As the days start getting longer
I start thinking about gardening.
The weather is much too cold
to do anything yet
but I can plan and start
a few seeds inside.
to do a garden journal.
I haven't done one
in several years,
it is fun and it's a good way
to record what worked
and what didn't work.
I purchase some seeds
And I save some.
I'm cutting the size
of my garden way down this year.
Instead of rows I redid
the whole garden and made four
small beds leaving room
for a small fountain and a bench.
I did this last fall.
can you believe it I used
42 bags of beauty mulch!
Well that's what I've
been doing as I dream of Spring.
I love going out in the backyard
and picking fresh vegetables
and I love watching the process
from seed, to tiny sprout, to fruitful plant.
Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow;
they neither toil nor spin,
yet I tell you,
not even Solomon in all his glory
was arrayed like one of these.

It's so wonderful to dream of Spring! We can't wait to see things start popping up. Right now everything is still under at least 6 inches of snow. I love your journal!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mari, the weather is so crazy this year, we haven't had any snow ( at least none that stuck to the ground and stayed . . . Just a few flurries. I actually got outside today and raked some of my winter leaves away.
DeleteWell in the meantime I love your watercolor garden, Connie! You are quite the srtist!
ReplyDeleteThat's just silly doodling, but thank you. It is fun 😊
DeleteThose seedlings will be ready before you know it...
ReplyDeleteI hope so, I had to replant my large yellow slicing tomatoes, I don't know why they didn't sprout like the little pear tomatoes did.
DeleteHi Connie! I love, love, love the artwork in your garden journal. It's so sweet and creative and a great way to keep track of things. It was 74F here today and we were thinking of going camping here next week and save money on diesel driving farther away. I just heard that snow is predicted for Thursday! We have only had about 1 1/2 inches all winter and it was gone the next day. It's been the strangest winter I can remember. Our friends in Spokane say the same. We'll have to wait and see what our camping plans for March will be. Hubby put the batteries in the camper yesterday and we were going to start loading things in it on Thursday, but not if it's snowing. Ha!
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
Camping sounds fun but be sure you head out in the right direction because some of this country is having terrible Winters. I'm so glad that after all your procedures that you're feeling well enough to go camping that is certainly a blessing. ❤️
DeleteYour garden journal is amazing just like your garden will be after you get it going. I wish I could garden but I'm just very bad at it.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm very bad at growing plants inside the house. I just can't seem to keep them alive, but when it comes to gardening outside in the fresh air and sunshine I do just fine. We all have things we're good at and things were not. Wouldn't it be boring if we all were good at the same things.
DeleteIt feels like we skipped winter here and went straight to spring already. I have been noticing the birds going absolutely crazy outside like they are announcing it for us. (:
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about the birds this morning. I have a robin that comes each year and wants to nest up in the . corner of my front porch and makes a terrible mess. We have been fighting back and forth for that corner of property for the last 3 years. I've tried rubber snakes and peppermint and they didn't work but last year I put up a rubber owl in that corner and they stayed away. I have trees all over the place that they could build their nests in. I don't want them pooping on my front porch. Mind you I love the birds, I love to hear them sing and I love to watch them build their nests. Just not in a place that I want to relax.
DeleteThanks for popping in and visiting and leaving a comment, I love reading them.
Hi Connie- your four plot garden is terrific and I like the Book you have written and illustrated- well done. Years ago I had a large vegetable plot and about the only thing I had no success with was potatoes. All the best. KEV.
ReplyDeleteGardening can be so relaxing even though it's hard work and so beneficial with all the fresh veggies. I love going in my backyard to do my grocery shopping and knowing that I don't put pesticides on them. 😊
DeleteI have kept a garden journal for several years, and fins it so useful to check on dates of planting....and results.
ReplyDeleteI think your right, because I wonder about things that I've done before and have no record. I think this is going to be a fun and helpful experience.
DeleteA garden journal sounds like a nice idea. Hard to think of spring here yet with snow on the ground. :) Love the picture of the humming bird.
ReplyDeleteThat humming bird photo is the absolute favorite of any that I've ever taken, thank you 🥰💖🤗
DeleteI am dreaming of spring, too! Can't wait to start gardening - both veggies (we just do a few pots) and flowers.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a wonderful feeling to pick veggies for dinner that you've grown yourself . . . I love it!
DeleteI am dreaming of spring too but I will probably buy plants this year. I am cutting back too! Your journal is so cute, I did one last year too, will probably continue it :)
ReplyDeleteDid you post pictures of your journal last year? I would love to see them.
DeleteThere is something hopeful about planning a garden while the air is still cold. A journal is a wise idea, those notes become a quiet record of lessons learned and blessings gathered. Your smaller beds with space for a fountain and bench sound especially inviting. Tending a garden has a way of steadying the heart as much as the hands.
ReplyDeleteI’ve shared the first post for the Movement Link-Up to encourage everyone to join in, and it will remain open until Monday, so there is still time to share your post.
I love reading your comments as well as your posts. You have a lovely way with words, a bit poetic 🥰
DeleteA garden journal sounds wonderful… I wish you much success and, above all, much joy…
ReplyDeleteEverything here is covered in snow, but it won't be long before the first snowdrops bloom, as they appear as early as the end of February, and perhaps the crocuses will bloom in March… because today it's raining on the snow.
Warm regards, Viola
It's cold and rainy here today too. Planning the garden from inside my cozy little warm home is a way of enjoying Spring before it's actually here 🌱🌺🌿
DeleteJust dropping by to say hi. Like you, my hands are itching to get into the garden soil. We have couple of large Swiss chard plants that give us a wonderful pot of greens every now and then --when the soil is not too muddy to get into the garden. :) Daylight Saving time starts March 8 --can spring be far behind? :) Keep warm. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteI love daylight savings and longer days. Somehow longer days give me more energy. 🥬🌷🐛🐣🥀
DeleteGood luck with your garden. I had a spot on the community garden a few years ago in our area, it was lots of fun. Got lots of tomatoes and other good veggies. Wish you the best with your garden this year. Thanks for the visit and comment.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your good wishes. 🌱
DeleteOh you will have such a beautiful garden. I love vegetables right from the garden. I have a tiny space, but I plant my favorites.
ReplyDeleteNothing beats picking vegetables and an hour later their on the table. It doesn't get any fresher than that.
DeleteOh, I know your garden will be overflowing with goodness and beauty and wonderful food! And I love the idea of the bench and fountain in the middle of your garden...a little spot to sit and refresh yourself after your hard work, and then to just admire the beauty of it all as it grows and flourishes! I wish I were a gardener...I love fresh vegies from the garden...but I am not able to do the work to make it grow...the digging, weeding, bending over...and I am probably just too lazy! But you do inspire me to at least think about it and dream!! Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteYou could grow a few veggies in big flowers pots and place them next to your back porch by your lovely pond.🌱

