I Love Paris. Oh, Why Do I Love Paris

Some of you may remember this song.
It was sung by all four of these artists, and more,
and a huge hit in the mid 1950's.

From everything that I have ever heard,
once you visit this city ~ a piece of your heart stays there.
It's the most loved city in the world.

The next few photos are the same page of the book,
but with the heart pages flipped :)

Valentine's Day . . . can you think of a better place to spend it?
My question is:  is Paris the city of lights, or the city of love?

Was her true love him,
or was she caught up in her love of,
All Things French :)

Have a wonderful weekend.
Find love in all the blessings around you.
Love is everywhere  . . .

"I love Steven,
Oh, why do I love Steven . . ."
I should write my own love song.

Here's wishing you a song in your heart,
all weekend long.

French Women And Their Underwear . . . OOOH LA, LA !

No one will call my book about France ordinary,
but then I do not expect the French to be ordinary, do you?

I've had this post stored in my drafts,
and thought it was time to share.

Paris has always been famous for their fashion . . .
whether it be dresses, costume, or lingerie.

Bustles & Corsets
Oh, the things women do to look beautiful :)
Do you see the children hiding under her hoop skirt?
How hard do you think it was to sit down in them?

Look at those tiny waistbands.
My grandmother told me stories of her hanging on to the bedpost,
while her sister would pull her corset stings :)
The French may have come up with this fashion,
but it spread around the world,
and was copied by manufacturers everywhere.
I was fortunate enough to be a young adult when not wearing a bra was the fashion
(except for work and church of course).
Most of the time at home I do not wear one.
I can not imagine being harnessed into a corset each day.

So here's to the comforts of modern under garments,
may they live on through generations to come :)

Well, this was another chapter in my Altered Book ~ All Things French.
A little bit history and a little bit everything else.
I hope you enjoyed.

Have a marvelous day, and stay comfortable :)

Altered Book - All Things French

Some of you will remember me starting this altered book all about France.
I have never been there and probably never will travel there,
but I can dream, and I can research all about this lovely country's
people, landscape, history, food, etc.
This is my adventure into "All Things French".
I hope you enjoy my latest pages :)

Today's post is about two very different women,
with much in common.
* Neither were born in France, but each made France their home.
* Both were discriminated against.
*  Both were told that they could never live their dreams.
*  And both went on to show the world that, YES THEY COULD!

Josephine Baker . . .
the show girl who took Paris by storm.
&
Madame Curie . . .
scientist and Nobel prize winner.

You can click on these pages to make them bigger
and easier to read :)

WOW . . . quite a legacy for a woman born in 1867.

Then there is Josephine born 1906 in St. Louis, MO, USA
(move down before reading, the next photo is larger)

It just goes to show that this woman had much
more going on in her life than entertainment.

Here is a flip book of portraits.

As you can see . . . I have not given up on this book.
I've just gotten busy with outdoor projects.

I hope you enjoyed this post,
and that you will leave a comment.
I get so much pleasure reading what you have to say :)

Altered Book ~ Journey Through France #2

Welcome back for more adventures through France . . .
The Altered Book Version

The Eiffel Tower

Although, it is the pride and joy of Paris; at one time the French people were very opposed to the building of it.
Today the Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous icons of the world.

The French people wanted an impressive monument to be built to celebrate the greatness of France, and to be built by the time of the World’s Fair of 1889. The planning began in 1885 and hundreds of design proposals were submitted. The fair’s commissioner chose Gustave Eiffel’s design, but a petition was signed by over 300 protesting its construction. Some viewed the design to be an eyesore that would overpower the city’s other landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame.  Other’s thought it to be unsafe.
It took three years and three hundred men to build the structure.  Eventually the Parisians fell in love with the tower. During World War I the antenna at the top of the tower was used by the military and was said to have played a part in the capturing of the spy, Mata Hari.

Up until the year of 1930 this famous landmark was the tallest man made structure in the world. Today, Paris just would not be Paris without it.  Who among us could possibly visit the City of Lights, without a visit to the top of the Eiffel Tower?

The most famous Queen of France
(so disliked and so much scandal . . .
who knows how much of this is true and how much is rumor and gossip, that has grown through repeating)

   Off with her head!!!

How would you like to live in a top floor French apartment.
Cool . . .Right?

And at this price . . . not just live there,
but own it!

 Well, that is today's adventure.
A little history,
a little real estate . . .
If you get the chance to actually get on a plane and travel to France . . .  be nice
and

send me a postcard :)

I hope that you enjoyed your visit,

Bon Voyage,

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
