Watermelon Vines & Painted Toenails

 ~~~~~*****~~~~~
When you see watermelon vines & painted toenails . . .
around here . . . that means SUMMER :)
~~~~~*****~~~~~
This is my Art Barn . . .
my place to unwind and create.
Our weather is very hot,
it is suppose to reach 103 degrees today.
That's much nicer than last Sunday's 112.

As you can see the plants love it . . .
that is as long as I'm out there feeding
them lots water.

Lets walk around the barn before going
inside to see my latest project.
This is the side that faces the road.
That old wheel barrow belonged to
my Steve's Dad :)

These are the boxes I built
and planted on the back side of the barn.
The squash and onion are doing okay,
but the heat has gotten to the sugar peas.

This box in on the other side of the barn.
I have watermelon, cantaloupe and zinnias planted in it.

As I was taking these photos . . .
a little butterfly flew down to get into the pictures.

So I followed him until he flew away.

I love Zinnias.
They help pollinate the garden,
because bees love them,
and they hold up very well in bouquets.
Besides that they are so pretty:)

Back around to the front again.
This box is planted with pumpkins,
zinnias and carrots.

This is a chair that I purchased at the
Goodwill for $7.99.
It is my newest project.

I have always wanted to paint a fabric chair,
and I love the style of this one.
I'm giving it a base coat of white.

Then I'm going to let my imagination
go wild and have some fun!

Now go paint your toenails . . .
it's sandal weather:)
~~~~~*****~~~~~
Happy 4th of July
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
  1. Beautiful garden Connie....and I love Zinnias too!! I guess I did not realize they attracted the bee's....next year I will plant them by my zucchini....for some reason I have a tough time getting zucchini to grow....the flowers do fine but there is never any pollination going on for lack of bees. I need my toe nails painted but I can't reach down to do them!!!! Have a wonderful 4th.
  2. Thanks for the reminder!!! I have blue metallic toenail color right now, and I wanted to redo them to a bright bright red. I'm gonna go do that as soon as I click my comment button here.
    Love your garden idea where your art/project barn is surrounded by it all. And your zinnas look mighty fine. Did you start them with seed? Or buy them at a nursery in a 6 pack containers? Needless to say, the colors are bright, cheery, and speaks "SUMMERTIME".
    1. Hi Anni, I raised my zinnias from seed. I think they do much better that way:) Thanks for stopping by to visit and for leaving a comment. It's the only way I have of knowing who's visiting. Have fun with your pretty red toenails:)
  5. Such a fun and happy post! It is definitely toenail painting weather...:) Mine need a new paint job! I have always thought zinnias to be such a bright and cheery flower. Some day I am going to plant some for a cutting garden. I love the beautiful butterfly pix and can't wait to see how the chair turns out! Have a blessed and beautiful Independence Day! Hugs, Vicky
    1. Hi Vicky, Happy 4th of July to you, too! I'm excited about my chair, I have wanted to try painting a fabric chair for a long time now, but never found one that I would want to do it on. I love zinnias and last year I read where your vegetable gardens do better when you have zinnias and sunflowers planted in the garden or near by. The bees have a ball pollinating between the flowers and the veggies. I've found that zinnias hold up very well in vases too. I've had a bouquet last for two weeks before needing to be throw out. Thanks for stopping by, I love reading your posts and comments.
    1. Thanks you. I have been going around and watering the garden and boxes everyday and each session of the yard two or three time a week. I just don't want to loose anything. There are so many yards and fields around here that are so dry and dead, that the fireworks that people shoot off are a real concern. They have banded the shooting of them in the city limits, but we are about a half mile out of the limits. I know there will be field fires this year . . . I just want my yard green; I'm hoping that will help :)
    1. Hi Nancy, I have some that I planted earlier than these and they are only a forth the size of these . . .it's a mystery to me why some do that much better than the others. I'm sure that there are a lot of veritables, soil contain, amount of shade and sun, other plants with stronger root systems sucking up more of the water and nutrients. Who knows? Those by the Art Barn are so pretty. I'm already picking them for my kitchen window:) Happy 4th of July!
    1. I love summer foot wear, I do have to be careful because my heels came become very crackled in the summer. Our hot dry climate doesn't help with that. Tonight is the 4th and there will be fireworks everywhere. We will be staying home with sprinkles going along the back of our property. The property behind us has not been being watered and has got knee high dry dead grass . . . perfect for spreading a fire. This is a year that we will be happy to see the fourth come and go, because after the fourth it is unlawful to shoot fireworks. Most people that have any leftover, save them for New Years Eve. As for us we do not buy them or shoot them off . . .but save it for the fire department in town, where it is supervised. We do set out on the porch and watch the skies . . . I still enjoy seeing them and think that they are pretty, but every year there are bad fires started because of them and sometimes people loose there homes. When I was a kid, all fireworks were limited to the town parks. The way it should be.
  11. Thank you for the lovely tour around your beautiful garden, Connie - you can send me one of your watermelons all the way to the UK once they are ripe lol! I love watermelons!!! Your flowers are all so pretty, and the beautiful butterfly too. The new chair project is exciting, and I look forward to seeing what you do with it on top of the white base coat. Your country cottage is always so full of interest and fun! With each visit I feel as if I have trotted down the road for a visit! You and I could sit and chat over a nice cup of tea in the sunshine! I am so glad you are finding time for a bit of self-indulgence to paint your toenails lol! So pretty!
    Thank you for your lovely visit and your sweet comment. Yesterday's treatment was similar to #2 in that I felt the effects while it was still being infused, and I've felt pretty rough since, but not as bad as last time since they reduced the dose - I was even able to spend an hour or two in the studio this a.m. and finished a card I'd started a couple of days ago, using some of my new masterboard. Once the glue is dry, it can be posted. Very pleased with the result! I'm glad you like my new stamps. I'm not as organised as I'd like, yet - as you probably find with your wonderful Craft Barn, there's always more you can do to make it easier to work in! The trouble is, I'm such a messy worker, and should be more disciplined about putting things away so that I can find them!
    Have a great weekend.
    1. I am so disorganized that I don't remember what I brought with me when we moved. Some of my crafting things I put into our big moving sale and some I packed and brought to your new place. My trouble is I can't remember what I got rid of and what I kept, so I spend time hunting, LOL. We lived in our old house (newer than this one) for thirty three years and I accumulated a lot of stuff. After weeks of packing and unpacking, I just got tried and started hauling things to the yard for our big sale. After the sale we donated what was left to the Senior Citizens Center . . . there was a moving van full of leftovers. It felt so freeing, but I have missed a few of the things that I tossed out. I hope they all found good homes, LOL.
      Do come back, I will be posting my finished chair on my next post.
      Have a great day!
      Connie :)
    1. Hi Melanie, I hope that you are having a nice 4th of July. It is so hot here that we don't even want to be outside for very long. It was 105 yesterday and it has cooled down to a HOT 103 today! I will be so glad when this hot spell is over:)
  14. Thank you for your lovely message, I have missed you :) Your garden is beautiful but I bet it takes a lot of watering during the heat wave. My children loaded up an account at a local beauty parlour for my last birthday , so on Thursday I am going to have a facial and a pedicure so I too will have pretty summer toenails. I must admit I am not much good at doing my nails myself, I get nail varnish everywhere! Speak soon xxxxx
