I had a little time to play this week
and did two very easy and rewarding projects:)
A banner for the fireplace
&
Wooden spools for storing lace.
I cut the fabric, mine was scraps from painter's drop cloth.
Paint and stencils.
I got this ideas from Carol at
ART & SAND
If you don't know Carol's blog . . .
you are missing out.
I just rolled the fabric over the jute and sewed a seam.
It's was "sew" easy :)
For the spools I cut pieces from a dole.
Purchased these wooden circles.
Used rubber stamps to stamp the wood.
And glued:)
Well, I just thought that I would share.
Have a great weekend.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
"Counting Our Blessings" so beautiful, and I believe it is something you do every day, Connie :)
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Rosemary, it's something we do around here many times a day . . . I think that the older I get the more that I can look back and see how very many times the Lord has blessed me over and over again. Some times they are huge blessings, and sometimes they are very small and intimate sweet blessing, like a Father caressing His child. I could not get through a single day without my Lord:)
DeleteIt's always wonderful to play and it seems you have been participating in the best kinda play! Your banner hanging on your colourful mantle is singing the most wonderful of blessed tunes and I love your wooden spools with gatherings of your lace. They look original. Let's hope you get to have oodles more play time this coming week!
ReplyDeleteHello Kim, thank you for your sweet comment. I am delighted that you like my little crafts. It was great being able to steal away a few hours this week to play. Having time to be creative is always such a restful time for my soul. It refreshes me in between all the work that we have been doing. We started last Saturday putting windows in our little house and yesterday, eight days later we installed the last one :) There is still insulating the small spaces between the wall and window and putting up trim, but the hard part is done and they look beautiful:)
DeleteThose are BOTH great ideas, Connie. I love banners and just realized that I have given all my own to the kids! I need to make a couple of new ones. Yours is just darling...and those little spools are REALLY cute! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, these would be fun crafts for you to do with your granddaughters. If their Momma sews, a basket of spools filled with lace would be a great gift that they could make:)
DeleteLove your banner! I just won a banner from Carol's giveaway. Love, love, love...the spools that you made!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend.
~Cindy
Hi Cindy, I saw those banners that she made . . . they were wonderful and congratulations on being one for her winners.
DeleteCarol is such a talented gal and a very sweet blogging sister.
Have a wonderful week:)
You banner turned out great!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much:)
DeleteOk... the banner, is just a good reminder and definitely different as far as banners go; I don't think I've seen one with this saying on it.
ReplyDeleteBut the dowel and disks turned 'SPOOLS'... GENIUS!
such a cute and clever little craft and they make storage pretty!
Hi Patricia, I agree that storage is even better when it is pretty, LOL.
DeleteI am happy that you liked my little crafts:)
What great projects! Both the banner and the spools are awesome. I'm amazed over how easy you make it look :). Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDelete~ Maria ~
Hi Maria, they don't just look easy, they really are easy.
DeleteThese would even be fun things to make with children.
I know I have seen crafts that were suppose to be easy,
and I ask . . ."Easy for who" LOL.
These truly are:)
How clever of you! I was waiting to see where you had found the spools and then discovered that you made them yourself! Very nice. Have a wonderful weekend, Connie.
ReplyDeleteHello Lorrie, yes, those little spoons were fun and easy to make . . . thanks for the sweet comment and you have a wonderful weekend, too.
DeleteIt is always a pleasure having you stop by:)

