Surprises . . . One I recieved & One I'm Giving

Saturday afternoon a box was setting on my back steps
from Sherry, of Thrifty My House.
She had a Give-A Way
and although I did not win,
she knew how much I loved her feather bouquet
and sent me some for my Thanksgiving mantel.
If you have never visited Sherry's blog . . .
Thrift My House
please do . . . She has amazing ideas to share
and as you can see she has a heart of pure gold.

Sherry takes Dollar store and thrift finds and turns them into  treasures.
Some girls just have that wonderful ability.
The best part is that she is happy to share her ideas with us :)
Speaking of the Dollar Store . . .
these were tucked into my package as well.
Like I said, she is a sweetie :)
 ~~~~~***~~~~~
I have two brothers  . . .
each one has their birthday in January.
I've decided to surprise them both
with a handmade quilt this year.
Since we only exchange cards and phone calls,
this will be a true surprise.
My youngest brother,
five and a half years my senior
(yes I'm the baby in the family . . .
70 years old and still the baby, LOL)
has always loved baseball.
Not only loves it but has never stopped playing.
He plays on a senior team and is active
in baseball and softball
throughout his area in Oregon.
This is a photo of him in our front yard,
when he was around fifteen years old.
It is going to be the center of his quilt.
Well, that is one of the things
that I'm working on this week.
What are you up to?
Keep Smiling!
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
  9. Love those feathers. So pretty. What a nice surprise. Your brother is going to LOVE that quilt. The quilt alone would be nice enough but the personalized block with the picture makes it extra special.
    1. I think he is going to love that photo on his quilt. I don't even know if he has that photo. You know Moms share there photos with all of their children and I don't think she thought about making duplicates for each of us. It would be fun to look and see what pictures of the past we all have and hear the stories that go along with them :)
  10. What a nice surprise to get, and give! It's so fun receiving something in the mail besides ads or bills.
    My brother played baseball too, but doesn't play now. And my Dad was coach, and later, manager of his team. I'm planning a surprise reunion for the team. They were the first from our league to win City Champs! Some of them still have the team picture that was in the paper. If only I were a quilter!
    1. Kimberley, you are so right about this being a wonderful place to meet amazing and very creative women. Not just that but there are some that use their blogs to share creative ideas that we all can use to make our home special, some that share recipes with photos that make you want to run to the grocery and get the ingredients and then there are some that start prayer chains (like Nana Diana) . . . so many wonderful people, wanting to be part of a loving community . . . I feel honored to be a small part of this world wide group. They encourage me, they make me smile, some even make me laugh out loud . . . and some just touch my heart with their inner beauty. In a time where outwardly it looks like the world is falling apart . . . their are women with faith and strong nurturing abilities that are standing firm and using their site to make this a better world.
    1. Hi Connie, I am a strong believer in not allowing age and circumstances to dictate your quality of life. It has nothing to do with how much you have but more about how much you are grateful for. Use your body as long as you can for as much as you can and it will carry you through much more than you would imagine. Those that have always been active in sports like my brother can remain strong simply by not believe the lies that they are too old to do that anymore. A line from one of Tom Petty's songs says, "If you never slow down, you'll never grow old" . . . in some ways I agree with that, but I do think there are times to slow down, but never to stop completely. Stopping is for the grave. I'm very proud of my brother, both of them :)
      Sherry is a darling and I love my feather bouquet . . . I'll be storing them in a good place and each Autumn displaying them in my home :)
    1. Hi Rosemary and Welcome Back! Now that gardening is a thing of the past . . . until next Spring, LOL, I have been having more time for sewing and working on fun projects around the house. I've made my hubby a Christmas quilt that I am giving him early. He is taking all of next week off work, so I'm going to give it to him then so that he can enjoy it through the holidays.
    1. Oh, as much as you sew I'm sure that you would love quilting. I started three years ago and I'll tell you once that quilting bug bites you . . . you'll be hooked :) I would love to encourage you to give it a try. I'll bet you have lots of scraps in your sewing basket :)
  15. Sherry is just a doll and I have followed her blog for a long time. That is the most wonderful quilt for your brother. How great that he still plays and is able to participate. He is going to be so surprised and I bet he sheds a tear or two over that gift! xo Diana
  16. I don't think my comment went through, so I'll try again. The quilts are going to be wonderful. I love the baseball theme. The baseball fabric and the photo of your brother. Are the red baseball players embroidered? I can't tell from the photo. It was nice of Sherry to send you the feathers and other goodies. xo ~ Nancy
    1. Hi Nancy, yes the players are embroidered, when I saw that design I just had to incorporate them into a quilt for him. I'm found a package of fishing designs that I'm going to use on my older brothers quilt. I have to say again how much I love the cottage that you have featured on your blog (the one on the Goose Farm in Missouri) it is sure a pleasant and peaceful place. I can not imagine guests ever wanting to leave.
