Trees are like old friends
and it's sad to see them go . . .
but sometimes it's the right thing.
They have gotten to a point
where it is dangerous
to leave them up.
One good storm and they
could take out our's
or the neighbor's house.
All of this mess is from
one tree . . .
one down and three to go.
On my next post
I'll send you and after
photo. 🥲
Until then . . .
God bless you all.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

Oh man, it really is sad to see them go. But you're right - sometimes it's the smart thing to do.
ReplyDeleteSad but needed.
DeleteIt's always sad to see a tree come down. But sometimes, it's necessary. Think of all the joy they've given you over the years.
ReplyDeleteYour right, these had some rot in some of the limbs. When I was taking photos I noticed it in some large branches. They were getting to be I hazardous.
DeleteThat is sad. I have one in the front yard that should probably be taken down but I just hate to do it.
ReplyDeleteI know. I hated doing this too, but in the long run it is the best. My trees were getting old and had some hollow places and rotting within some of the branches. It will be good that I won't have to deal with all the leaves each Fall, the older I get the more work that becomes. So, I guess it's all good in the long run :)
DeleteHi Connie.. it's sad to see those beautiful trees go! They have been the sentinals of your yard for so many years, and in so many photos you've had on your blog! Goodbye friends indeed! When Mac and I bought the house in Madras, there was a huge tree in the front yard that had died, but thee trunk and brances were a beautiful blond color and still looked so pretty in the rock flower bed, plus shaded the front yard. Finally though, a big November wind blew it over! We knew it should have been taken down but just hated to do it. So I'm sure you know when it's time for those trees, if you've been seeing the hollow parts and some rot. It's always sad though and it'll look so bare for awhile. I know you wont' miss raking the leaves though! I think we still have a few weeks of nice Fall blue sky and sunny days weather, so enjoy it! Sorry I missed your other posts! Hugs.. Marilyn
ReplyDeleteI've been watching him all day cutting down the trees. It is a huge job. He's taking down the four in the front, getting the dead out of five pine trees and then cutting the limbs of a neighbor's tree that are hanging over my fence. 😊
DeleteConnie, it's fun to watch! When I lived in Madras, a neighbor had a very TALL tree cut down! I watched the 2 guys climb way to the top (must have been at least 100 feet) and hang there from ropes and use a chain saw to start at the top and cut chunks out little by little. Sure took my breath away watching them! I got it on video and that is even fun to watch a few years later! xoxo Marilyn
DeleteIt is fun to watch. My lawn looks like a tornado came through it. I will be glad when it's all cleaned up and hauled away.
DeleteOh, how sad! I can well imagine how hard that was for you to do, but I do understand how dangerous those big old trees can be. Wow. Your yard will certainly look different. Maybe you can plant some new trees in their place.
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but I'm going to live with this for a while to see how I feel about not having anything there.
DeleteIt's amazing how empty a space looks when a big tree is taken down. My garden is now flooded with light after a neighbour reduced the size of his tree.
ReplyDeleteI know, when this is finished and everything is clean and cleared out it's going to look very empty, but also bright with sunshine. I'm very fortunate that my porch is on the east side so it will still be shady in the afternoon because the house shaves it. 🥰
DeleteOh Connie, that must have been hard.
ReplyDeleteI went over to my neighbors today and I couldn't believe how open the view is now between us. I stood at her kitchen window looking over at my yard and I was amazed.
DeleteWhen I read the title of your post today I thought you were going to quit blogging and that made me sad. Luckily it's trees that have had to go. It always feels sad when I venerable old tree gets cut down.
ReplyDeleteVery sad, but these we're diseased and rotting on the inside. Just waiting for a good wind storm to blow them over. That would have been tragic because they would have done damage to my house or the neighbor's or even both.
DeleteIt is sad to see a grand old tree cut down.
ReplyDeleteAt first, when I saw the title of your post, I thought you were going to tell us that it was you quitting blogging. Glad you're not.
