Two New Weekend Projects

A little jar to hold my zinnias :)

 A little white paint . . .

A little red paint :)

Many of you already know the polka dot trick,
use the eraser from a pencil,
like a rubber stamp.

Simple :)

 I can't remember what I paid
for this old ironing board,
but I know it was $2 or $3
at a yard sale this spring.

I dry brushed it with white paint.

 Then I stenciled and . . .

painted on lettering
and took the sandpaper and hammer to it
in order to give it a distressed look.
Here it is in our mudroom/laundryroom.

Now on to something else . . .
I love having a project :)

  2. Now that's clever Connie. I would not have seen such possibilities in an old ironing board. I love how your mind works. I also love fresh flowers in the house and painting a mason jar was the perfect prop for your old fashioned blossoms. :)

  3. Always love seeing the fun stuff on your blog. I decided to make a wood top for my ironing board, and when I asked my brother what wood I should buy, he said he'd make one for me! And he's already delivered it. It's just slightly larger than my iron board, and rectangular instead of pointy. I can't wait to iron yardage on it! DH and I covered it with quilt batting and fabric last night, and I love it! I may need to paint some flower jars later today. I just happen to have all the supplies. . . .

    1. Having a rectangular ironing board for fabric will be nice. I am sure that you are going to enjoy it, so much. I'm delighted that my little jar could inspire you to make some . . . happy crafting :)

  5. Love your little projects! I used to have an old ironing board like your but I can't remember what happened to it. We probably sold it in a garage sale or something! Wish I had it now because I love yours!

  6. I enjoyed seeing what you did with the old ironing board. I actually rescued one like that from my grandparents old farmhouse and it's cracked down the middle. I'd actually like to get it re-glued and cleaned up and put it back into action as an ironing board with a pretty vintage fabric (like flour sacks) cover on it and put it in my sewing room/craft studio. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

    1. Hi Teresa, Your ironing board idea sounds really adorable, especially for a sewing and craft room. I hope you remember to post photos when you get it done. I love the fact that it belonged to your grandparents, that makes it very special :)

  12. Another two amazing projects of yours :)! It's amazing how you come up with these endless amount of ideas. The ironing board turned out just awesome. And I love those american glass jars! I bought one last year (ball mason, 12 oz) and it cost $ 8. Pretty much but I just had to have it. I'll never paint it though, I love it just the way it is ;).

    Have a nice day!

    1. They are pretty plentiful here, so painting them is a cheap option. I have a couple that are antique with old zinc lids . . . I would never change them :)

  14. When the school asked one time for me to help with a project, my daughter said, Oh, no, you don't know what a monster you create when you give Mom a project. Not a monster at all but dedicated and excited about projects. Maintenance had been my project it seems all summer!

I like both of your completed beauties. Make me want to create again.

  15. What a fun, upbeat post. I like the floral arrangement in the polka dot jar. I have a friend who bought one of those children's ironing board. She decopaged it and added all kinds of images to the top. I actually like yours better.

You asked what ICAD stood for. I shared it once and it was also on Tammy's card/logo. It is called Index Card A Day. They are 3" X 5" and I decorated one each day for 61 days. Thanks for asking.

    1. Thank you for explaining this to me . . . it sounds like a fun challenge. Today I was in the school supply department of Walmart and can across a small 2 X 3 card stock tablet that is put together with one punched hole and a metal blinder ring. It's about 1/3 the size of an index card, but I thought it would be fun to fill it with zen-tangles and other pieces of tiny art. I am delighted that you like my projects, thank you :)

  18. Polka dots just make me happy Connie! Your jar is just perfect. Love the ironing board as well. I had three, but I actually use one in my sewing room, gave one to my daughter, and sold the third one at a vintage flea in May. The most I paid was $5. Great deal for both you and me. I sold the one at fleaology for $25. I've seen them more than that.

    Jann
