Garden Fresh Pie, Screen doors & Zinnias

Look at the size of these blackberries!

I combined them with . . .

Fresh picked apricots . . .

Viola, Fresh Baked Pie!

Better yet, with ice cream :)

~~~~~🍦🍦~~~~~
Friday we visited Lowes and bought
a security screen door.
Then Saturday we recycled the old door
and installed it on the Art Barn :)
It was too large, but after cutting it down
we made it fit . . .good enough for the barn.
I Love It!
My zinnias by the barn . . .
Are starting to bloom :)
They are such happy flowers.
Don't you agree?
Thanks for stopping by . . .
I love and appreciate you all.
Keep Smiling!
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
    That's a nice looking screen door. I didn't realize they made security screen doors.
    1. I wish you were here to enjoy this pie with us . . . we have been blessed with a wonderful crop of blackberries this year. I'm putting them in the freezer and I see several berry pies throughout the cold winter months ahead :)
    1. The blackberries started just as the apricots where finishing for the season, so I just decided to see how they would go together. The sweetness of the apricots are a perfect match with the berries and this will be a pie that I make year after year from now on :)
  4. Hi Connie, Here I am still in the hospital so it was a nice treat to see your wonderful blog today! Oh, that pie is looking so delicious! I love the way you put the old screen door on your Art Barn but I love your Art Barn anyway! Wish I could find your brand of zinnia seeds as I have not had any luck since we moved growing them. They are so pretty. I hope the week goes well for you and Steve. Nancy
  7. Your rustic pie looks SO delicious! I love making that kind since I only have to roll out one circle of dough...so easy.
    I also like the secure screen doors. My DH made one using and old solid core door and used wrought iron spindles
    ( from an old railing) for the bars. Not as lovely as some but ever so useful.
    1. Your screen door sounds wonderful . . . I refer homemade one of a kind to anything manufactured. My poor Steve is just not up to homemade anymore and he wants to feel like he is still contributing to our safety. Sounds like we both are blessed with good men that love taking good care of their families. :)
    1. Hello Sweet Susie, there is something about the old fashioned zinnia that brings a simple joy to my heart. maybe it's the multitude of cheerful colors or the simplicity of a flower with basic petals . . . daises are another favorite of mine. I wish that there was a way of baking a pie and setting it on your window still to cool . . . it was a real treat with the ice cream added.
      Thank you for your prayers . . . you and Ted are in my prayers as well. We have a wonderful Savior and He is in control . . . His love is enough :) God bless you both.
    Zinnias are one of my favorite flowers. We used to always have them, but then they got a fungus and we were told to take a break.
  10. Nice doors, did the one on the barn squeek? Like the lovely old screen doors used to? Zinnia's are happy flowers, they take the heat and the sun, they turn their little faces to the sun, are bright and cheerful. I've got a few in my flower pots, they are one of my favorites. Let's have some pie, ice cream and a good cup of coffee, we've already got the good company. :)
    1. I don't have a spring for the door yet . . . that will come as soon as I get to town and find one. Then my screen door on the barn should have a squeak; I certainly hope so. Thanks for stopping in to visit. I loved reading your comment. I have memories of the sound of an old screen door too :)
    1. Hi Debi, I can't believe how big our blackberries are this year. Everything in the garden depends on the weather. Our tomatoes are green on the vine, just waiting for hot weather. I probably won't be seeing very many until September this year. Every year around here is different . . . but we have been enjoying having a milder summer . . . more time to enjoy the front porch :)
    1. Eight years of welding would do me in . . . in fact I wanted to learn and Steve was going to teach me. I bought all the safety gear and was ready to go, but was so afraid of getting burned that I didn't enjoy it one bit. That was one creative idea that ever really got off the ground for me . . . hard to be creative when you're scared.
  16. Hi Connie...The zinnias are gorgeous. Think I'll plant those next year. You've inspired me. Also, I never thought of combining those luscious blackberries with apricots. They have been experimenting with his chemo meds and two weeks ago he was sick 9 out of 14 days between sessions, the last session was a week ago yesterday and he hasn't been sick once. It is wonderful . . . he is finally able to enjoy his days again. I'm happy when he feels good too, so we are having a great week. Thank you again . . . we appreciate each and every prayer :)
  17. Connie, those berries are huge!! and your pie is amazing. Really amazing! I want to make a fruit pie with a folded crust like yours, but don't know how. That is the most delicious looking pie I've ever seen. I love zinnias too and you're right, zinnias are happy flowers. Your new door looks good. We use our old screen doors too. The last one made a good door for the little guinea lot.
    1. This is the easiest of all ways to bake a pie . . . just roll one crust larger than you normally would. Put it in the pan, fill it and fold over the crust around the top of the pie. Like tucking in a baby for a nap, ha-ha . . . give it a try. Leave a hole on top from air to escape while baking.
  18. Good morning Connie. Those blackberries are HUGE! The pie looks wonderful and oh so sweet. I love zinnia's. A friend brought me a bouquet of them this weekend from her garden. The first garden bed Dennis built me was planted every year with zinnia's. I agree, they're happy flowers and we need happiness in our world don't we?
    Your screen door is great. We need to replace ours too but I keep looking for the "perfect" one. I don't think it's out there.
    Blessings,
    Betsy
  20. I wasn't here to comment sooner, but love your post. The blackberries look wonderful! I miss having them around this town where I can go out and pick. The one area we do have them is about 12 miles from here, but going to see if I can beg my hubby to go with me there. Trouble is, there are alot of snakes around there! I still need my blackberry pie. My mom always made them and I just need a few during the summer. And I agree that zinneas are such happy flowers. I didn't get any planted this year so will try next year. I love all the colors and they are so sturdy and strong. Blessings to you and Steve.. always sending my thoughts and prayers your way. Hugs..   30. What a bountiful harvest of blackberries! I just planted two this spring, and it will probably be a while before we get to enjoy much of a harvest from them. I too LOVE my zinnas, they truly do paint a picture of happiness! Such joy my flowers and blooms bring me. You have some wonderful surprises growing in your garden too! Always love those volunteers! Continuing in prayer for you and your husband! And that pie... oh yes, I need to try making a pie like that, it looks so inviting and delicious! Blessings to you and your husband!!!!
  31. Oh yes, they are really happy flowers and on seeing them they make me happy. They were my moms fave flower to have growing in the garden. Dessert looks GREAT and now I want something sweet. Oops, seeing it don't have to make me want it, I love things with sugar in it. That looks yummy. And yes, the storm door looks good there. Nice little spot.
  32. As my Dad would exclaim, "That pie looks good enough to eat!" That was mighty high praise. He loved his pie. My brother and I have laughed, remembering how he would stop by the little coffee shop for pie, more often than any of us would guess. It was his little treat after a heavy, hot work day. Love your zinnias! Can only find the dwarf size here in the nurseries. I think I will need to go on line and search for see of the standard size. They are not hard to start. I like the way you made that screen door fit the art barn. Every barn should have a screen door.
    Trusting things are coming along as they should.
    Prayers.
And now, I'll take a slice of that awesome looking pie! :D Blessing and prayers for you guys! ♥
