Fancy Farm Girl Vintage Market

Fancy Farm Girl Vintage Market
came to town.

So I went down to check it out,
just to see if it is something
that I might like to do.

There were some booths with signs
to sell, but none like mine.

I think it might be fun to have a booth,
but it is a lot of work to set up a booth,
and then take it all down a few hours later.

I do want to sell my signs,
but I'm just not sure of how
I want to go about it.

I'm very open to suggestion :)
If you have any ideas please share them.

Don't you just love this old doll carriage?

These whirligigs didn't photograph
well but believe me they were incredible.

Pink boots anyone . . .
cute but not my color, LOL.

This is what I purchased.
She was asking $70, but I got it for $50.
What she didn't know was that ever since
I saw Carol's at Art and Sand,
I have been looking for one.
See Carol's here:

I love this old machine and everything about it works,
if only I knew where to find a new ribbon, LOL.

I will leave you with this . . .
Our lilacs are almost finished for the year,
but I managed to bring in one more bouquet.

Thanks for stopping by
and for your friendship.
It means so much!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  3. I would think that selling on Etsy would be easier than craft shows. But some sellers love the interaction with customers and other sellers.

    1. I just think because most of my signs are large 2, 3 and 4 feet that mailing them would be a hassle, but then setting up a booth and taking it down in the same day is a hassle, too. We used to have a great shop in town where you could rent a booth space by the month . . . that would be ideal.

  5. Looks like a neat farm girl fair! Those are such fun. I've done a few booths at fairs, etc. and it is a huge PAIN in the you-know-what to set them up and take them down! Especially if it's outdoors and you have to put up a canopy too.... I would say if you do it, be sure to do it where it's up for more than one day, but then of course, you still have to remove your wares and trust that no one will take your canopy and table, etc.!! If you sell alot, it's worth it, but if you go to the trouble and pay the space rent, and then sell only a couple of things (been there done that), then it's not worth it. It's hard to know what types of people will be coming through. Sometimes you are lucky and find some who like what you've made, other times there are people who have no interest whatsoever in your craft! An antique mall is a good idea, where you have a little niche for your things, and you leave it up all the time. That I think, would be best.. but of course, you pay a monthly space rent. Maybe make signs all year, and find a good Christmas craft fair going on that last for 2-3 days.. and sell them all out then! It's so hard really, to know how to handle it! Marilyn

    1. I like the Christmas fair idea. I have even told Steve that we have the perfect space to put something like that on. Maybe fall and spring with outside booths all around the yard. Still thinking and looking into the insurance side of doing something like that :)

    2. You DO have a perfect place to have your own little "fair"!!! And you can make your own BIG sign to advertise it! Oh... I went and looked at the Art and Sand blog. Wow did I enjoy looking at all the beachy pictures and the wonderful flowers and roses! Makes me really really miss the beach. I was just there in April (Oregon coast) but am ready to go again. But there is something so different and special about the California coast. Wish I could go again. Haven't been there for probably 40 years.

  6. What a fun place to spend a few relaxing hours. Sounds like the prices were reasonable, which means I could go broke in a place like that.

    1. I know, if I had not driven my car and took the truck instead, there would have been a blue and white stripe wing-back chair come home with me, too :)

  7. Well the pink boots and pink quilt may not be your style but I am the one who wears pink! LOL Afraid I am no help in how to sell your signs but am sure you will come up with the best way! Enjoy the day! Nancy

    1. Hi Diane, yes it was $60 and there was a gorgeous one for $40 that was red, white and blue with little log cabins and stars on it. It almost came home with me :)

  9. Love that antique typewriter! Are there a lot of craft shows in your area? You might try renting booths for those. Yes, it's definitely a lot of work...loading all your signs into your vehicle, setting up the booth, working the booth, then taking everything down and hauling everything home. Would it be worth it? Who knows unless you try! :-)

    1. You are so right, we never know unless we try. There are very few shows in our area. If we lived on the west side of our state, around the Seattle area, there would be one just about any week you wanted to go. I love this old typewriter and will be using it the same way that Carol doe . . . with an inspirational message to keep my mind on the right track and remember the positive side of everyday life :) Do you follow Carol's blog? It's beautiful!

    1. I know that one . . . just this month I've donated four huge trash bags filled with stuff to the senior center. Now I'm bringing home more . . . I may be in need of a brain transplant. One that stays clear of junk sales, LOL.

