Why, because:
you can use any mixture of colors,
you can experiment with stitches
and create many funky patterns,
and create many funky patterns,
When I make a hat for a child,
I allow for the amount of ribbing to fit
comfortably on their head and that is my only rule.
After I have that figured out I go wild and experiment.
Depending on the mood that I am in . . .
You could say that sometimes
Looking away from the fun . . . children need to be warm . . .
so this is what I do.
Each year I go to a local preschool and
play my guitar and sing with children.
I usually dress-up as a scarecrow or as a cowgirl.
Two years ago I made a hat for each child and passed them out.
It was so rewarding.
Then the next year while I was making hats,
I starting having a terrible problem with my lungs.
I thought it was allergies or some flu bug,
but no matter what I did it wouldn't go away.
In fact it kept getting worse.
After about two months of this,
I bought a new lamp to sit by my chair
and I noticed that every-time I pulled out more yarn
the air was filled with flicks of yarn.
I was breathing these in.
I had my yarn on the table next to me. This year I am putting it in a basket on the floor . . .
I'll let gravity help take those flicks of yarn to the floor.
If you are reading this and you keep your yarn on the table next to you . . .
get a strong light and see if you are breathing in yarn . . .
and please switch your basket to the floor. :)
I hope you like these few hats.
I'll post some more at a later date.
Which of these did you like best?
Have a marvelous day . . . stay happy :)
Connie
Aw, they are so lovely, and practical too, bless you for making them for the whole class of children. I love the red and white intarsia-style one best, but I love all the colour combinations. Take care, Sally x
ReplyDeleteHi Sally, Thank you for stopping in and sharing a little bit of my homespun life. I love having company . . . I only wish we could sit down with a cup of tea and a plate of cookies and have a real chat. I am really enjoying getting to know you better.
DeleteHave a great weekend,
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
P.S. I love those pretty wrist warmers.
Wow! They are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI like hte yellow with blue and red most and the christmas hat...
Or... I can't choose!
Henny
Hi Henny, I'm very happy that you like them . . . "You can't choose" . . . how cute is that?
DeleteHave a great weekend.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
How generous you are to make all those hats. But I think having fun doing it is the most important part. I like the red & white one too.
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn, I'm very happy to see you and thank you for the kind and lovely comment.
DeleteYour blogging sister, Connie :)
Connie, they are wonderful. How clever you are and how lovely you gave them to a class of pre school children, such a kind gesture. My favourite is that lovely pink one it would look lovely on my new granddaughter Winnie. Thank you for sharing them with us.
ReplyDeletePatricia x
Hello Patricia, I love it when you stop by and visit and thank you for the sweet comment. The pink one is very girlie, isn't it?
DeleteHave a lovely weekend.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
I love them all- very cute! I never would have imagined breathing in yarn. I learn something new every day!
ReplyDeleteHi Terri, the problem with what you breath into your lung is it stays there . . . and can cause major problems down the line. So, be careful if you are a knitter, or if you work in a workshop with saws . . . that saw dust can be very bad, too.
DeleteWishing you a happy weekend.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
Connie, love all your different knit hats. Two years ago I knit and gave to charity 35 kids hats. It was the same pattern but each one was different. Thanks for the tip on the yarn fibers! Thanks for stopping by, Laura
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, it is so nice to hear that we have the children's hat thing in common. I remember one year when my Mom knitted over a hundred pairs of slippers and passed them out at the Veteran's Hospital. There is something wonderfully heartwarming about a gift, made one stitch at a time. I have a scarf that my daughter made me a few years ago, and when I wrap it around my neck in the winter, it is like a warm hug from her, even though she lives hundreds of miles away :)
DeleteHave a wonderful weekend.