Blogging has been so good to me. I would think for a long time before quitting . . . I might at some point slow down but hopefully not quit. When my Steve was going through chemo I had bloggers all over the world praying for him, even one blogger's entire church was praying for him and when I told him he absolutely beamed. It was a great comfort and encouragement in our time of pain. There is a sisterhood here 🥰
DeleteOh, I hate that, but I would also hate a tree landing on me, so...
ReplyDeleteThese were very big and very close to the house . . . If they were to fall in a storm it could have taken out our house or our neighbors. It's nice to have that worry over with.
DeleteYes, sometimes trees have to go and it does make me sad! We have recently had to do the same thing around our farm.
ReplyDeleteThe tree is a beautiful thing ♥️
DeleteOh so sad, but I understand worrying about them falling with a storm. Our neighbors have a very big one that would probably take out our house.
ReplyDeleteIt's a big worry. During our last huge storm I spent most of the night in prayer. I felt like afterwards the Lord had answered my prayer and now it was my turn to take action and be responsible, before it happened again.
DeleteHate to see big trees cut down but glad it's the trees and not you saying good bye. We should have had many cut down when we built the house but didn't. Now I worry every time there is a storm.
ReplyDeleteThat was my concern and I'm glad because I've discovered rot in some of the trunks and branches after he cut into them.
DeleteWe have some trees that I know we need to say goodbye to as well. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to do . . . not cheap either..
DeleteHi Connie, wow, what a project! The trees are beautiful for sure, but really big ones, near the house can sure be a disaster if a storm takes them down. Your wisdom is on display again as the trees come down. It is always a pleasure stopping by Crafty Home Cottage. For most of the first half of this year, instead of blogging, I spent time online watching the Bald Eagle nest near Big Bear Lake, California. The nest activity was streamed on YouTube 24/7. I just got completely fascinated with watching two Bald Eagles bring two little Eaglets into this world and watching those little ones grow up enough to fly away. I did post a few times about the whole story. Now … coming up to more recent times … thank you so much for the kind words in your comment on my latest post. It always makes me smile to see a comment from you. I love the story you shared about you and Steve and the Captain and the sailboat on Elliott Bay. I’d love to share a cup of coffee with you and hear more about that day! A sweet memory for sure. Well, it is sunny and cool over here today which is a welcome change from the hot, smoky days of July and August. And just think … Fall starts on Tuesday, the 22nd. I’ll be looking forward to another visit to the Cottage when you report on the “after” when the trees are all gone. Peace and joy to you! John
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely comment John. It's always a treat when you visit and I love reading what you have to say here and of course your blog and posts. Eagles are so majestic and beautiful I can easily see how you got caught up in watching them.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're having a lovely week and enjoying the cooler weather, I certainly am. We had so much smoke in the air this summer and now it's clear and crisp again. I love September!
It's hard to see old trees being cut down or even trimmed. We had workers coming around the neighborhood, and this time just a couple of my trees were trimmed because they were too close to the power lines. I hope this will be better for you when those fierce storms hit. The older trees can tell so many stories from the people sitting under them.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a blessed September week.
I used to have a tire swing in it for our granddaughters, then later a hammock swing that I love sitting in. I do enjoy a swing and will miss it. Also the music from the birds, watching the squirrels and of course the shade.
DeleteHow sad! But understandable. We have one that we really need to deal with, another that needs a good trim. So sorry you are losing your shade though.
ReplyDeleteMe too, the shade will be missed. Raking the leave won't be😄
DeleteHello Connie, so sad- but wise. They didn’t seem to be rotted in the center. Was it because they were large?
ReplyDeleteActually there was a lot of rot in the center, much more than I realized. I'll show photos in my next post.
DeleteIt is so sad to have to lay down such beautiful trees. But indeed better to be proactive than reactive. They are truly like losing old friends!
ReplyDeleteYes they are. I already miss the morning songs from the birds that sang from their branches.
