A Visit from The UK

This week I got a lovely package in the mail.
All the way from the UK :)

~~~~~*******~~~~~
Let me introduce Ali from Bee Creations
  http://alibeecreations.blogspot.com/
Ali makes delightful things with her crochet hook and her sewing machine.
Her peg bags are a delight, if you have not visited Ali,
please click and give her a warm hello :)
Not only did I receive this  wonderful book, but Ali also crocheted this adorable bookmark.
Did she know that daisies are my favorite flower?
 ~~~~~*******~~~~~

I can't wait until all of my Christmas projects are finished
 and I have time to curl up with this book.

In honor of receiving this gift, I decided to try a British recipe.
This is called Toads in a Hole.
When I told Steve what we were having for dinner,
he wrinkled up his nose at the name of this recipe,
but when served . . .he went back for seconds :)

It is a sausage and Yorkshire pudding dish
&
very good :)
There are many recipes for this on the internet.

I've not finished my first quilt, but I have started my second.

Another granddaughter and another Christmas quilt :)

I have certainly been enjoying my sewing machine.
I've done more sewing in the past year than I have done in the previous ten :)

Our weather is suppose to take a dive down the thermometer this weekend . . .
so I feel great about us getting our Christmas lights up on the house last weekend.
We don't have them turned on, but they are ready.
 No climbing ladders in the snow :)

We have plans to go to a community production of
"Fiddler On The Roof"
 this weekend.
Dinner and a play  . . . I'm looking so forward to it.

Here's wishing you all a wonderful week.

Keep Warm & Keep Smiling,

your blogging sister, Connie :)

    1. Good Morning Roxie,
      I have seen that movie a couple times but do not remember the line. I guess it's time to see it again. I do remember a line where she describes what a handkerchief is . . . great movie! I'm very happy that you are visiting Ali, she is a very talented lady :)

  3. How nice that you got a special package in the mail from your friend in the UK! I love Toad in the Hole. I first had it when I visited my friends in England back in 2000. I then recreated it at home one time, but it just wasn't the same. Two quilts by Christmas, huh? You sure are busy! Enjoy Fiddler on the Roof...one of my favorite plays.

    1. Hi Melanie, I'm looking very forward to the play. The last live performance that we've gone to was Scrooge, last Christmas. Steve's sister and brother-in-law are joining us and I know that it will be a lovely evening. I did not have the original English version to compare my Toads in a hole with, but it was delicious :)

  4. It is so nice to get a gift in the mail - and from so far away! The book looks really interesting, too. I would have loved to see the look on your hubby's face when you told him what you were serving! So funny! I'll bet it was yummy. You have some lucky granddaughters! I love Fiddler on the Roof. Sunrise...Sunset... that song always makes me cry. Have a lovely weekend, Connie and I will visit your sweet friend. Hugs xoxo Karen

    1. Good Morning Karen, His face was a true "Kodak Moment"
      The name of this dish is quite odd, but as you can see by the photo very appetizing :)
      Today is cleaning and laundry and I hope that I can get some sewing time in too.
      Christmas isn't that far away when you are making your gifts.

  6. Hi Connie
    I hope you like the book and I'm glad I made a daisy. My son loves Yorkshire puddings and toad in the hole. I shall have to think of some other UK recipes you might like to try. I can't wait to see your quilt. I haven't tried quilting and would really like to have a go. I like your forward planning. Although you could do what our neighbours do and just leave then up all year :)

    1. Hi Ali, we have a joke around here about people that leave their lights up all year . . . maybe not so much leaving them up, but still lighting them up way after Christmas . . . one neighbor was still lighting his in March last year. He must really love Christmas, right? Thank you so much for the book and book mark, I was delighted and even opened the package before I got back to the house. That's the child in me :)

  7. Mmmm.... Toad in the hole is one of my favourite meals Connie which I make in the winter months - not sure why but it's one of those comfort eating meals when it gets cold. Hope your weather doesn't get too cold just yet. It's beginning to get colder here in the UK now, although the days are very sunny but the evenings have a definite nip in the air. You sure are going to be busy with all that quilt making too.. Thankyou for your lovely comment on my post yesterday by the way, it was much appreciated. Have a lovely weekend.

    1. Hi Patricia, it does seem like more of a comfort food and a treat on a clod winters night. As far as the comment that I left on your blog: I am intrigued with your art, you have a true gift . . . I can not wait until you feel more confident and let go . . . your art is delightful.

  8. My mother used to make toad in the hole, silly name isn't it? That's the Brits for you though. Our yorkshire pudding was always made in an 8 inch square pan and when I met my husband, his mother made hers in muffin pans. (which I like better).
    Your gifts that arrived are nice and I liked peeking at the materials for your quilt. Butterflies...can't go wrong there.

    1. Hello Judith, thanks for popping in to visit. I think that I might try muffin tins next time . . . we all like the crusty edges and that would give us more :)

    1. Good morning, well we went to the play last night. It was wonderful! I have been having a great time sewing; it is so nice to have the time (retirement) to fall in love with sewing all over again :) My two quilts are going to be so different, but my two little granddaughters have different personalities and I'm hoping to put a smile on each pretty little face and give them something special that they will love :)
      Here's wishing you a lovely Saturday. I'm sure that your booth is buzzing with holiday shoppers :)

  11. Hi Connie, what a great surprise from Ali - I will check out her blog later. And yes Toad in the Hole is a great British stand-by, and very tasty too, as you have realised! If you make them in muffin tins the Yorkshires would be called 'pop-overs' and `I know what you mean about the crusty bits - though I am partial to a bit of the soggy bit in the middle myself! Lx

    1. Hi Lynne, I've never made popovers and always wanted to try . . . sounds like I'm half way there :) We really enjoyed the Toads in a Hole and will be serving it again. It's always fun to try a new dish . . . I hate boredom, whether it be in the kitchen or in any other part of life :) Life's to short to spend it in a rut, LOL

    1. Good Morning Lynn, we went to the play Friday evening and it was wonderful. It made for a long evening out, for old geezers like us, we didn't get home until 11:00. Thanks for the compliment on my quilt, I am having so much fun with my sewing machine . . . I have the time now to really dive into a project . . . that was time that I just didn't have when I was working. So far retirement is wonderful :)

  13. Hi Connie,

    What a great little bookmark! I had a dog named Daisy, bless her little heart. The dish looks absolutely amazing - I can see why Steve went back for seconds.

    The butterfly looks amazing - so you have one of those fancy machines that does embrodeiry? Very cool.

    Hugs,

    1. Hi Kay, it is very nice to see you here, so you had a dog named Daisy, how sweet is that :)
      I'm having fun making my two granddaughters Christmas quits, but the time is ticking away and I really need to put some time into it.
      You know when you're mailing at Christmas you like to have things done by the 15th . . . anyway that is the deadline that I'm setting for myself :)
      and the days just keep rolling away . . . Funny how when you're a kid, the days go so slowly :)

  15. I love toad in the hole but I've never been able to make it successfully myself. When I've mentioned this to other people they can't believe it - apparently it's the simplest thing ever to make! I've given up trying now because I've offered up too many burnt offerings with completely uncooked bottoms!
