Grab a cup of coffee
Or
An ice cold lemonade . . .
I've got lots of photos to share.
First of all I started this quilt
around 6 weeks ago.
There was picking out the fabric to use.
Planning my blocks
and trying to figure out how I
would place them . . .
That's trail and error for me.
I don't like following someone
else's plan when it come to being
creative.
Sewing blocks together
and quilting . . .
And then finally
the quilt is finished.
Now, I must confess that I am
blown away by the way
some quilters photograph their
finished quilts.
The back of the quilt. |
Hanging them from bridges,
laying them across split rail fences,
a bench in a flower garden,
or
hanging them on the side of a barn.
These women amaze me with their
artful displays.
I just can't seem to manage
a creative background
for my quilts,
But I tried by using the
clothes line.
Modern day term: Solar Drier :)
When I thought the lighting was
right for my photos . . .
the wind came up, LOL
What's a girl to do . . .
After I took the quilt off the line
and came back into the house,
I looked outside to this.
These photos were not enhanced,
this is God's glorious handiwork :)
Later we had a small thunderstorm.
Beulah was laying by the screen door
when the first thunder roared
and she ran and hide in the bathroom.
What's my girl going to do
on the 4th of July?
If you're still here . . .
thanks for hanging in there
it was a long post.
Remember to enjoy each day,
they are gifts from God.
Keep Smiling,
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
Lovely quilt, Connie! And that sky, wow! Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteI know wasn't the sky glorious!
DeleteAll excellent quilt pics, Connie:) I love the straight line quilting and the colors of navy and grey compliment each other well.
ReplyDeleteThe sunset photos are great as well. Keep up your great sewing and garden updates! thanks for sharing it all♥
Oh there'll be lots of garden post to come. That's what my summer is all about :)
DeleteSuch a lovely new quilt, so clever of you to design it yourself. I've got a solar driver too, there is nothing nicer than a load of laundry dried in the sun. Love your early evening sky photos, nature truly is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is drying bed sheets on the line, they smell so wonderful.
DeleteBeautiful quilt! And the clothes line setting was great... unique! Loved seeing the quilt blowing in the wind!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I was a bit worried that those photos would be a bit corny. I'd love to find some really creative ways to photograph my quilts.
DeleteLOVE the quilt. I even like the back of it. I've never made a quilt but other sewing projects, choosing the fabric was always the hardest part for me.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a pretty sunset.
When I looked out and saw the sunset I had to text my sister-in-law to make sure they went out and looked at it too, it was just breathtaking and even more beautiful in real life than the photos.
DeleteNo matter how you display your quilt it is beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you, you are so sweet.
DeleteBeautiful quilt! I liked how you displayed it.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteBeautiful photos! I love your quilt, you picked such pretty fabrics. I'm not very creative when photographing my sewing projects either... but the "solar dryer" was a really good idea. I'll have to remember that the next time. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteAt least it was a good way to show the whole quilt. If it had been any larger it would have touched the ground. I'm just so impressed by how some people photograph their quilts. I want to get more creative.
DeleteI am so impressed! You did that in 6 weeks? It is really beautiful. And your display on the clothesline is perfect. As is God's artwork!
ReplyDeleteMari, you say the sweetest things, thank you:)
DeleteWow, that is a beautiful quilt. I just can't imaging getting a quilt made that quick and it being so pretty. Oh, to me, the clothesline is the best place for the pictures. I love it. and such a beautiful sky. Our little Ellie does not like thunder either.
ReplyDeleteIt really surprised me, because the thunder really wasn't very loud at all. She ran to the bathroom to hide and stayed there until bedtime and then I had a hard time getting her to go out and go potty. She just didn't know what to think about that thunder.
DeleteWhat a beautiful new quilt! I like it hung on the railing of your front porch! Enjoy your evening! Hope no thunder boomers come through!
ReplyDeleteI like it hung on the porch too, but that only shows half of it. I need to figure out some ways to be more creative in showing them off. I'm welcome to any ideas.
DeleteSuch an absolutely gorgeous quilt Connie. I love it! I know what you mean about Beulah running and hiding. We used to find Chloe hiding in our bedroom closet. When the kids still lived at home or visit, she will find them and haver her walk them to Zesto's ice cream, The grocery store, etc.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
My dogs have been such a blessing. They're so much company.
