October Blooms

All work and no play
makes Connie a dull girl, LOL.

I've been clearing the garden
and taking it to the dump.
I have way too much plant life
for my compost bin.

So instead of showing you photos
of the old pick-up loaded
for the dump . . .

I thought that I would show
you some of our October blooms.

This bouquet is a mix
of pink roses, zinnia and
autumn joy.

Hopefully, I'll get this work done . . .
and be on to more creative
adventures very soon.

Oh, I've been canning and
saving garden seed, too :)

Have A Lovely Weekend
Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

    1. I just put a small glass jelly jar inside the baking power tin so that it would hold water . . . it looks farm style to me :) I'm delighted that you like it.

  3. Connie, You are a working girl for sure. It really shows how much work you do around your place, because the flowers are gorgeous. I would like to know how you save your seeds for the next year's garden...do you put them in brown bags?? Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Hi Susie, I usually put them in small envelopes or just recycle my junk mail envelopes. This year I came into a box of small jelly jars so I was thinking about using them . . . although they do recommend keeping them in a cool, dark, dry place.

    1. My can has cardboard sides so I inserted a small glass jelly jar to hold water for the flowers :)
I'm happy that you like it.

    1. The same to you . . . I am really for cooler weather. I cleaned my closet and packed away all of my short sleeves and summer pants . . . I hope that we don't get one of those autumn heat waves, LOL.

  8. Lovely autumn blooms. It's fun to plant, harder to cleanup in the fall. (At least for me)

    1. I agree it is much harder work in the fall. Our old pick-up is full and it's all tomato vines. That's not all; it's my second trip to the dump. The first had a few tomatoes but mostly other vines and plants. I planted 39 tomato plants this year . . . never again, LOL.

    1. Hi Betsy, I'm not one for fancy vases . . .I like to look around the house for cute and interesting things. Clabber Girl baking soda has always kept their can old fashioned . . . I like that :)

  10. You have so many flowers in bloom...you have a green thumb my friend. Or maybe it's that scarecrow in your garden. We have roses blooming but it was 90 degrees here today! I bought mums to put in pots today. I hope they can tolerate the heat! Happy Fall my friend!

    1. Mums do tend to like cool weather, but they like humidity too, so you have that :) I'll bet it feels so good to have Iram over and done with . . . planting flowers sounds like the perfect thing to do after such a horrible storm. It's a true act of faith . . . life goes on and we make the most of it :)

  11. Your Roses are still doing so well! I like your creative 'vases'.
I started collecting seeds today too; from the Rattlesnake pole bean plant that the littlest grand brought home from school last year. That one plant gave us so many to eat and now has many ripe pods that I'm keeping an eye on.

    1. This is my first year to plant Rattlesnake beans. We loved them and I have tried other green beans with not nearly the success of these. Next year I plan on planting one or two rows :) They say that they are a great crop to plant after tomatoes to rotate the crops . . . I've had tomatoes in our main garden all four year that we have lived here, so I think next year is going to be a rotation year :) Do you do that?

    2. The areas in our back yard that get sunshine all day are limited so we can't really do much rotation.

  12. Hi Connie, Your flowers are so pretty. And I also like your baking powder can. Mine is not like that but Rumford. I may save it as would be nice for a little vase. I don't have a lot of flowers to pick in my yard right now but tempted to go pick some wild ones. My hubby bought me a beautiful rose to enjoy though. In my enthusiasm I bought a bushel and a half of apples so we are exhausted from canning applesauce today. Doesn't take much to exhaust us! LOL Could I bother you for the dimensions of that cuddle quilt. I won't be doing them for this Christmas but am determined to get started earlier on them for next Christmas. Am working on a couple more mug rugs and crocheting fold over pot holders for this year. Have a great week-end! Nancy

    1. My quilts are all different sizes because I just add on until it looks right. I don't think that I have ever measured one after finishing it. The Grandma cuddle quilt I would guess to be around 50X65 inches . . . bigger that a baby quilt and smaller that a bed quilt. I think that I guess the size by my height and what I would want to cuddle in (my friend is a little bit taller than me so I added a extra few inches to hers). I'm 5'4" and so making it 60 inches long gives me plenty of room to cover up and always have my shoulders and toes cozy. When I made Steve's cuddle quilt I had to make it longer for his 6'3" frame. I hope this helps.
      Happy quilting :)

  14. Connie I love the blooms in the baking powder can. They look wonderful in your window. That can has such a great vintage look to it. It looks the same as I remember when I was a young girl seeing it in my moms kitchen. Such a classic look.

  18. You always have such a pretty post. Connie, that Sedum, Autumn Joy is just beautiful! Wish you could see mine. It would work perfect for a hanging basket. If it would stand up, it would look like yours, but this Autumn Joy flops over. It has always been like this. I'm wondering if it doesn't get enough sun. We do have a lot of shade. Your canned tomatoes look so good!

    1. I have one by the front porch that is like that. It gets more shade than sun, too. Maybe we should each replant them next spring and see if they do better in a sunny spot. I love them, they are so easy to grow and look pretty in their green stage as well as their pink stage.

    1. I have a few plants still hanging on . . . my cucumbers are full, so I'm thinking about making another batch of bread and butter pickles, only using another recipe. I think it would be nice to compare and see which we like best. It's sad to see the garden go, but nice to invite the autumn weather with it's crisp fresh air. I'm enjoying cleaning my closet and replacing my thin summer clothes with warm cozy sweaters, socks and long pants. Even though i'm not fond of winter's freezing temperatures, I do enjoy living in and area where there is definitely a change in the seasons :)
