Welcome to My Potting Shed

 It's Done!
 ~~~~~*****~~~~~
I am so excited & delighted.
~~~~~*****~~~~~
 I found this door at a thrift store.
Steve sawed it in half and made me a Dutch door :)
I love it!
 ~~~~~*****~~~~~
Come on in  . . .
Take a look around.
~~~~~*****~~~~~
I took a lot of photos.
I don't want to bore you, but I love showing it off.
~~~~~*****~~~~~
   I know that I will be buried
in seed catalogs this winter . . .
planning for spring planting.
~~~~~*****~~~~~

~~~~~*****~~~~~
I have a question for you.
These windows are very old and there is
a lot of hard water deposit on them.
My neighbor told me that it would be better
to not clean it off because it helps filter the light.
She says the clear glass might cause
the shed to get too hot. I know that most
 greenhouses are frosted glass or plastic.
That makes a lot of sense to me . . .
Do any of you have suggestions?
~~~~~*****~~~~~

Some of you might remember when
I cut this hand out on the band-saw.
How do you like my sign?
~~~~~*****~~~~~
I still have lots of leftover windows,
anybody want to build a greenhouse?
~~~~~*****~~~~~

It was a lot of work,
but it will be so nice next spring.
I'm planning on spending many hours
out here playing in the dirt
and growing bedding plants for my garden.

It was fun decorating it, too . . .
almost every single thing is from
yard sales or the Goodwill.

~~~~~*****~~~~~
I hope you enjoyed your visit:)
Keep Smiling!
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
    1. Good Morning Carol, this new home has been a labor of love. Steve has just under three years before retirement and we want to get these things done while we have the extra money and energy to do them :) Thank you for all of your sweet comments . . . you have made my day and it's just beginning . . .thank you for your blogging friendship I have loved getting to know you and sharing ideas with you. You come up with so many inspiring projects and I have used many of your tutorials. You're the best! Oh, and one more thing before I stop typing . . . Thanks for calling us "KIDS" that's a word I haven't heard in a very long time, LOL
    1. Hi Judy, Thank you so much. We looked at the pre-made one's at a local lumberyard. They were made cheaply with untreated 1X2 frame work. We built ours out of treated 2X4's . . . it will last for a very long time (after I'm long gone) LOL. Our cost was between 1/3 and 1/2 of their price, plus we got to plan it our way and had fun building it together. I am delighted that you like it :)
I'm sure I will visit out there a few times this winter and just enjoy the day dreaming of spring planting . . .while bundled up in winter clothes, sipping a hot coffee and looking out at the winter landscape :)
  4. I really did enjoy my visit, thank you for sharing. It really was an inspirational visit, such a beautiful place to potter about. If you put some chicken wire on one of the spare window frames it will make a great notice board or place to peg seed packets. Have a good day.
  9. Your new shed is great, Steve did an amazing job!! I love all the special details inside, and the fall decor outside too! I am not sure about the windows. I think I would leave them be if the deposits are not too thick. The one side does look pretty thick though, I might scrape some off just to be able to see through if need be, but not remove all of the deposits.
I have been thinking about making a few of my signs over again and seeing if I could sell them.     1. Hi Alex, My sweet husband has hated that adjoining shed, only because it was painted yellow and doesn't match anything else on our property. So he was delighted when I bought enough paint to paint it, too :) He did a wonderful job on that door and I love it! This is going to be my happy place this spring when it's time to start planting seeds. The only thing bad about it, is that knowing it's out there waiting for me, will make winter seem much longer this year, LOL.
  17. Wow...I am so impressed! Not only of the design, the uniqueness, and the character...but how quickly you and Steve finished this project, too! I don't know what to tell you about the water deposits on the windows though. It does sound like it'd be a "good thing" in the long run.
    1. Hi Melanie, I love vintage and I love old rusty worn objects, so i think that i am going to call those water spots "patina" and be happy they are there:) Besides that they might be the perfect answer to filtering the light. If so I won't have to worry about the sprinkler hitting the clear windows . . . I can just let them take on the patina, too. LOL
  19. The potting shed looks terrific!! Everything is sitting ready and waiting for spring. You have it so organized too ... I like the white pails with the soil, peat & compost :) I love all the little special bits you have in there with hanging baskets and that neat green shelf with the vintage bottles. What a great idea to put this together, and that dutch door will help cool things down with the top half opened. Myself, I like clean windows, and I'm not sure the water stains will keep out the heat that much.
    1. Oh, I know that it is going to get hot in there . . . but Steve build three windows up toward the ceiling that will hinge-out (green frames) and let heat escape, so that should help as well. We'll see how it goes; I can always put a small fan out there, too :) I am so appreciative for all the feedback. I've only had two gardens, this year and last . . . I'm still getting used to this country life and have a lot to learn :)
    1. Hello Dee, I don't know much about it either . . . Last year was my first garden and this year my second. I am learning as I go, and having so much fun doing it. Before we bought this place we had a small shady backyard and even though I tried I could not get vegetables to grow, they need a lot of sunshine. Now that we have the space and the sun to spread out and have a garden I am loving it. It is so much fun to go grocery shopping in the garden and fresh picked freshness is so much fresher that the super markets freshness, LOL. I am delighted that you like my potting shed . . . I'm sure that I will spend many happy hours out there.
  32. I LOVE your potting shed. I miss the one I used to have....You will LOVE being out there. Gardening really gets in your blood..and especially when you have a little "house" to putter around in.
    I would probably get the calcium deposits off the windows simply because I just couldn't stand looking through them. lol I think it depends on how much direct sun you get through those windows, though. If you get direct South sun all day then maybe not such a good idea. In my old potting shed I had opaque shower curtains (the plastic ones that let light through but they were "frosted") and I use used shower hooks and put up a long rod over the windows. That way I could adjust the light-wide open in spring and fall and I could shut the during the hottest part of the summer day.....just a thought. Hope you have a great weekend. xo Diana
    1. Hello Lynn, thank you for stopping by . . . I only have one window that is terribly bad, two are medium with hard water spots and the two big ones are clear (they had to be the ones from the front porch, where the sprinklers never hit them. I can't understand how the people lived in our home with windows like that. When we bought this house the Realtor said you'll never get them clean, but I got most of the hard water from of them. It is much different if they are in a potting shed or in your house, LOL. I'm going to leave them for the first year and then decide how much sun comes through and what to do about it. I love that you love my shed . . . I love it, too.
