Wooden Spools and Goodwill Finds

Sometimes you just want a small project.

 I went out to the shop
to get some hamburger out of the freezer.
Walked inside and saw Steve's scrap pile.
I love going through his wood scraps.
 When I spied the bead-board I had an idea.
 Went to the band-saw and started cutting.
Great little spools to wind scraps
of binding, lace, rickrack and ribbon on.
I sanded the edges a little bit and then . . .
 rubber stamped them with permanent ink.
 Now they can join the wooden spools
that I made last year.
 Just trying to stay organized
 in a cute way.
When I was in town last week I stopped in
at the Goodwill store and found this.
L.L.Bean for $5.99
I think that I might just wear it
to church next Sunday.
I also found this red hoodie.
Perfect for my new farm girl status.
 See what it says.
This was also $5.99 and will be perfect
this fall and winter.
Even the label is cute :)

Well, that's my post.
I hope you enjoyed your visit
and that you'll leave a comment so that
I know you were here.
~~~~~*****~~~~~
Before I say good-bye I just want to say,
how very much I appreciate all of you.
When I first started blogging
I had no idea of the friendships that would develop.
It's hard to find adequate words to thank you all
for being so supportive of me
and my little corner of blog-land.
It's a very special sisterhood and I am
proud to be a part of it,
and to call myself your Blogging Sister :)
~~~~~*****~~~~~
Thank you
&
Keep Smiling.

Connie :)

    1. Good Morning Maria, it is so nice to have you visit. I do hope that your week is filled with fun projects and even some great bargain shopping, too. I was delighted with these two fines and will enjoy wearing them this winter . . . that hoodie is wonderfully warm and will feel real good on cold days.

  2. My - aren't you handy with a saw! Very cute way to store your ribbons and laces. And what great finds in the thrift store! I bought a pretty sweater a couple of years ago that was meant to be made into a pillow. I still need to do it. I guess it needs to go on my to-do list.

  4. Hi Connie, Your blog does make me smile! I love the little little spools you made to wind little bits of lace on!! You know, you and Steve are so clever you could set up a business when he retires doing something you love to do! What a great find in that sweatshirt!! Love it! Made just for you! The sweater is pretty too. I worked outdoors for just a bit today. Am worn out now and going to crawl into the recliner!! Enjoy your day! Nancy

    1. Thank you . . . it was my pleasure. I love the exchanging of letter writing and wish more people would go back to this simple way of communication. It takes more time than a phone call, but it is something that you can return to and re-read . . . I have a collection of letters from my oldest brother, that I treasure. Now that he is gone, I can still visit with him, just by opening his old letters are reading them again . . . it's a good thing.

  7. What a cute way to stay organized. I wish my husband had a scrap pile like yours does :) You come up with the most clever ideas.
    Great find on that sweater. That's really nice and what an awesome price for something from LL Bean.
    I know just what you mean about blogging friendships. I never would have imagined I would have gone as far as I have with my blog and met (online) so many wonderful people. Your blog is a delight to visit and I'm always thrilled when I see you have a post up

    1. Hello Ann, I feel the same way about your blog. It is hard to explain these blogging friendships to someone who does not blog. I had no idea of the friendships that would develop through blogging, when I started . . . it's nice to know that we are not so much different from each other. The sharing of day to day routines, housework, problems at work, projects that we love working on, parenting, loving our families, fear of doctor visits . . . the list goes on and on, but we all have these things going on in our lives and the support we give and get in return through our blogging sisters can be so encouraging and heartfelt. Thank you for being such a sweet blogging sister, I appreciate your friendship :)

  8. Oh Connie, I just love your beadboard spools! They are so cute! I have lots of beadboard scraps and might have to make some of these one day. Great finds at Goodwill too. I love finding nice, name brand clothing at thrift stores for a fraction of the cost new. I love the quality of high end clothing but not the regular prices! You will look just lovely in your pretty new white sweater! Hope you are having a wonderful week..:) Mine is a busy one....parent conferences, a cook-off at school, lunch duty, conference night which means a double shift Thursday! But, Thursday is my 27th anniversary and I am off Friday and the hubby took off too so we can do something fun. I'm looking forward to it! Hugs, Vicky

    1. First and foremost, Happy Anniversary! Have a wonderful weekend with your hubby and leave all that teacher stuff at school, LOL. Sometimes I wonder when I find a high-end product that is still in perfect condition . . . why it is in the thrift store. My hope is that the person lost weight and it just didn't fit anymore, or that they have so much money that they buy a new wardrobe each year or two. I had a friend like that years ago . . . she was a fantastic seamstress and every spring and fall she totally made a new wardrobe of fashionable outfits. I worked with her and always looked forward to the new season fashion-show, LOL. Who can afford such extravagances . . . I have clothes that are twenty years old, LOL.

  9. I have missed blogging, and the friendships. I just have not had the time this summer. But I'm on a little get away and I brought my computer. Hopefully I will get caught up a bit. And what a lovely post! I spied that bead board in your husband's wood pile too. Now I need to go spy some bead board in my Shug's wood pile! What a cute idea. How do you think of these things? And I'm kinda jealous of that sweater. Although I did find a giant brown bag cookie mold at the goodwill last week. Gotta stop in now and then to get my junque fix! I enjoyed my visit!

    1. Hi Cindy, First of all . . . You have been missed! I need my Indiana home-girl fix every now and then, too :) You have been doing a lot of traveling . . . that makes me think that bees must not need a lot of care. You are still keeping bees, aren't you? I appreciate your blogging friendship and like I said, I miss your posts . . . but getting out and enjoying life is much more important than sitting here blogging. Choices, choices, choices . . . living life or writing about it . . . I'd be picking living it every time. Oops! maybe I need to get out more LOL

I shall have to have a go at making some myself as I never know what to do with ribbon, I try to wind it but it ends up escaping all over the place. Great goodwill finds at brilliant prices. 21. Ok Connie, I guess my mind went in another direction. I love the sweater. Lacy tops are so in this year. And of course I love the spools as well. You are always so clever and inventive. But...you said you went to the freezer for hamburger, got side tracked at the wood scrap pile and ended up at the band saw. So...did you ever make it to the freezer or did you end up ordering take-out that day? Just asking....LOL!

  26. How great are those spools, Connie? They have a wonderful vintage look to them! I do love the big round ones you've got, too. I store a lot of my lace and braids in some old leather suitcases that I got from my parents when we were clearing their house before they sold it. They look lovely stacked up on the counter in my studio. One day I shall get around to painting my rather boring small cardboard box storage but there's always something more important to do first - it's nice to have your studio looking nice, isn't it!

    Thanks for your visit and your lovely comment - glad you like my autumn cards! I thought I'd keep my trees seasonal. We've got a couple of birthdays coming up that I can use them for, if I can make them up into cards in time.
