Sunday Night's Summer Storm

Sunday night we had a horrible storm with high winds, lightening, thunder and rain.
Much needed rain.
The power was off for 4 hours.
So, Steve and I lit candles and went out on the back porch
to watch the lightening show.
The wind was so strong that it was whipping our poplar trees all around.
We decided that it might be safer if we went back in.
This morning our backyard looked like this.

and this . . .
I was getting ready to start clearing the branches,
when I heard chain saws.
So, I went out front to see this. . .

Just two houses down from us.

The good thing was that these trees did not hit their houses.

Look at this one, can you see the little birdhouse still hanging there.

I've heard that the city closed all the schools Monday.
I'm certain that there are many neighborhoods in worse condition
and a few houses that were not missed.
In fact it is Tuesday and a neighboring town 40 miles away, still does not have electricity.

I hope that you are all safe and sound.
So far I've not heard of anyone that has been hurt,
I certainly hope that is the case.

Things happen and life goes on . . .
stay positive and keep a smile on your face.

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  1. Glad you guys made it out ok through that storm. I guess Ritzville was/is a MESS. No power, tress down, powerlines down. We are 20 miles SE of Ritz. We had a tree down and branches all over! Our power never went out! The last storm a few weeks ago, we lost 4 trees! As you know, trees are so so precious around here!

    1. I think that Ritzville and Othello . . . might have got the worst of it. Othello was without power for over 48 hours. Thanks for stopping by to visit. I love company :)

  2. it's so sad when mature trees get blown over. and what's the deal with the red paint on the end of those cut off branches?

    1. I'm not sure about the red paint, unless it is for a slow down driving warning, the cuts are made right where the street starts. When the tree fell it fell across our street. I'm sure that there are rules about getting the streets cleared as fast as possible, and that there are specific steps to follow. I'm sure the paint had to do with those rules. We live in a desert area and our mature trees are priceless to us . . . so sad:(
Thanks for stopping by and visiting :)

    1. Me too, LOL
There is a big tree in our front yard, and by the direction that all the trees fell, if it would have fallen, it would have landed in my studio. I'm delighted that, that did not happen :) Can you see me doing my happy dance?

  4. Wow Connie,

So glad that no homes were damaged. Oh, but those old, beautiful trees. How very sad. I noticed the red paint also and see your response above.

Thanks for visiting me! I'm hoping to get the closet organized this weekend.

    Hugs,

  6. Wow, that was some storm! We had one that didn't seem so bad just a few weeks back, but it was amazing to see how many trees it took out--really big ones, too.

Thank you for your blog visit and comment, Connie, I do appreciate it!

  7. Connie-That was quite a storm. There is something exciting to me about big storms as long as they are not damaging to anything. It looks like your personal damage wasn't too bad and that is a good thing. Blessings to you- glad you are safe- xo Diana

    1. Hi Diana, yes, it did not hit us hard at all. I was really surprised the next day to see and hear about all the damage around town and the neighboring towns for 50 miles around us.

  8. oh wow, that was some storm. So glad you didn't suffer any damage. Amazing how wind can blow a tree that size over like that.

    1. Hi Ann, It is amazing, wind and water both can be terrific forces of energy. When you look at cities that have had hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods and all the damage that occurs. I have never been in any of those, but back in May of 1980, we were covered in four inches of ash from Mt. St. Helens. That was a day to remember. That day and the weeks to follow are forever printed in my memory.

  10. You were brave to go outside to watch it (and smart to go back in!!). That's a lot of damage...I so glad no one was hurt.

  11. Gosh, Connie. That was a whammer of a storm. Do you live in Washington state? Gee. That was really too bad as you had to do a lot of clean up. Glad you're okay. Susan

    1. Hi Susan, yes, we do live in Washington state . . . our clean up was minimal, but our poor neighbors are still working on getting their trees out, and their fence mended. To bad that they didn't at least have fireplaces.

  12. So glad you were alright through the storm. Too bad for the loss of those big trees, but things could have been much worse. The good thing...rain! I hope you didn't have much damaged in your yard....Be safe and prayers for you....Roxie

    1. Hi Roxie, I just read a newspaper report and there was one section of country road that lost 30 power lines. We were truly blessed with nothing but branches down. One of our neighboring towns was without electricity for over 48 hours.

    1. Hi Ali, in a normal lighting storm or heavy rain, we really enjoy sitting out there. The rain is always so fresh and it is fun to watch the excitement. This last storm was a lot more excitement than we were used too.

  14. I think we are getting that storm right now! It's too dark out to see any damage but we've had rain, lightening and thunder since 2:00am! Glad you didn't have too much damage. Feeling for the people in Colorado right now.

  15. Oh, wow, Connie. So glad there wasn't major damage to your house, etc. What a mess, though, to have to clean up. We are hoping for rains coming up out of Mexico from Ingrid, but praying for those already having flooding in Mexico and part of Texas near us..and for those in Colorado. Glad you all stayed safe! - Revis

    1. Hi Patricia, We are fine and have nothing compared to our neighbors and surrounding towns. When I compare our 4 hours of no electricity to their over 48 hours, and our messing branches down in the backyard to some of the houses that did have trees fall on them . . . I feel totally blessed.

    1. Hi Lana, we drove into town this morning and I can not believe how many trees we saw that were down. I feel so bad for the people with roof damage . . . fall is here, all of a sudden and that means rain.
