Stenciling The Barn

I was out in the Barn today
and just had an itch to do something
and this is what I ended up doing.

A year ago I decided to paint my white
walls and add some color to the
interior of the barn.
I painted this wall turquoise adding
white here and there in a cloudy
whimsy look.
Today I stenciled over it.

Not measuring and being exact . . .
I don't care for exact, especially in my barn.

So here are a few photos of the wall . . .
tell me what you think.
I love the new Boho look of color
and freedom, so that is what I was going for :)

As you can see the wall next to it
is lavender . . . I haven't decided
whether to do the same to it,
but I think maybe yes.

I'll think about it for a while.

I love the freedom that I have in the Barn,
and I'm braver out there than in the house.

After all it's my creative space :)

That's it for this post.

Thank you so much for visiting
and please leave a comment.

You won't hurt my feelings . . .
not everyone has the same taste
and wouldn't it be boring if we did?

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

    1. Thank you . . . I love my Barn and love showing it off. It's a place where I can cut loose be creative and make a mess during a project . . . then just shut the door and have it waiting just as I left it. I worked at a kitchen table for year, cleaning up and putting away many times before completing a project. My Barn is a dream come true:)

  7. Oh it looks so delicate and pretty! I always loved seeing art like this and thought about a tree in the corner with vines trailing out on my craft room walls. You probably painted that beautiful lady with the long dark hair but I had a blog friend when I first started blogging, Lisa Lectura that painted beautiful ladies similar to this one. You don't be any chance know her do you? Enjoy your afternoon! I just hiked and now I'm having a bagel and coffee! Come on over!

I think it is wonderful that you get out and hike all the time . . . it must be nice having such mild winters. I enjoy your awesome wildlife photos, too :) Enjoy your bagel and coffee.

    1. Thank you . . . it was fun doing something a little different and I love how it turned out too :) It's wonderful having a space like this where I can get a little crazy with design . . . after all it was just paint, so it would have been an easy fix if I hated it. I love it and it will stay :)

  11. Oh I love it. Blue is my favorite color and then the stenciling on top of it looks fantastic. I like how you didn't worry about measuring.

    1. Ever! I just slap it up on the wall and if it looks good there I start stenciling, if not I move it to a place that does look good. Measuring and trying to be perfect takes the fun out of it and it makes it look too cookie cutter. That's my big fat opinion LOL

  12. Hi Connie, Yes, I do like your stenciling. I have done just a teeny bit of stenciling but think I would not have the patience to do all of that! I think I would probably vote for doing just the one wall as it would stand out more than if you did two walls. I see you have two chairs to sit in. Do you sit in one to do your hand stitching or read? Does Steve sit in he other to visit you? I hope he is better. Nancy

    1. Well that's a thought . . . I guess that I will live with it the way it is for a while, but when the creative bug bites me again, I'll remember that. I don't like too much of one thing and enjoy getting a bit wild and crazy out in the Barn. If you lived closer I would say, come on over and show me what you're thinking . . . we could paint together :)

  21. What a fun space!! I love the stencil over the cloudy turquoise wall, and I think it would look great to do the same to the lavender wall!

    1. Thanks, I might do that . . . I was thinking about a metallic paint, maybe antique gold for the stencil on the purple wall. What do you think about that? I know that paint is always a guessing game, until it's up you really don't know what will please you. The best part is, it's only paint and very easy to paint over if I don't like it:)

  24. Love it Connie! How fun to just do whatever you want with color and whimsy and paint! Love all the pictures and color and it looks so warm and cozy. The stenciling looks great... I say go for it on the lavender wall too! Why not? If you want to, do it. My craft room is bright yellow, which I didn't like at first, but now have grown to love it as it is so bright and cheery when I walk in on a gray dreary day outside. My walls are covered with photos, two vision boards, a picture board and racks to holding more of my stuff! I don't have hardly an inch of space left to put anything on my walls, but I love it! Take care sweet friend........... Marilyn

    1. Hi Connie, thanks for your input . . . I think that I will. Only I may wait a while to do that wall . . . I'm busy on quilting at the moment. It's just that the other day I was bored and so the paintings came off the wall and the stenciling when up. Usually when I have a day where I want a change I run and get a hair cut, that afterwards I can't stand, LOL. This was certainly a better way to loose the boredom. LOL.

    1. I like my Barn to be a little bit more of a surprise when you enter, than say our home would be. More fun, more creative, more of a transport into a free spirited artsy world, a place to experiment with ideas :) Paint is such a cheap way to experiment and I have all kinds of paint and colors. I never throw it out; a year ago my neighbor gave me a box of her leftover paint from projects. Paint is cheap and fun!

    1. Christina, it is a wonderful place to spend time. I was out there for about 4 hours yesterday working on a new quilt. I can pick-up our wireless connection from the house on that TV and watch quilting and crafting You Tube videos. I have learned a lot from You Tube. There is a video (or many) on just about every project you can think of :)

Your project serves to remind me that I need to get the porch stenciled, but my leg is healing slowly from surgery. I don't think I'll be able to do the project until February.

  35. awwww...it looks adorable. We all need a place...a little barn...a she-shed...somewhere that we can "let go" with our decorating. I would love to have a turquoise wall that I could stencil on...but not in my house...I would get too tired of it too quickly, I think. Your barn is perfect for things like this....I love it.

    1. Yes it does! The walls in my Art Barn are plywood and not top quality . . . I didn't want sheet-rock, because I wanted to be able to put a nail in the wall wherever I wanted and plenty of them, LOL. It's a place to display my work and collections . . . a fun place. painting with the pattern of stencils is a great remedy for imperfect walls :)

  37. Well, what fun! I used to do quite a bit of stenciling but haven't had the chance to do it lately. I love that you have the freedom to do what you love in the barn. What surprises me is the choice of artwork. I would have never in the world thought you would like modern art! Great job choosing things you love (including the walls) xo Diana