DeleteI love your quilt and it looks good hanging on the line and the porch. I really need to get back to sewing. I have so many unfinished projects.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I have two other quilt tops made that I need to sandwich together and get busy quilting. Then I have blocks that I've got made that I haven't sewn together for another one. Do you find while you're working on one quilt, you're already planning the next. That's me!
DeleteYour latest quilt is lovely and I think hanging it from the clothesline is a great way to display it. So is hanging it over the porch rail.
ReplyDeleteThe sunset clouds are absolutely glorious. Just think, if you hadn't gone to take the quilt off the line you might have missed it.
I know! Sometimes we get so busy inside the house that we don't take the time to look outside at all the beauty around us. That sunset was breathtaking, much prettier in real life than in the photos.
DeleteBeautiful quilt which was a delight to see hanging on the line. The skies were indeed breathtaking, such beauty.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm delighted so many people like this quilt. I've always made my quilts more colorful than this one, so it was something new for me. I was inspired by my neighbor who made a hexie flower quilt all in blacks and whites and it is gorgeous.
DeleteI hadn't commented on the two previous posts but all your projects are truly wonderfully inspirational. (My father's old rusty tool box might find new life!) I've been spray painting my porch chair. :) Quilts hanging on the line are a joy to behold and yours is gorgeous, as are all your flowers.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Linda
I hope you will post about your father's toolbox when you finish your project. I would love to see what you do.
DeleteI'm not sure which is the lovelier, the sunset or the quilt! I think you have 'styled' it perfectly, it looks lovely blowing in the breeze. Your design is very attractive too.
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet, but definitely the sunset is prettier. I am happy that you like the quilt though.
Deleteyour quilt is so pretty, I have always wanted to do a hexagon quilt. Love the way you quilted it, shows up nice on the back. My favorite picture is it hanging over the porch railing :) Wow that was a gorgeous sunset!!
ReplyDeleteI like it over the railing too, only it doesn't show the whole quilt. It was fun to do and I'm gifting it so I hope she likes it :)
DeleteHi Connie, I love the fabric colors , I always love a bit of black . The clothes line was a great choice for staging. I see some pattern and stitching you've done I may want to try. I've got to do a baby quilt soon. I'm nowhere the seasoned quilter you are. Poor baby, my pups are too scared of thunder and fireworks. Can't wait to see what you'll be up to next. Thanks for reminding me....enjoy each day. Lisa @ Sweet Tea N'Salty Air
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa, thanks for stopping by to visit and for your sweet comment. I wonder why your comments are coming up as anonymous?
DeleteSo much eye candy! Your quilt is striking in its elegant simplicity. Love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd the views from your porch are equally lovely. Inspiring, I'm sure.
Your post surely is inspiring to me. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, you're very kind.
DeleteYou have certainly done a great job of making this quilt Connie - very talented! Thunderstorm here last night and rain this evening - getting colder as we go further into Winter. Have a great weekend there- thinking of you. Regards. KEV.
ReplyDeleteHow cold you your winters get, does it ever snow there?
DeleteHi Connie :) I LOVE your solar dryer!! ;))) The quilt is gorgeous, I love the colour scheme!!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The reason I have a clothes line is when I'm not too lazy, I love to hang my bed sheets out there. The sun drying them make them smell glorious.
DeleteHi Connie, Oh, my I am behind! This was posted five days ago. Rosie and trying to keep making things gluten free seem to take most of my time along with doctor appointments. Your quilt is strikingly beautiful and I like the way you photographed them. Yes, God sure knows how to paint beautiful pictures for us to enjoy! Nancy
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful Connie! and I love the display of it on your porch railing.. and the solar drier and just perfect for quilts!!! You are lucky to have that solar drier! I love the backing of your quilt.. that vintage newsprint or ads.. I love that kind of fabric. You are a quilting machine for sure! Sounds like you are keeping super super busy.. what with quilting and your yard and garden. I think of you often and can picture you out in your garden and riding your mower around the yard. Sending hugs... Marilyn
