Enjoying My Simple Life

The Morning Glories and the Zinnias
are growing well outside the
Art Barn door.

Although; I have not seen one single flower
on the Morning Glories.

Does anyone know why?
I'm baffled.

Notice my new wicker loveseat . . .
Home Depot marked them down from
$109  to  $49.
How could I resist, right!
It even came with the seat cushion.

I did have to move things around
to make room for it . . .

but after about three tries
I finally figured it out
and made room :)

My zucchini is going crazy
and I cannot keep up with it . . .
so four times this week I have
set a box out on the road.
It doesn't take long at all
before it is empty:)

Well that's it . . . if you have the time,
Please leave a comment, I love reading them.

    1. Hi Betsy, there's a box of zucchini out by the road right now . . . I wish there was a way that I could just email them to you :) Happy Sunday.

  2. Nice deal on the wicker loveseat. I would have snagged that too. You need to build yourself a little produce stand to set out by the road

    1. I've thought about making a stand when my tomatoes start over flowing. Sacking them up for a $1 a sack. Then I could use the money that comes in for my next year's seeds :)

  3. Connie, I adore that little quote at the end of your post. I laughed about the free zucchini..of course someone wanted to have them. I stop at a tiny little place in the town north of here...someone private garden veggies are selling on a shelf at the side of the road..I get the yellow squash...we love it..it's like a quarter each. Your place looks so fun . I think you got a great deal on the settee. You area is so cheerful. I can not help you on the morning glory...I have not figured out why my hydrangeas have no flower heads. None. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

    1. Hi Susie, thanks for stopping by. I've been putting a few yellow squash in the box too, but the zucchini are growing so fast that I think if I sat a chair out there and just watched them for a while I would see them growing before my eyes, LOL. I'm happy that you like the cheerfulness of the barn . . . I keep the colors toned down more in the house, but in the barn I like to mix it up and use lots of happy colors. I want it to be a fun and exciting place to inspire creativity :)

  4. Connie...your flowers are beautiful! I haven't a clue about the morning glories but hopefully someone can help with that or Google it....I'm constantly Googling and it's amazing how I get answers to some of my weirdest questions! LOL! Your art barn is gorgeous! So cozy and pretty. Do you have a fireplace in there too? You inspire me to get going with more decorating. I keep hoping to move but meanwhile I need to enjoy exactly where I am. Thank you for sharing your darling decorating and look at all your artwork! You are talented my friend! Good job on nabbing that wicker loveseat...who can resist a bargain like that? Have a great week!

    1. Hi sweetie, and thanks for stopping by to visit. I do have one of those electric fireplaces in the barn. It is one that I had in the living room of our old house. It puts off heat and has realistic flames that make the barn feel very cozy in the fall and winter :) I used to truly dislike the cold icy season of winter. Now, I have changed the seasons from Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter . . . to . . . Spring, Summer, Fall and Quilting season, LOL.

  6. Isn't it fun when you have extra produce to share! And I have been on the receiving end before and thankful for people sharing their extra. When you post pictures of your art barn I like looking at it for ideas I might do!! LOL I had a loveseat similar to the one you just bought. Mine was uncomfortable to sit on but the seat you have looks more comfortable. Is the design on the side of your ladder from a stencil or did you do it without one? Have a most wonderful Sunday! God has given us a lovely sunny day outside today. Nancy

    1. Hi Nancy, I had to go back up and look at the photo before answering your question, because I use both. The flowers on the side that you see are just freehand painting, but I did use stencils on the steps. I'm so happy that you like my barn and that it inspires new ideas for you :)

  7. P.S. I don't have many blossoms on my Morning Glories this year either. What is that purple flower with the white center? Nancy

    1. Hi again . . . Nancy I planted those purple and white flowers from seed and then threw away the package so I don't know the name. They are pretty and like to bloom in the cool of the day. In the afternoon when the sun gets hot they close up. They remind me a little bit of a petunia, but that is not what they are.

  8. That art barn is so much fun! I bet you love spending time in there!! Morning Glories don't like to be fed, maybe that's why they aren't flowering? I'm assuming they are in full sun as they are sharing space with zinnias...other than that I don't know what the issue may be!

    1. I planted them in that spot last year and the ones this year are all from seeds that were dropped from those. Last year I had lots of blooms . . . even if they never bloom, I do like the heart shaped leaves and think that the vines are pretty. I do put manure in my beds, but I also did that last year. I guess if that's my only problem, I really don't have any problems at all . . . hallelujah!

    1. Hi Sunny, thank you and oh, I wish you did too. I just hate seeing any food go to waste. I still have zuccinni bread in the freezer from last year and I haven't been in the mood to bake. I'll probably wait until the end of summer and then bake up a dozens loafs to freeze. Someone told me that you can pickle them just like cucumbers so that's a thought, too. I have a box out by the road right now :)

  10. That is a smart idea giving away zucchini and squash at the end of the driveway. I will have to remember that next time. I finally just had mine plowed down.

  11. I have no idea why your morning glories aren't blooming. They're in the sun and they're obviously nice and healthy, so ??? Great deal on that wicker loveseat! How nice of you to put your extra zucchini out by the roadside for people to take. I don't think I've ever seen a striped variety like that. I'm only familiar with the traditional green.

    1. Hi Melanie, I purchase my seed from Bountiful Gardens they are a sustainable seed company in Willits, CA. They sell only old fashioned seeds that are open-pollinated heirloom varieties. I've had very good luck with them and appreciate the fact that they are not genetically-engineered hybrids. They specialize in very tasty varieties of edibles, as well as rare, endangered and unusual seed varieties.