ReplyDeleteI love your journal. I've kept a journal for the past few years but hadn't thought to make the pages pretty. I will from now on. Xx
Yay! Happy that I could inspire you.

DeleteI love your garden journal! Maybe I'll incorporate some of that in my art journal.
ReplyDeleteGlad that I could inspire you. I'm really looking forward to gardening this year. I truly enjoy getting my hands in the soil and I love watching the garden grow. 🌱🌱🌱
DeleteOh ! I absolutely love the things you do ! God Bless you dear Connie 💐🌤️🕊️ x
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you so much 🤗
DeleteOh Connie, I'm WAY behind on my comments! I stopped in today to see if you'd posted, and you have two new ones! I never get notified, so I just come and check in, when I'm thinking of you! Wow.. you really ARE thinking ahead and planning! I'm nowhere near ready to think of gardening or anything. I just don't have that "want to" yet. I probably will once we get some nice warm spring days, then I feel like going to the nursery and buying plants! Your new garden plan looks so darling and fun.. love the plan for a bench to sit and look at all your hard work, and a fountain. Fountains are so wonderful and make sure that bench is by the fountain so you can listen to that trickling water on those hot summer days. I had one in Madras and loved it so much. Sadly, I left it there. And your garden journal is so pretty. I love your drawings and paintings. I kept a few over the years, when I had big huge gardens, but haven't for many years. I don't plant enough really, to need one. Not sure what I'm planting this year, just maybe some Walla Walla Sweet onions, as those did well, maybe one plant of tomatoes as they totally took over my garden bed last year (I only planted two!). Not sure what else. I'm going to go over and comment on your newest post! Hugs... Marilyn
ReplyDeleteHere's to happy gardeners everywhere. We are the mini farmers of this age. Growing a few veggies and enjoying the freshness that you only get from a garden, where you can pick something and have it on your dinner plate in less than an hour. That's freshness😋Yum.