  13. The antique typewriter is a fantastic buy. Craft shows are a rarity where I live in Australia and even in our corner of France, which is a great pity. However, we have many artisans around us in our French village so we buy directly from their workshops. Good luck with your signs.

  14. Oh I would love this place. Some of our local stores sell handmade items, you could see if there are any businesses in your area do that. Or you could always at least try this fancy farm girl vintage market at leastonce. Then you'll have a better idea if its for you or not

  15. Connie- I LOVE your old typewriter. That is just perfect!!!! If there is a Main Street program in your area that will have mom & pop stores and someone there should take your signs on consignment....or how about a consignment shop...

You can find a replacement ribbon for your typewriter online. I am so glad you found one! xo Diana

    1. Hi Diana, thanks for the advice . . . that is certainly something to look into, both the shops and the ribbon. I don't really want to type on it, but I think it would be nice to have a ribbon so that it was in perfect working order. Something cool to show the granddaughters, a little history before the computer age :)

  16. It's fun to explore new ideas. I'm sure you'll come up with a positive and successful way to market your signs. Have fun with the ''new " typewriter. I'm sue there's some where to find a ribbon.

  17. So many good things to see in your photos! My daughter is 15 years old and loves vintage items like I do. She has 3 antique typewriters, but only one that has the ribbon and works. She has 2 remingtons and an oliver which is pretty cool. :-) Have a great night!

    1. I started collecting old items when I was about her age. Then when I left home they all ended up in a sale or given away . . . my mother moved across country and only had room for what she could get in her car. It's not like I had a lot of things, but the point is I had a love for them back then, too. The things that I like best are tools found around a home, especially old kitchen tools and bowls. I am a lover of old mixing bowls, LOL.

  18. Hi Connie, you have such an open-hearted, friendly writing voice. I look forward to reading your blog in the future. I also like to create, but I can get bogged down with the everyday wifemomlife stuff that I have to procrastinate on artistic endeavors.

We have got some amazing vintage stores (full of booths) where we live in Huntsville, Alabama. I also have thought that I may like to have my own booth, but I may wait on that venture for now.

I hope you'll visit my blog at www.sweetgumlife.com -- Today I posted the first part of a short story or novella (not sure which it will be just yet).

I have posted photos from several vintage stores in our area, and I also like to post about our artistic community, which is housed in this huge old former factory. It's called Lowe Mill because that was the name of the factory. One of my favorite things to photograph is the huge building because of its scruffy wooden floors and brick.

Anyway, I hope to hear from you soon. Congratulations on 40 years of marriage! My sweetie and I are about to celebrate our 19th!

    Blessings,
    Stephanie

    1. Hi Stephanie, It is great to meet you and thank you for following my blog. I hope that you receive this comment back in an email, because I tried visiting your blog and this does not take me there. It went to G+ and only a photo, no place to click to go to your blog. I thought that you would want to know. I did hit follow there in hopes that it would open up your blog . . . hopefully you can get this figured out and I'll will try again in a few days. I would love to read your posts. Have a lovely day! P.S. you could send your blog address and I could get to it that way.

  19. Oh Connie, congrats on your typewriter find, I love the old ones!! It looks like there was a lot of neat goodies there to look at.
Does your area have a farmers market? I have noticed that some of them have some crafts at them along with the fruits and veggies, maybe you could do something like that

    1. That is an idea that I have been considering . . . but I haven't looked into it yet. The fact is I want to get a few more signs made and then a few barn quilts first, to have a good inventory. This vintage sale is a once a year thing and fairly new in our area . . . so once a year might not be to bad. The cost is $100 for a 10X10 space for 6 hours. Does that sound high or is it about right?

  20. Connie, this ribbon on Amazon might work for your typewriter: https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Typewriter-Ribbon-Spool-Black/dp/B002BTLNKO. I really like the turquoise bird cage.

    1. Nancy you are so thoughtful, thanks. I really thought that it would be almost impossible to find. I copied that link and visited the site. Later today I'll go out to the barn and see if the one on the typewriter has those little holes in the center . . . then again that may not matter. I will certainly be ordering this :) You are so sweet to go to the trouble of looking for me, thank you again :)

    1. Hi Fran, thanks for your encouraging words about my signs, I truly appreciate hearing that you think they would sell. I hope so :) Old typewriters are so cool, but I do like the spell -check and the backspace buttons on our computers, LOL.