  13. I love you new wicker seat. Isn't it funny how we can always squeeze in one more thing. I can't get a morning glory vine to even grow...so I'm thinking yours looks good, even with no blooms. All of your flowers are beautiful!

    1. I agree about the morning glories, even if they don't bloom I think that the heart shaped leaves and the dark green color is beautiful :)

  14. Your Morning Glories look so lush and healthy I wonder why they are slow in blooming? Maybe they'll surprise you one of these mornings. Your Zucchini also looks as if it's doing great!
Your new wicker loveseat makes your art barn look even cosier. Anyone would love to move right in! Isn't it fun re arranging things once in a while to fit a new piece in?

  17. Hmmmm, don't know why the flowers aren't blooming, if you just planted them this year maybe it will take a year for them to bloom... Great deal on the wicker bench, I just heard today that August is the best time to buy outdoor furniture. I bet your neighbors are glad you can't keep up with the garden goodies, so nice of you to share!

  19. Your flowers are so beautiful! I always enjoy looking at your Art Barn pictures. Great deal on the wicker loveseat. I am going to Lowe's this weekend and am anxious to see if their patio furniture is marked down yet. Of course here in Florida summer is not even close to being over. August is really our hottest month! I have been busy getting my new classroom set up and decorated. Tomorrow is my first day back on the slock. SUmmer break flew by...as usual! Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week.

    1. Wow Vicky! It does seem like your summer break just started . . . time flies when you're having fun :) August is our hottest month, too . . . we are having days in the 100's and it is suppose to stay that way for a couple weeks or more. Then there are the forest fires north of us . . . the winds have been coming from that direction so we have been breathing smokey air . . . not fun. It's funny how the stores are always so far ahead of the seasons . . . around here they start putting swimsuits out in February when it's 20 degrees outside, but if you try and find one in August . . . you hope there is one in your size in the markdown bids, because the stores are starting to put out their winter coats. I don't know about Florida but they even start putting out Christmas around here at the end of October . . . it's kind of crazy, LOL. I'll bet that you are excited for this new school year . . . I think it is great that you are moving up a grade and keeping your same kids.

    2. Believe it or not, I was in Hobby Lobby the other day and they have some Christmas out already! Good grief...it's in the high 90's and sweltering hot! Nobody is in the mood for Christmas now. LOL! October is when all the other stores put out Christmas here too though. Crazy! I hope the smoke has improved or gone completely. Take care...Hugs, Vicky

    3. We still have smoke, but it is not as bad as it was a week ago. I feel so sorry for those folks that have to live through that . . . having a cabin in the woods sounds wonderful, until you think of forest fires.

  20. Hi Connie, Love your cozy work area and your new loveseat! You are wondering about your Morning Glories like I'm wondering about why my Sunflowers are small with about 12 flowers on each stalk ? Your plant itself is pretty with its green healthy leaves though. Enjoy the summer and so nice of you to share your harvest ! Lisa@ Sweet Tea N' Salty Air

    1. Hi Lisa, I have one sunflower that is doing that, too. The others are just the one stalk, but I kind of like the bushy more flower version. Let's blame it on the bees, LOL.

  21. Hi Connie, Your flowers are beautiful! I am in awe how your lovely cottage has evolved! I can finally post a comment and blog again.....I'm sure you were surprised to see this. I've always enjoyed your talent and your sweet heart! Hopefully, the problem is gone(and I finally was able to take more time with it) and will be blogging again. Love all your beautiful colors! As for why your morning glories aren't blooming...they need some sun (looks like u have) or they may be blooming late this year. If u don't get any, I think sometimes they didn't seed well. Blessings & hugs...keep up the good work!

    1. Hello Sweet Roxie . . . you have made my day! I think that my heart actually skipped a beat when I saw that you had visited and left a comment. 22. Hi Connie. Your art barn looks fantastic. So cozy and fun. How wonderful to find your loveseat at such a great price. About your morning glories, they just might be late in blooming. It can take up to 120 days for them to bloom from seed. Also, they like poor soil and no fertilizer. If the soil is too rich they'll get a lot of foliage, but no blooms. However, I'm guessing since yours bloomed last year that they'll bloom again this year. Morning glories are one of the last annuals to bloom. Your flowers are gorgeous. Nice job. Hugs.

    1. Hi Nancy, The Holy Spirit is still working on me in the patience department, LOL. These Morning Glories came up from seed that they dropped in the ground last year . . . no help from me, so I will enjoy the foliage and let the Morning Glories do their thing . . . be anxious in nothing :) I have to remind myself of this, sometimes.

  23. I haven't been by in a while and needed to do some catching up and,,,my, oh my Connie!! Have you been a busy busy bee! How clever of you to figure out how to put a drip line in an inaccessible location. Your garden looks so cute and so prolific! Have you tried making those zoodles with your zucchini? I hear it's all the rage and am thinking of giving it a try. Would love to stop by for a slice of that apricot pie from your last post. (love apricots) May August be a wonderful month for you as we enjoy the last few weeks of summer and may this heat wave break soon! Blessings to you!

    1. Hi Gloria, I am so glad that you reminded me of that. I bought one of those zoodle makers last year and we used it a couple of times. Now, I noticed that there are all kinds of recipes using them on the internet. I think I'll try one of them tomorrow night for dinner :) We are having a heat wave too . . . but that's August for you. Happy Summer!
