Art Barn . . . Shabby Chic Banner

Some of you call this a bunting

 &

Some of you call it a banner.

I just hope you call it pretty,

because that's what I call it.

I am delighted with how it turned out.

I had these felt flowers that I made a couple of years ago
when I was making bib necklaces.

So I added some of them to my project.

I also dug into my button jars

and added some of them.

I had a busy day, but feel so good about all that I accomplished today.

I had a lot of yard work, plus laundry and cleaning,
but by 2:00
I was happily sitting at my sewing machine:)

I also had time to paint this large
candlestick.

I think it makes a great hat stand.

You may have noticed
that I kept the top edge of my banner raw & frayed.
I thought about finishing it, and then I thought
that I needed a little "shabby" in my "chic", LOL

Well, tell me what you think of my banner.
I was afraid that it might be a little bit too much,
but when I got it hung,
I loved it :)

I hope that you all had a wonderful day.
Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

    1. HI Roxie, I am happy that you like my banner, it was a lot of fun to make. Just this afternoon we picked our first tomatoes. Nothing is quite so tasty as fresh tomatoes from the garden :)

  4. Hello Connie, This is my first visit to your blog. I love the colors of your new banner. It's so cheerfully whimsical yet restful as well, like little flags flapping on an ocean breeze. I will be back again to see what else you are doing.

    1. Good Morning Ann, It is great to take a little break in the morning, cup in hand and blogging in front of me. I love that you love my unfinished edge, it was something that I debated about. Finish or not finish . . . that was the question. I even though that the banner might make the room way too busy, but then I remembered what I like about other people's spaces and it's the layers upon layers. In a world of shabby chic . . . it's a good thing :)

    1. Hi Sue, that one little jar that is long and thin, was in a trunk that belonged to my husband's grandmother. I have never used any of them . . . I may someday, but I like to keep them just the way she had them. In some small way, it keeps me connected to his family's past and the brave prairie woman from Oklahoma.

    1. Good Morning Lynn, I am delighted that I could inspire you to make a banner. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you do. I love doing projects where I can make everything in the project different, that is how this was. It's the repetition of sameness that drives me a bit crazy and steals away the fun :)

    1. Good Morning Brandi, Long time no see . . . I know that the road runs both ways. So, I'll be coming over to see what you have been up to. I love making projects from scraps, it's like getting free stuff, right:) When you can take the scraps leftover from other projects and create something fun, useful or pretty, it is so rewarding. Well, I have a lawn to mow, but before I go outside, I'm going to visit your blog. Have a wonderful day, and again it is great to see you :)

  19. I think it's gorgeous, and I am rather jealous of your skill with a sewing machine - I have tried, but failed miserably. I keep reading that bunting has had its day, but in the real world, I see no sign of that and I love it (actually, they tried and failed to do the same to pashminas - still popular with real people.

I love your button jar, and am about to start my own from my rather large collection of unused buttons. I found a very pretty little jar for sale in a sweet shop in Sweden and have brought it home with exactly that in mind. I now feel inspired to forego the ironing mountain and get busy with buttons!

    1. Hello Marianne, it is wonderful to have you stop by and visit. Keep trying on the sewing machine, maybe you need to find a simple project to start out . . . this bunting would be a great first project. I just came from your blog and really enjoyed your photos of Sweden. I am also looking forward to seeing your pretty jar all filled with little buttons. They look like jewels when placed in a glass jar. Do come again, I love company :)
