Packing Up Christmas

Packing up Christmas . . .

when do you do it?

I've started a new quilt,

good Lord willing

it will be my first of 2026.

Here are a few photos

of it in progress 😊

I'm able to use up

a lot of my scrapes.

This is what my design

board looks like at the

moment.

As I pack a way my Christmas

decorations there's a bit of sadness

that goes with it.

I look forward to Christmas

and hate to see it

go so soon.

As we enter into a

New Year

remember . . .

Trust Him

He is ever faithful.

Trust Him

for He is the best!

Trust Him

for the heart of Jesus

Is the only place of rest.

❄❅❆⛄❆❅❄

God Bless You All

&

Happy New Year.

❄❅❆⛄❆❅❄

your blogging sister,

Connie :)

  1. I usually pack mine away after everyone goes home on Christmas evening. It was a couple of days after this year, but everything is back to normal and I am happy about that. I get tired of all the extra stuff really quick. I love the quilt!

Happy New Year and God Bless,
    Pam

  2. I usually don't start to pack it up until after New Years Day. I enjoy the lights until then, and then I am ready to get rid of the clutter and start the New Year fresh. That quilt looks like it will be so beautiful and very colorful! Do you give them away or sell them or keep them? I can see so much to love in it already! The good news about Christmas is that when we pack up our Christmas things, Jesus stays out with us, because He is Emmanuel, God with us., ALL the time, All year long, and not just for Christmas! Praise God for that Good News!

    1. I'm with you I keep mine up to New years and then I start packing everything away. As for the quilts I make I keep some and I give some away. I've never sold any I'm not making them to sell.
Without the Lord I would have no hope at all. I am amazed that the creator of the universe and all things in it, loves me. And loves me so much that He gave His life to save me that I might one day live forever with Him. What a mighty God we serve!

  3. Ahhh, Christmas. Don't pack it up too soon. Some years we leave it up; some years it gets packed up sooner. I think we left the deco up until Feb 1 last year, partly because we both were sick so much last winter and found the deco comforting.... and also because neither of us had the energy to pack it. Years ago, I packed it up on New Years day and glad to have it out of the way. But, with just the 2 of us now...and a lot less energy and stamina in our older age..... I put out only a few things (gasp, no tree), so the deco is less overwhelming, coming and going. :-)

Your new quilt is beautiful. That pattern is one of my favorites. Sometimes the blocks are bigger and sometimes smaller, but always turn out great. Enjoy the making and using. And a Happy, Blessed 2026 to you.

    1. Linda I know exactly what you mean about putting up less each year. That's me too. I just don't have the energy that I used to have. I hardly put anything up outdoors just a few lights by the gate and that was it. Everything we put up we have to take back down and the weather is always colder after Christmas.
Thank you for your lovely comments about my quilt. Yes they can be made in all sizes my blocks are 18 1/2 inches right now and I'll probably after I square them up they'll be 18 in.

    1. I know what you mean. I'm just going with how well I feel. When I have a really good energetic day, which are far and inbetween the older I get, that's the day I'll take them down, LOL

    1. I do enjoy the lights too. There is something very comforting about Christmas decorations. It's a reminder of the sacrifice God made to come back to earth as a babe and die for our sins. Why? Because He loves us so much.

  6. Oh dear, I dread packing up Christmas! The soft lights in the garland around the kitchen sink window, lights in all the windows in the living room, the tree all lit up this cold snowy morning while I drink my coffee! It's so festive and cheery in here! We have the plaid throw blankets and the fleecy ones with trees, and the throw pillows, and all the smiling snowmen on the shelves...also, I have been rather stuck in the house for the last two months, a knee replacement leaving my surgical knee unstable, can't walk without the walker yet so I can't really do much. Christmas really kept me busy! But, God knows exactly what we need!

    1. Maybe it would be a good thing for you to just leave them up for as long as you can. They're a wonderful reminder of the amazing Love or God has for us.

    1. Thank you for the comments on my quilt and yes it's wonderful when a sister shares her faith. We have an awesome God and much to be thankful for, especially the fact that He is always with us and will never forsake us.

