly Beans this year and Steve absolutely loves them. We're really getting into this canning our own food thing. If you would have told me 5 years ago that we would be living in a little country home, growing a garden and canning our own food . . . I would have LOL . . . so loud that you, sweet friend, could have heard me in Pennsylvania :)

    1. I love it, too! Canning our food is new to us. We started three summers ago with only tomatoes and it has grown into a winter pantry filled with all kinds of goodies from the garden. It should save us a little as well as help us eat better and heather, now that we are retired and need to be fugal.

  13. What you have preserved looks delicious Connie. I like Sweet Mustard Pickles and also Pickled Gerkins...my Mum was good at preserving - lots of Marmalade and Mulberry Jams from our own Trees- just great on Toast with Butter. Have fun there. Cheers. KEV.

  15. I would LOVE those pickled peppers!! Connie, you do all the things that I talk about doing all summer, but never get around to it! Your canned goods are so pretty too. and I've had bunches of peppers that I didn't what to use them for. Just wait until next year, if the Lord is willing...I'm going to be more like you! :) (I hope so, anyway)

      I just purchased a new canning book that I love. It's called The Amish Canning Cookbook, I found it on Amazon and it takes so much of the scare out of canning. Lots of yummy recipes. We made applesauce yesterday and we are going back for more apples this weekend and make apple pie filling. Then I'm quitting for the season, before I do not have any space left for storing, LOL. I think we went a little bit crazy, but if you're going to do something you enjoy, why not something that will feed you all winter :)

  16. Hi Connie, Your pickled peppers looks so pretty! I don't like real hot things but if I get enough energy I would like to make dilly carrots again. I think I like those better than the beans. Of course I have to buy my carrots and don't grow beautiful ones like you do! What is your secret to growing good carrots? Love your homey homestead kitchen! Nancy

    1. I have had good fortune with my carrots but all that I can think of is that I grow them in garden boxes. The soil is very good and I add compost to it all through the year. Our daughter taught me to compost. I always thought that you needed a composter and had to turn it and water it and crank the handle around and around. It seemed like too much bother. She said, no all you have to do is dig a hole in your garden and bury it, so that's want I do. If the plant is already growing large I just go out about a foot and dig a hole the roots will grow and reach it. They love everything so I save all of my kitchen peelings and coffee ground and egg shells, too. Hey, I've seen your garden, you could give me lessons :)

  17. I see what you have planned to keep you warm this winter :) We grew garlic about 20 years ago but I can't really remember why we didn't grow it again, maybe it didn't do well with us either.

    1. I don't know what our problem is growing it, but at least it's not that expensive and a little goes a long way, although we do like it more than some folks.

  18. Im thinking Garlic is planted in the Fall but I could be wrong. Your peppers look so pretty. I have never canned but always wanted to give it a shot.

    1. Hi Lisa, You do plant it in the Fall, you're right about that . . . maybe it's our soil . . . we have just never figure out why it won't grow for us. So, I guess we'll purchase it and get on with what we can grow LOL and be happy :)

  20. Hi Connie... just stopping by to say hi. haven't read all the comments or your responses... but that pepper mix looks great! You guys are just awesome with all your canning! I've been a little under the weather with vertigo which I had years ago.. bu now is back again.. so it really puts a stopper on things. Have no interest (right now anyway) in blogging or being on the computer too much, as all the scrolling makes me dizzy! This Fall weather is so beautiful.. I get it's amazing up in your neck of the "woods" (fields, pastures, etc.)!!! My quilt is almost done.. haven't seen it yet as my sister has been quilting it, but hope I'll get it back any day now to put on the binding.. then will show it on my blog. Just wanted to say hi!
