First Quilt of 2019

First quilt of 2019

The back was made of large scraps.

I hand-quilted this except for the boarder.
It's so very soft and comfy.

I find that hand-quilting makes them softer.

Now on to another . . .
that's what I do in the winter
when the cold winds blow :)

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

    1. Quilting helps me get through the cold winter months when getting outside is just too cold. It's a lovely hobby and helps keep our family warm :)

  2. What fun different prints.

I have squares cut out, but I haven't started a quilt yet in 2019. I like hand quilting, but my fingers say they prefer to have me quilt by machine.

    1. I know that feeling, but after the injury on my right hand, I have to use it even when it hurts or it will freeze up on me. Therefore; doing a hand-quilting project every 3 or 4 quilts, helps exercise those old joints of mine, LOL. Looking forward to seeing your quilt:)

  3. Lovely, your quilt looks as soft as you describe it. I prefer hand quilting for that very reason and rarely use the machine.

    1. Hand quilting takes longer, but the softness is unbelievable. That and the fact that it helps me in exercising my right hand. After a year of therapy; I do not want to loose the movement that I painfully worked so hard to get back. Happy Quilting!

    1. I don't think that I have even used black in a quilt before, but it turned out to be a good punch among all the different colored squares. Black is just harder to work with for me . . . harder to see what I'm doing.

  10. Oh, I love your new quilt, Connie. It oozes such happy and sunny charm. The fabrics you have chosen are lovely. I loved how you have used up lots of your scrap stash. I too, love hand quilting. It always makes quilts softer and I love the squishy squashy-ness of a hand quilted pretty. A beautiful finish.....onto your next lovely quilt.....have fun♥

    1. I've already got another almost half none . . . winter is my quilting season. Spring is coming and gardening will start . . . I have so much quilting that I want to get done, before my time is spent outside. Oh, how I would love a 36 hour day once in a while, LOL. Thank you for your very sweet comment.

    1. Betsy, you are too sweet . . . don't look too close, I'm not that good, but I do love the feel of a hand-quilted quilt. There is a comfort to sitting and working on any hand stitched project. I know that you know what I'm talking about:)

  13. I find it interesting that hand quilting makes for a softer quilt. This first quilt of the year is very colouful and cozy-looking.

    1. There is certainly a difference between one that has been machine stitched and one that has been hand-quilted.

    1. This quilt has got a lot of different fabrics . . . I think they have more of a homey feel. I'm still working on mixing fabric and colors . . . sometimes I restrict myself too much. I admire the quilters that can truly mix totally different patterns, I'm working to be freer with my choices. That's a goal that I'm setting for myself. Your comments are so encouraging, thank you.

  17. What a gorgeous quilt Connie! Already one done in 2019! Amazing! I love the fun colors you chose, and the fact you hand quilted it really adds to the charm of this quilt! I have just signed up for my first quilting block class next week, and I can't wait. Quilts truly bring so much joy, especially knowing they have been lovingly handmade! You are always very busy creating :) Blessings!

    1. How fun to be taking a class. I'm sure you will make some sweet new fiends. Most of my learning has been from You Tube, but many years ago I had a friend and her mother (also a friend) put my first quilt on a frame in her living-room, one of those that takes up the whole room when the furniture in moved back against the walls. They worked with me and taught me the basics of hand-quilting. It's a great and warm memory.

  20. Hi Connie, Congratulations on getting another quilt done. Too much going on for me to get much sewing done lately and I am feeling the tiredness and stress tonight so that means I had better rest more and get caught up on my energy again. I am working on a quilt though when I get to sew a seam or two and also knitting a couple rows on a dish cloth now and then. Have a fun time sewing up a storm! Nancy

    1. Thanks! I hope that you find some time for quilting this winter . . . it brings me much pleasure. There is an enjoyment to putting all the different pieces together and seeing how they look all finished. That and having something warm and cozy to wrap up in or give to a loved one:) Happy quilting, sweet friend.

  23. It looks terrific, and always feels good to use up scraps you have. I do enjoy hand quilting but haven't done it on my last two quilts because I had to get them done quicker than I can hand quilt. I need to organize my room better so that I have room to do more quilting. I am lucky to get one done a year.

    1. One a year is not bad at all . . . there are so many things we all want to do and so little time:) After you are retired and winter comes around, it gets a little boring, so having quilts to work on has been my winter passion, nothing boring about working on them.
