This quilt was a surprise for my daughter.
She visits my blog . . . so, I couldn't post this before Christmas.
There was no way that I could possibly wrap our darling granddaughters
in a handmade quilt,
without also wrapping a warm hug around our daughter, too.
After all; no matter how old she is,
she will always be our little girl :)
Here it is all quilted and getting the binding applied.
I sewed the binding to the quilt by machine and then hemmed it by hand.
Here is the finished quilt.
She has been doing yoga for at least nine years.
It's a great way to stay flexible and gain strength.
So, I choose to do a yoga theme in her quilt.
I'm enjoying my renewed love for sewing.
For so many years, by machine gathered dust
and was only used for mending.
When our daughter was young I made her school clothes
and mine as well,
but somewhere along the line I just lost the desire to sew.
Now, with the added time of retirement . . .
I am enjoying it all over again :)
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
P.S. Please leave a comment and let me know that you visited,
I enjoy the friendships that have come my way through blogging.

ReplyDeleteThose colours have enough sunshine to make anyone smile :)
You know I was not completely sure about my fabric choices until they were pieced together. Then like you said 'sunshine" . . . they just worked and were a very happy blend.
DeleteIts beautiful Connie and I think she must have been thrilled to have received it. A family heirloom of the future.
ReplyDeleteHi Anne, I spoke with her on the phone today and she said that she cried when she opened it . . . and that it couldn't have been more perfect.

Hi Terri, thanks so much for stopping by . . . I so enjoy company and making new friends.
DeletePretty....everytime I visit you, I think, need to start sewing. My machine sits out, but I never touch it.....someday. Maybe I should buy some material and just get started!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Louise, Oh, I hope that you mark sewing down as one of the things that you are going to do this next year. Start a list and put it at the top . . .then go shopping for that material :)
DeleteEvening Connie, What a beautiful, colorful quilt for your daughter!! I would have loved to seen her face when she opened this gift. The theme is perfect for her...well thought out! I'm happy you have found a renewed LOVE for sewing.......as the Bible says...there is a season for everything! I think the colors of the quilt are so alive and cheerful....I do not know your daughter, but I would say these colors represent who she is....cheerful, outgoing and a free spirit! Beautiful post.....I'm sure your Christmas was special......Blessings for a Happy 2014~~~Roxie Also, I forgot to add a few pics on my last post...the new lights outside. So I went back and added....tell me what you think?
ReplyDeleteHi Roxie, I checked them out before replying . . . I don't know where you found them, but they are perfect, almost like you had an artist design them especially for your cottage. Did you? They just add to the cedar shakes and give it a rustic feel. Beautiful!!!
DeleteIt's beautiful, Connie! Your daughter will love it! Hand created gifts are the very best kind, I think:) Love those cheery colors and prints!
ReplyDeleteHello Donna, thank you so much. I talked with her on the phone today and she said that she cried when she opened it. That is was perfect!

Oh, what a lucky daughter she is - and yes, I agree with the fact that they always remain our 'little girls'. Your gift is beautiful - I know she will treasure it. Hugs xo Karen
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, thanks for stopping in to visit. My little girl turned forty this year, where has the time gone . . . but always my little girl :)
DeleteMerry Christmas and I hope that you and your family have a wonderful new year filled with joy.
Absolutely fabulous and what a wonderful heirloom to pass on down the family. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Patricia, I can always count on you for encouragement and I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness. This quilt will be getting lots of everyday use, so I doubt that it will last to ever be a heirloom, LOL.
DeleteHi Patricia, it's me again . . . I was just putting together another post with a quilt for Steve . . . I had his quilt in my mind when I typed the reply above. I'm sure that Autumn's quilt will be around for a long time, but when it comes to Steve's, well we all know that men are just harder on everything, LOL. But that's okay, because I can always make him another one when he wear this one out :)
DeleteBright, cheery and lovely! I'm sure it will be treasured!
ReplyDeletevery best wishes to you and yours for 2014
