A Busy Day

We have spent the last week
digging up this portion in front
of Steve's shop and putting
in a slab.
Today was the pour day.
Three friends came to do the finishing
for us.
I remember when we were younger, stronger
and more bendable, LOL, and we could
do jobs like this  . . . those days are gone :)
Looking good :)
Do you remember my loft from the last post?
Well, after painting the ceiling and walls white.
I took squares of scrapbook paper . . .
and Mod Podge glue . . .
and now it looks like this.
I'll have finished photos on my next post.
*******
Have a wonderful week
&
Keep Smiling!

  1. Wow, I love your idea of using scrapbook paper and modpodge to cover a wall! How fun! That Modpodge is pretty amazing stuff! Your wall in the loft looks great, and a perfect way to use up a lot of paper gathering dust. :)

    1. Since I do a lot of quilting out there I thought that the squares of paper would look a bit like quilting squares and fit right in :)

  3. Oh my goodness, Connie. It looks like a big, beautiful wall quilt. I'm working with Mod Podge, too, this week. A reveal will be coming soon, I hope. I know what you mean about not being able to do the things you did when you were younger. Dennis and I have that, too. It's okay, though. We're all still moving, right? Hugs, Nancy

  5. I seem to remember folks saying to me that when you pour cement it is important to smooth things out quickly ... so you were so fortunate to have three willing friends to help. The finished result looks good too.

I do like your craft idea for that wall, quite ingenious - thanks for sharing.

Do hope you have a lovely weekend.

    All the best Jan

    1. Hi Melanie, That scrapbook paper was my second thought, when my first idea didn't turn out as good in reality as it did in my head. Have you ever had one of those? Anyway I like this and I think it looks a little bit like a patchwork quilt . . . perfect for the art barn.

  7. Lovely pad of concrete.. I bet you'll want to extend it further someday. I *LOVE* the patchwork design you did.. you're *SO* clever! Can't wait to see it all "decked out". Oh I made a funny! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

    1. Hi Teresa, Steve loves to barbecue and has a collection of grills and smokers. Last year when he was rolling out his Big Green Egg (have you heard of them) it hit the gravel and turned over. It's very heavy, I had run next door and asked the two Mormon missionary boys if they would help him pick it back up. We were very fortunate that it didn't crack or break. This pad will make it so much nicer for him to roll his grills in and out of the garage. He hasn't used the Green Egg since that day . . . after cooking on it and getting it back in the garage it has stayed there. I love it for pizza, so now that we will be able to use it again, I need to find a good low carb pizza dough recipe. Do you have any up your sleeve?

  8. Good afternoon Connie, Have crawled into the recliner for a rest so checked your blog! The slab in front of Steve's workshop sure looks nice. What all does he work on out there? Do you put your cars into it in the winter? It is so nice that you have your little craft barn and he has his own work space too! I think you should give craft classes in that little craft barn! I would sign up! LOL I love how you used the paper to put on that one wall. It looks so cheery and I bet most people would not have thought of that. You have a great week-end too! Thanks for sharing! Nancy

    1. Hi Nancy, the people before us didn't have the barn. It was something we bought and had delivered. Have you heard of Old Hickory Sheds, they are built my the Mennonites and have many building factories around the country. Anyway we bought it from them, they deliver and set up and level out and put them right where you want them and they make them as big as 14X40. Some people buy them for lake cabins. I highly recommend their sheds. I have two 14X8 foot lofts in my barn, so I'm going to use one for storage only and this one I'm fixing up for a little bit of storage but also a couple mattress. It will be great for extra company and for the granddaughters to play in :)

    1. Hi Laurie, you forgot the best thing about it . . . cheap . . . it fit my budget for the barn, LOL. I like how it looks, too. It reminds me of a patch work quilt, perfect for a barn that I sew and quilt in :)

    1. Hi Judy, it is so nice to hear from you. I am having fun fixing up the barn loft . . . I can feel free to get a little crazy and creative with my decor out there and that scrapbook paper was a cheap. Besides that I like how it reminds me of a patch work quilt. Steve is going to love his new pad. Rolling his barbecues out there will be so easy now. Gravel is almost impossible to roll things around on :)

  11. Yay! On getting to pour concrete at the shop! And three cheers for the papered wall in the art barn! I love that. I wanted to do something similar in the camper. But since I'm not going to be camping alone--- I decided not to go that way. I'll just swing by occasionally and look at yours!

    1. Hi Patricia, I know what you mean about the camper. You see so many online that have been fixed up absolutely adorable, but not necessarily with a husband in mind, LOL. Anyway camping can get messy and white lace curtains look pretty but are they practical when you're fishing at the lake?

    1. Hi Ann, I think we all hate thinking about our bodies going down hill, but I for one have come to the conclusion that I need to pay attention and get other people to do the jobs that require a lot of bending and lifting. Pay them or be in pain and pay the chiropractor, LOL. We were blessed my two of these men being friends and not taking anything for their work . . . we tried but they wouldn't take it :)

    1. Hi Betty, I think it is important, especially after they retire to have a place of their own where they can go and spend some guy hours. Whether they like woodworking, working of cars, barbecuing . . . whatever . . . we all need a little space of our own.

  17. Yes, I remember those more bendable days. LOL Love your wall. I wonder if I could do that on an ugly wood paneled wall and if I got take it off when I tired of it. Guess I'll have to research that.

    1. It might be a real job to take it off. Have you ever seen that textured paintable wallpaper. It is heavy weight and might just cover the lines in the paneling with out any trouble or you could spackle the lines. Just a thought . . . you could try it on a place that is not so noticeable. Then you could chance the paint color when you got tried of it. I pull it up in the kitchen of my old house and loved it.

  18. Hey at least you realize you're not as bendable and hire it done! Not us.... No can do. But I want to! My Shug still thinks he has to do it all himself. ( heavy sigh)

    1. Hello Cindy, we still do most of it ourselves, but those jobs that require too much bending, just tear our old bodies apart. The old gray mare just ain't what she used to be, LOL.

  21. Hi Connie. That is a big area of cement. I know what you mean about being able to do things in the younger days and not being able to do it now. Sometimes I still push it and I paid the price the next day.
Your scrapbook wallpaper looks great! Your signature is in every part of your home and I absolutely love that.
The buyer calderas is a wonderful place and is now a national park. I went and fishing there when it was a private ranch. I am slowly getting back into blogging which I have really missed.

Those lofts are amazing for storage and like you said in one of your comments, one for the granddaughters to play in - what a fun spot for them. They will have lots of memories from there to last their lifetime! :)
