A week or two ago Granny Marigold
had a post about the old fashioned charm
of painted kitchen cabinets
and how she loved that look.
She also stated that her husband
thought it a crime to paint
over oak cabinets.
I thought it would be fun
to look for some very charming country
style kitchens in wood grain to show her.
So, Granny Marigold this post

I thought every one of these kitchens
had a lovely warm charm about them.
Well that's my post for today.
Sometimes I think if you
do a few simple things,
like purchase new cupboard hardware,
kitchen rugs, and curtains,
you can make a huge difference
without spending too much money.
Amazon is a great place
to find cabinet hardware at low prices.
That's where I bought
the new cabinet and drawer handles
for my kitchen and bathroom.

Although my kitchen is white painted, I do love the look of the plain wood units. You certainly found some beauties! I'm sure Granny Marigold will enjoy looking at them, for inspirtaion maybe!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought. Sometimes a little inspiration to just tweak a few things in our existing kitchen to change it up a little. Little bits of change can be refreshing.

DeleteI love the natural wood tones and have never been one to paint much. I have white cabinets here but lots of wood furniture throughout my house. I never get tired of the wood tones. Hugs!

DeleteOh Connie! You are so sweet 💖. I like all those kitchens. I do hope I didn't sound like I didn't like my existing cupboards. I feel so blessed to have the house that my DH built for our growing family 47 years ago!! When I was growing up I never thought I'd have such a home. But, as you know, we sometimes like to "update" our rooms :) and you've given me lots of ideas.
ReplyDeleteI'm delighted that I could inspire you. Loving what the Lord has blessed us with is gratefulness. Adding small touches is just a way of celebrating the goodness of blessings, whether it be a fresh picked bouquet on the table, new curtains or a new table runner. Enjoy!
DeleteThe kitchens certainly have a warm feeling. Our previous home was a "Lockward home", all timber, including all the internal walls. It had such a warm glow to it, a lovely home indeed, but it certainly did creek first thing in the morning when you got up!

DeleteThose were all beautiful kitchens, and I would love them all. Except I am not fond of the open shelving look for kitchens. I had an open shelf in our last house, and I had to keep dusting things on it all the time...and in the kitchen there is often grease in the air which makes the dust stick to anything. I prefect the glass front doors on some of the top cabinets to display things rather than the open shelves. My current kitchen has glass doors on all of my upper cabinets. I didn't plan that, the house came that way, but I like it. My kids just painted their kitchen cabinets, but they were in need of refreshing and the color they chose looks very nice and has brightened up what was a very dark and drab kitchen. I showed some pictures in one of my more recent posts. Thank you for this interesting post. I enjoyed looking at all of those kitchens!

ReplyDeleteI have painted cabinets, too. I've wanted an all white kitchen since the mid 60's and finally have one, LOL. It took me long enough. I had a landlady back then that had an all white kitchen and every season she would change her curtains, rugs and towels and completely change the white kitchen into a seasonal one. I remember thinking how cool that was. There's something about wood cabinets too that is really warm. There's a warmth to wood that you don't get from paint no matter what color you paint them.
DeleteThese are all beautiful kitchens! I still have 1980's oak cabinets, lol. Keep saying I'll have them painted "one day", but who knows, maybe not. I DO need new kitchen countertops and a backsplash though!

DeleteWow those Kitchens were awesome. There were a couple that I really loved. Open shelving scare me. LOL Sometimes my shelves get a tad messy. But I've seen kitchens that are painted that do have lots of charm and warmth. It's all a personal preference. I have Knotty Alder cabinets with a nice stain but my island was painted white and then antiqued.. So I got a bit of both.
ReplyDeleteI agree about open shelving. I think it looks pretty but the fact that kitchen dust gets greasy and tacky, I really don't need the extra work.
DeleteI love several of those warm inviting kitchens but I like painted kitchens too. I have the best of both worlds. I have stained Knotty Alder wood cabinets but my island was painted white then stained making it look antiqued. I almost had my cabinets painted when they were built but the wood my husband wanted was too pretty to paint. Besides the fact I couldn't decide what color to paint. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt's a big decision. When we bought our "old house" the cabinets were painted a dark moss green, I couldn't wait to paint them, LOL
DeleteBeautiful examples of wooden cabinets, that is what we have but I need to find a good cleaner to get some of the greasy spots off the cupboards around my stove without hurting the wood finish :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a good suggestion, my favorite household cleaner for my kitchen is a generic glass cleaner from Home Depot. I use it on counters, cabinets, glass top range as well as windows.

ReplyDeleteI think wooden cabinets are so beautiful and have such a traditional warmth. I have painted ones, but I was thinking of stripping the bottom to add that warmth back in my space...thanks for the lovely inspiration pictures!
ReplyDeleteHi Connie.....I love all those kitchens, though I do also love white kitchen cabinets. I've always wanted white ones, but it'll be up to ME to paint them! My current home has a mossy green which I really don't like. When I bought it, the realtor photos looked like they were a light apple green and I really liked that color! But what I got us not that! I do like the look of open cabinets on one wall, with pretty dishes and knock knacks. And love the wallpaper behind. The warm winds do look so cozy too. I'll take any, if they are my own! I'm so grateful to have my own home. One of these days, I may start painting mine. I just got some primer, so it's in my mind more and more. Have a lovely Sunday!!! I'm down in Terrebonne visiting my sister and her new home. Has been 14 months since hers burned down. Hugs....Marilyn
