A Road Trip to Dry Falls Lake...& Barn Sale

Steve (my hubby) and I decided to  throw a picnic
together and head out for a day of sunshine and adventure.
Our destination was Dry Falls Lake and area that at one time (ice ages)
was a waterfall larger than Niagara Falls.
Today it is a group of small lakes and desert area and one of God's magnificent masterpieces.

This is our "Butchy", it is pretty hard to leave him at home.
Butch lives for road trips, and when they include a picnic,
he is in doggy heaven.

This is Dry Falls Lake
from above where the lookout and tourist station is.

Another view from the top.
You can see are the cliffs, where the waterfall flowed down to the bottom.

I have a fascination with the way lichen
grows and colors the rocks.
I may have enhanced some of these photos,
but not this one.
I wanted to show you some of the brilliant hues in God's palette.

The lake is designated for fly fishing only.
Steve and I have never gotten into fly-fishing, but I think it might be something I'd like to learn.

Another view from the top.

On the way home we saw a sign "Barn Sale".
So, we followed the signs posted along a country road that lead us here.

These were our great bargains finds.
I think we scored big, what do you think?
I can't wait to use this pretty divided platter.

I purchased two vintage table cloths.
They will be so pretty on my
back-porch dining table this summer.

This was Steve's purchase,  Yum . . . I love corn bread and I'm sure he'll use this the next time he makes up a pot of his soul satisfying  chili.

Steve has some great shot of Dry Falls Lake, taken from down in the valley and at the lake.  If you've ready for a bit more of your day's road trip please visit his blog, at:

I know he would welcome your company.

    1. Our part of the world does look a lot different from your green pastures and rain. On the photos of the horses, in your current post, it looks like you have blackberries growing wild on your property. Yum! I really enjoy my visits to your site, very interesting. Connie :)

    1. The desert takes on so many different looks, depending on the time of year. I do believe that spring is the prettiest. The barn sale was great. The owner was selling her farm and buying a smaller home in town, so she was getting rid of a lot of her collections. We got there at the end of the sale, so no telling what treasures there were to be had. Then there is Butchy. He came to be part of your little family just about a month after I retired. That was two years ago. He is a sweetie and such good company. Thank you for this lovely visit, do come again, and have a great day, Connie :)

  3. First thanks for visiting my blog. It is always nice to meet new friends. I see we have the same out look on life. Your photo's of this fascinating place are fantastic. I have to ask what kind of doggy is Butchy? I have a Bichon that looks a lot like you Butchy. Your plate purchases are beautiful. They just don't make them like that anymore, do they. I have many of my mothers and I like to mix them up for table settings. I shall be #227 on your followers. Have a wonderful week.

    1. Hi Sharon, I'm so glad that you came over for a visit. Thank you for the nice comments on my photos. Butchy is a mutt, I found him in an ad in the Nickel Saver. He is part miniature poodle and they said part chihuahua. He's our baby. He has a blanket that he sleeps on at the foot of our bed right next to my feet. I have not had cold feet in two year LOL. Besides being a good little boy; he does not shed, which to me is an A+.
I also like to set a table with a mix of old dishes, especially when the menu is a meat and potato meal like I grew up on (something mom would have served). I'm looking forward to becoming blogging friends and sharing ideas and art. Connie :)

    1. Yep! He is a good looking cowboy and he loves road trips. It was a great day and just so nice to get away from the house for a while. I love my home, but there is always a chore waiting somewhere calling my name . . . sometimes it's nice to just leave it all behind for the day. Have a great week and thanks for dropping by, Connie :)

    1. Linda, thank so much for the visit, I love getting company. The barn sale was an unexpected surprise that day, and I might say a very nice one. We were only about 30 or 40 miles from home on that little trip, just a nice spring drive. Have a great week, Connie :)

  6. Looks like you really had a good time and some cool finds from that trip. Butchie is so cute. We used to have a little white one quite similar, but maybe a bit smaller. She died of old age and I miss her alot after 15 years. In Spain right now redoing visa for Ukraine. I hope to post some such travel pictures soon too.

    1. I will be looking forward to your photos of your Spain trip. It is so much fun to travel with my blogging friends. Butchy is bigger than he should be. He should weigh between 10 and 12 pounds and he weighs in at 16. He loves food and gives me that sad, "feed me" look when I'm cooking . . . I have to stop giving in to him. Have a safe trip, Connie :)

    1. Hi Lisa, Yes it is gorgeous country, our dear Lord sure knew what he was doing. His master-pieces surely out shine any you find in an art museum.
I do love the table cloths and have one on my porch table right now. I remember my Mom having one she bought in Florida, that was a state map (oh, how I wish I had it, but no telling what ever happened to it). I remember sitting at the table looking at the names and locations of cities and all around the map were pictures of flowers, birds, alligators, etc. They made such pretty table cloths in the 30, 40, and 50's. Then they kind of faded out of popularity. Thank you for stopping by, I wish I could offer you a cup of morning coffee or a cup of tea. Have a fabulous week, Connie :)

    1. Jane, Steve and I were just talking about you. I know that we only know each other from blogging, and that has even been for a short time. We don't know how this happens, because there is about one chance in a gazillion that we would ever meet in person, but we feel a close connection with you. We wish we could invite you to our next barbecue, feed you some good food, and give you a warm and friendly hug before we send you home for the evening. You just seem like a gal that I would love to have as a neighbor. Blogging is so much more than I thought it would be. I did not expect to make friends, I just thought I'd make crafts and post them in hopes that someone would like them. Instead I'm finding that there are so many sweet people out there and that long distance friendships can be very heart felt. I know in my heart that you are one very special lady. Thanks for this visit . . . I hope you didn't get bored and stop reading . . . have an amazing day. Connie :)

    1. I am so happy to see you here. I am very happy that you can travel with me on my little road trips, by way of internet. I also see that we both are singers. I can not image a day without music. I always have a song going through my head, and sometimes I don't even realize that I'm singing. I've been in the grocery store shopping and have someone comment on my voice, or start singing with me. I am a firm believer in singing, dancing, laughing out loud, and greeting everyone I make eye contact with, whether I know them or not. Life is too short to not turn it into a joyous occasion, every chance we get. I am looking very forward to becoming good blogging mates. Toodle-loo until next time, Connie :)
