Full Time Hubby

We have had a wonderful week.
Lot's of great things going on.
One of the small projects that I've
done is build this bird feeder.
I wanted something easy to fill :)

The bees have been happy . . .

The flowers are looking lovely . . .

Picket fences and roses
just make a great combination,
don't you agree?

The very best thing that happened
this week is that Steve retired his
work overalls.

So, I turned them into pillows:)
The one on the right is from a skirt
that I retired.

This is the back the
bib overalls pillow.

Why did he retire them . . .
because he is a full-time retiree
as of this week!

To celebrate we went out to dinner . . .
and I gave him a quilt
that I made for his recliner
in the 5th wheel.

Now, we should have more time for camping:)

This is the back.

Retirement will mean that we will
have to learn to live on
a fixed income and maybe even tighten
our belts a little . . .
but the good Lord has always been there
to see us through.

I'm looking forward to many
happy years and many happy mornings
where he doesn't have to go off to work.
It will be nice not packing a
lunch bucket each day, too.
I wonder how many I have packed
in 42 years?

Life is sweet!

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  1. What a beautiful retirement gift! My hubby and I retired five years ago and have not regretted it once! We are home bodies so we don't need much money... just for food, a few bills and a little bit of camping! Enjoy your days together... and congratulations to your hubby on his retirement!

  2. Lovely gift! Congratulations on the full-time hubby. I don't know what I would do without mine. It took a month or two of adjustment, but this is what we always worked for. Our biggest adjustment was . . . .lunch. He has to fix his own now!

    1. Lunch has been a trial here, too, but it's already getting better. That and the fact that the only time our kitchen was pretty and clean was after I cleaned it in the morning, until the time he got home from work, LOL. Those are small little drop in the bucket things. The big picture is that he's home and it's wonderful :)

  3. Now that your husband is retired, he may need a new pair of overalls! I can imagine how much the two of you are going to enjoy retirement! The pillow and quilt are the perfect gift! Congratulations to you both!

    1. He's wearing sweat pants and enjoying the freedom to sleep in and wake up without an alarm clock going off before the sun comes up :) I retired a few years ago, so now we are truly ready to enjoy this precious time together.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog. I love company :)

  4. Congratulations to you and Steve!!!! REtirement is the best thing in the world. We had to tighten our belts a bit, but we have everything we need, and we're able to do some travelling while we're still young enough(?) to enjoy it. The quilt looks like the perfect gift.

  5. Everything is so pretty! Beautiful flowers! and the pillows are special! I do hope you have many more years to enjoy the retirement of your husband. My farmer retired from teaching to become a full time farmer with no retirement in sight for us! :)

    1. Farming is a full time job. We don't have animals other than a little dog, but our garden does tie us down this time of the year. It must be watered, weeded, hoed, harvested and the food put up for winter. My sweet Steve is just learning more about how there is a schedule to keep it going and healthy . . . it's nice having his help. The best part about retirement is just being home together.

  6. Congratulations to your hubby on his retirement. You're so creative, you even made pillows out of his overalls!!!

In the last photo your succulents look so green and healthy. Mine are getting bleached by our very hot sunshine. I've never heard of them not being able to take the sun, have you?

    1. I have one group of succulents that are turning yellow, I think it might be because I have been watering them to much. Too much water came turn things yellow. I'm not really sure, it could be something else. Mine are planted in the shell of an old pine tree log, it could be something about the wood.

  7. Congratulations on Steve retiring! Good for him. Love the quilt you made for him for the camper recliner and the special tag on the back. Guess I never ever thought about making Bob a quilt! I saved a pattern for a jean pillow with a pocket. I have collected quite a few jeans and have a jean skirt that is too large. Just need time to do all the things I want to make. Priorities, right! Your roses and fence are very pretty and I like the little bird feeder you made. You have been busy! Enjoy your time together now. Nancy

  10. I love your photos. The overall pillows and quilt are special mementos of his retirement. Oh, how I wish Dennis could retire now too. It’s the health insurance thing for me that is keeping him working. We would be full-time rving if we could. We hope to sell everything and hit the road.

    1. Health insurance is our biggest problem too, but we are in the process of getting it figured out. Steve's company insurance is in effect until the end of the month and we are hoping that we can get everything set up with a supplement insurance by then. There might be a small gap because of paper work. It is a little bit scary, but we have decided to do what we can and give the Lord room to do the rest. After we go through it all, if you have any questions that I can answer, I'd be happy to.

  17. 10,500 lunches?? Whew that's a lot in 42 years. But I was only giving you 2 weeks vacation per year!! Lol! I've probably made that many lunches for hubby also! Flowers, pillows and quilt are beautiful!! Enjoy retirement....but you will still have to make lunches at home or camping just at different times!! (no retirement for wifey)

  22. That is wonderful that your hubby gets to retire! It may take a few months of adjusting and not having to rush rush rush all the time! That was me.... but I enjoyed every minute of not having to rush. Even now, after 8 years of being retired, I HATE having to rush to do anything and I hate BEING rushed.. and I love sleeping in and staying up as late as I want to! You two will so enjoy that front porch even more now. Every moment will be precious and I know Steve will thank the Lord every day that he doesn't have to rush off to work! My hubby and I are both real homebodies too... love our home and being home and working around our home. We would like to do a little camping with our little trailer (and by the way, that's another story... got a little 5th wheel trailer that needs work - going to get rid of the camper)............. money IS much tighter unless retirement has been planned for. We didn't and had no savings or money put aside.. so is tougher.. and hard sometimes to have enough for even a small road trip or for fixing up the trailer now. Little by little is how it gets done.. baby steps with a goal set in our minds. I still TOTALLY appreciate that I don't have to rush and go to work.. and I do wonder how in the HECK I did find time to work! I'm sure Steve will think the same thing when he is faced with your Honey Do lists! Enjoy! xoxo Marilyn