  8. Hello Connie, yes, packing up Christmas is a bit sad, which is why I like to get my things out nice and early, to enjoy them longer. It was only Christmas quilts this year as I can't access the upstairs loft, up the rickety ladder by myself. And of course, Christmas isn't the same with the loss of our beloved husbands, is it. Wishing you a Happy New Year.

  9. No Christmas is will never be the same, but we have to move on and find joy in each day that lies ahead of us. I am so grateful that you did not try climbing that rickety ladder by yourself. Before Steve passed he made me make a few promises to him and one of those was that I would not go climbing ladders unless someone knew what I was doing and I had my phone in my pocket. I try to have someone here when I do something with the ladder, but I have called a friend when I just have a little 5-minute job and ask them to put the phone on speaker and stay online until I'm safely down. Falling is not something we need to be doing at our age. God bless you and have a wonderful New Year, I know it will be hard but keep putting one foot in front of the other. God bless you sweet friend.

  10. We generally don't get our decorations down until we've celebrated with all the extended family. That usually happens sometime around the new year, though we're in the midst of a stormy week with high winds and blowing snow. We don't do a huge amount of decorating so it doesn't seem cluttered. There is a wonderful book "The Art of Living in Season, a Year of Reflections for Everyday Saints" by Sylvie Vanhoozer that speaks to our annual pilgrimage toward Christ, our way of becoming "Adventish" in every season of the year and our life. Your spiderweb quilt is coming along beautifully! Happy New Year!

  11. Amen! Thank you for this lovely post. I usually take the tree down either New Years Eve or Day. I like having the house back to normal by then. We didn't put a tree and Christmas out this year since we were in London visiting our son and his little family. I did however, put out all of my snowmen before we left and leave them out until the end of January when Valentine's make an appearance. I love that no matter where we go at the holiday, Jesus knows just where to find us and love on us.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

    1. Wow, I haven't been keeping up very well with blogs lately and had no idea that you'd gone to London. I'm very happy for you that you could go visit your son and his family. What a lovely way to spend the holidays. 🎄❄️🎄

  12. We take down Christmas on January 6th. We went from a big tree to a tall thin one and now I can't fit all my ornaments on it, I have such a big snowman collection that I now take down Christmas and put up all my snowmen ornaments and decorations around the house for the month of January, I started that last year and enjoy having the lights still since the month can be quite gloomy and that helps keep my spirits up with the lights.
Your quilt is coming along great, and it sure is a great way to use up scraps, fun design!

    1. I totally agree, only mine is still up. Actually I'm waiting for my back to quit hurting before I take mine down . . . I've reached that age where it seems like everyday something hurts. If it's not one thing it's another. I'm not complaining just stating a fact, LOL

  16. I'm late in visiting blogs this year. I get overwhelmed more easily these days ( and get less done) . As you put it...I'm not complaining, just saying it as it is. My DH helped me put Christmas things away, including the tree. Then he cleaned the windows in the sunroom (where the tree & creche were) so everything looks tidy now. I was blessed just reading all the lovely comments above. There really are wonderful folks in our world and I need reminding of that fact. I hope 2026 will be a good year for you. Is Beulah still keeping you company?

    1. Yes, Beulah is right here beside me now. She follows me from room to room, most generally, and is my steady companion.
Sorry that you're feeling overwhelmed. Yes, there are many wonderful people in this world kind-hearted and loving people. I know when we watch the news we see so much hate and so much turmoil, that it's easy to get depressed or feel low, but hallelujah our Lord knows what's going on and He is the one that's in control. He will allow certain things to happen so that His will, will be done on earth. God bless you and I hope that your New Year 2026 is a pleasant and lovely one.

  18. I still have my Christmas up, probably because we put it up a bit later in the season. I am going to take it down this week, although I am lingering on doing it. Your new quilt looks so amazing! The colors are all so wonderful, and great that you can use up so many different fabrics for it! Your talent amazes me! Happy New Year blessings to you!