Hi Gilly, I love finding simple crafts that I can put together when time is limited, and I just thought that there would be others that also have limited time.
DeleteThese were fun and just needed to be shared. Thank you for you sweet words of encouragement:)
I love you banner and your mantel is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you Betty . . . you are so sweet:)
DeleteCute banner. I would not be able to use one here, but that is a very simple craft to make. Love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristina, it is so easy that it would be a great banner for birthdays or for hanging in the trees at an outdoor dinner party. I'm very happy that you like it:)
DeleteWhat a fun playtime you had Connie. The banner is very homely and looks good on your fireplace. I absolutely love the lace spools. You have such imagination. Where did you find those wonderful stamps? Have a great weekend dear friend. P x
ReplyDeleteHi Patricia, I just happened to already have the stamps. One is a Tim Holtz and I'm not sure about the other. I was just looking through my collection for something round that would work and was surprised that I had two that worked perfectly. These were fun to make and made storage a little bit prettier:)
DeleteGreat ideas! Your banner is so cute. Love your Fall decorating.
ReplyDeleteHello Nancy, it is always nice to see your profile photo among my comments. Thank you for your friendship and your encouraging words . . . I am delighted that you like my banner and fall decorations. I got rid of so many things when I moved, but saved one big bag of fall items. It was fun seeing how they would look in our new space:)
DeleteI can't believe how easy the spools are to make - might have to try some.
ReplyDeleteI love your banner.
Hi Carol, see how you inspire other blogging sisters . . . you're a treasure:)
DeleteHappy that you like the spools and as for the banner, well, I couldn't have done it without first seeing your easy idea:)
This post reminds me of my ol' scrapbooking days....so much fun playing with stamps and fabric. You mantel look fabulous!! (Fall is my very favorite season!!)
ReplyDeleteHi Valerie, thanks so much for stopping by to visit. I don't use my stamps nearly as much as I used to . . . I forget sometimes how there are so many more ways to use them than just making cards and scrap-booking. Many years ago when painting my living room I used a couple leave stamps and just here an there applied them to the wall with different shades of brown. My room was painted beige. It was a pretty affect.
DeleteYou are sure handy! When I first looked at the spools I thought you had bought them and that they were antiques! Love your banner. No nice and homey looking. Nancy
ReplyDeleteHello Nancy, I do hope that your weekend is going along in a pleasant and lovely way.
DeleteThose spoons were fun to make and they make storing lace a bit fun and fancy:)
Very sweet banner. Your spools are very clever and cute.

DeleteYou are so clever and talented! Your banner looks fantastic on your fireplace and I totally love those spools. At first I thought they were antique. All totally awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cathy-Lynn
Hello Cathy-Lynn, and thank you so much . . . I thought the spools would be a fun way to store my lace
Deleteand buying antique ones (or even finding them) could be expensive:) Instead these were fun!
Cute ideas! They look like a lot of fun to make too.
ReplyDeleteOh, they were :)
DeleteEverything turned out beautiful, including the new windows! I love the banner.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kathy M.
Hi Kathy, thank you. Well, we picked up the windows from Home Depot last Saturday and yesterday we got the last one installed. We still have to spray that foam installation in around them and put new trim up on the inside of the house, but the hard work is done and we are ready for winter :)
DeleteI'm doing my happy dance!
I love quick and easy crafts, especially for this time of year when you need the craft fix but are too busy for a big project.
ReplyDeleteCindy Bee
Hi Cindy, I hope that these will come in handy for you:)
DeleteBy the way . . . I love your little trailer in the woods:)
Love your creativity!
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought to make my own spools!! You are so cleaver :)
Thanks for including the tutorials for us.
Smiles :)
K.
Good Morning Kerin, I am happy that I have the ability to share ideas . . . Isn't blogging wonderful?
DeleteAntique spools are expensive and hard to find.
These are easy to make and turn storing any ribbon, string, lace etc into something pretty:)
I hope you give this project a try.
Have a lovely day:)
I'm in love with the banner and I love the words you chose to write on it.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much:)
DeleteConnie, You are a clever talented girl. I love the spools and your banner is perfect. I have visited Carol's art& sand blog many times...she is a crafty girl too. I love the idea of using an old drop cloth. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteHi Susie, be careful you might give me the "Big Head", LOL Thanks you for all of your sweet comments, you are so kind :)

ReplyDeleteHello Marci, thanks so much for stopping by and for following my blog. I always get excited when I have a new follower. I'm delighted that you like these two little projects, they were fun to do :)
DeleteOh my Gosh! I luv the 'painters cloth' idea.. I have been using burlap,, which is a bit tricky... (made lined burlap curtains for a trailer-will never do that again!)...
ReplyDeleteIn fact I happen to have a un-used flat of painters cloth out in the garage...hmmm, wonder if hubby will notice if I snag it! lol!.. Oh I know,,, I'll tell him you made me do it! heeheehee! Have a wonderful weekend.
>^..^<
That sounds fine . . . just put the blame on me, LOL.
DeleteClever banner.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these are great crafts and I visit Art and Sand regularly too :)
ReplyDeleteI love easy and inexpensive crafts. The banner is great way to use up some of that scrap fabric I'd been saving. Thanks for sharing, Connie!!
