Re-purposed Denim ~ Free Motion Embroidery

It all started with this photo.
I wanted to try embroidery from a photo,
so Butchy was my inspiration :)

I cropped the photo, made it a black and white,
and then blew it up.
After printing it and putting it on the light box,
I traced the lines that I thought would
make a good embroidery pattern.

Next I put a piece of iron on Pellon
to the back to give it a little stability.
Then I started my free motion embroidery
on the sewing machine.
All that you need to do this is a darning foot,
and drop your feed dogs.

Then I used my fabric paints to paint it.

The next day after it was dry I started
quilting it to some denim fabric saved from
an old jean skirt.

 Added Ric-Rac . . .

Stitched the front and back pillow cover together,

And Viola, a Butchy Pillow.

 Well, that was fun!

Just a few photos taken from
inside the house
& out the front & back doors.

  Baby it's cold outside!

My sweet husband suggested
that I go tobogganing in my kayak, LOL.

Road Trip Banner Blues

♬ Road Trip Banner Blues ♪♪

Another banner . . .
this one has a Road Trip Theme.

 I love re-purposing old jeans.

This week I started three
jean re-purposing projects,
today I'm showing my banner.

This is the center flag.

I think this would look wonderful
hung under the awning of a camper.

Well, this was fun . . .
you can make so many great things
with old jeans.
So don't throw them out,
just get creative:)

P.S. Doesn't it make you want to pack
a suitcase and gas up the car?

"A Banner" and a "Before & After"

Taking a break from quilting.

I just needed to do something different.
So I used some quilting scraps
and made a banner.

I was looking at this little foot stool.
I purchased it at Goodwill
last summer, with the intention
of doing something with it.

I just wasn't sure what I would do . . .

until today :)

It is always fun . . .

Giving something old a facelift
&
using scraps to make something new.

What did you do this weekend?

Painting, Quilting & Ripping Out

Some days you should never
sit down at the sewing machine.
Look at this mess . . .
I'll be ripping stitches all night.

This is my latest toy . . . it magnifies,
has a light and swivels and is wonderful,
because I am in the early stages of cataracts.
I have not had to rip stitches
for a very long time, until I purchased this.

So is it a fluke, a coincidence or just bad luck
that in the last two days I have had to rip out stitches
in a quilt that I'm working on.

Before I show you what I've been working on . . .
I want to thank Nancy at
 Cozy Thyme Cottage
When I opened the Christmas card that she sent
these lovely gift tags fell out.
Aren't they pretty :)
If you haven't visited Nancy's blog
you can find it here:

I have been having more fun with
my fabric paints and made this chart
for color reference.

And I've finished three more blocks
to be used in a future quilt.

In the last post I had drawn and painted
a Ball jar with flowers . . . so I drew another
and made it a Mason jar :)

I also just finished painting this block.
I think that I will use it to make a pillow cover.

Here I just quilted some crossing stitches
and used them to play around with.

I could make coasters out of them, I guess?

Girls just want to have fun
and that's what I did today.
Not counting the ripping out of stitches
that will occupy my TV watching time, tonight :)

Oh, here's my helper.
He gets a treat when he comes over to the
Art Barn, so he's Johnny on  the spot when
I head out to sew.

It's All Good!