I love the ones with the tassels~~~too cute! But the sweet pink with flower is too precious! Also the RED and WHITE because that is OHIO STATE colors!!! You are too talented girl.....pass some of that talent to me!! from one TALENTED Sweetie to another~~~~Roxie p.s. How did your hubbys eye surgery go? I prayed GODs hand was on him and everything went well.
ReplyDeleteHi Roxie, thank you for praying for Steve. After the surgery on Monday, we drove home, and then Tuesday we drove back for the doctor to check his work. Even the doctor was amazed at how quickly Steve's eye was reacting to the surgery. He has not seen this clearly in many years :) He was back at work on Wednesday.
DeleteI'm delighted that you like the children's hats . . . I like the tassel ones, too. What kid doesn't look cute in a quirky hat.
Thank you again for your prayers.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
These are wonderful, Connie. I love the bright colours and they look so stylish. Kids will love them!
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie, Thank you very much.
DeleteI'm wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Connie :)
Wonderful hats!!
ReplyDeleteI love the red and white hat... so cute!!
You are such a generous, and thoughtful person, to make all those hats for the kids.
I'm certain that they will always treasure them!
Hi Kerin, I just came from your site. It looks like you had a wonderful Halloween. Those were some great photos of all the cowboys and cowgirls attending and preforming. I can see why you want to make this a yearly event.
DeleteThanks for stopping by and for your sweet comment.

Hi Connie,
ReplyDeleteThese are positively the most adorable hats I've ever seen! Honestly, I can't stop looking at them. Although they are all special, my favourites are the little pink one with the pastel coloured flower because it reminds me of a hat my daughter had when she was a baby, and then the purple/pink one with the hot blue tassels! Of course, red and white always makes me think of Canada, so gotta give that one an honourable mention! So much fun! Thanks for making me smile. You are such a kind and caring lady:)
Have a great weekend!
Poppy xo
H Poppy, thanks for stopping by to visit and for your sweet comments.

Cute hats!!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteConnie,
ReplyDeleteI missed this post, you are so multi talented!! I would be like you, no two the same. Guess my favorite, the pink one!!
Carol
Hi Carol and thank you . . . you always make me smile :)
DeleteConnie
I can't believe all these beautiful hats you knit...you are so talented! A favorite? How could I pick just one?! I guess it would have to be the purple one...I think it's the 4th one down. I also really like the forest green one with the black tassle and then the white one with the red, black, and yellow bands.
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie, thanks so much for stopping by and for the kind words.
DeleteHave a great weekend.
Connie :)
What a good tip about breathing in the little bits of yarn.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite hat is the blue, pink and purple one with the fluffy bits.
I hope that little tip will save someone from going through what I did.
DeleteCrafting should be fun . . .not harmful.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Connie :)
Oh my goodness, Connie, these are fabulous! I really do need to learn to knit. I think I would enjoy that much more so than sitting with my laptop while I watch TV at night. We don't have much need for winter hats in our climate, but they are just so doggone cute!
ReplyDeleteCarol
Sweet Connie!
ReplyDeleteYou make such marvelous things! I can only imagine the joy among the children when you passed the hats out after playing and singing with them. I know my daughter would love the pink or the purple one. Those colours are her favourite :). They are all beautiful. Have a wonderful day!
Maria
Hi Connie!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog and for your lovely comment. I have really enjoyed reading yours too and I can relate to your love of knitting and to its health risks (who knew it was a danger sport!) I got RSI in my left hand and wrist last year after knitting lots of gloves as Christmas presents! I ended up with ganglions (funny lumps on the tendons) so I too had to lay down my needles! But now with my little bean about to arrive in about 3 weeks time I have picked them up again and have been knitting hats and booties ('bootie' has a different meaning in England!!) I'm loving it - they are so fun and so quick to do, and so far my wrist isn't complaining. Maybe it just requires moderation!
Keep knitting! Best wishes, Cari x
Hi Connie! These are all so adorable!! Love them!! So happy to be your newest follower! Blessings, Heather
ReplyDeleteThey are all so adorable, Connie!. Wow, you've done so many :). I've heard this before but since I don't knit, I never had any allergy to them as yet. Thanks for the great tips.
ReplyDeleteYou are a generous soul indeed...they are so funky and I love that no two are the same. xx
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative with your hats. I'm glad you figured out the lung problem - gosh! I've just dug out my knitting needles this week myself. But I'm not all that experienced at knitting...have made many, many scarves and not much else. So I am learning how to knit children's hats...so funny that I just noticed your post about this today!
