On the road with our 5th wheel . . .
we needed a break from gardening and canning.
All work and no play make
Steve and Connie a dull couple :)
These first three photos where taken
from the window of the truck
while driving along the highway.
Destination Lincoln Rock State Park
where we spent four sweet days relaxing.
This sign tells of the nature
rock formation that resembles the
profile of our 16th president
Abraham Lincoln.
It was smokey from near by forest
fires, but the photos turned out
well enough for you to see his profile.
The campgrounds are beautiful
and because we arrived
the day after Labor Day
the park was quiet and filled
with retirees.
If you don't have a camper,
they have these lovely river side
cabins to rent.
Butchy was content with his
new doggy play pen,
and he enjoyed getting to take a
walk on the trails twice a day :)
About a mile down the road from the park
was this sweet fruit stand.
I took this photo from the truck.
I had already bought apples
before leaving home,
or we would have stopped.
Of course when a trip comes to
a close, it is always wonderful to be
home again.
Today I'm picking tomatoes and
canning again . . .
make hay while the sun shines, LOL.
Besides that, winter is coming
and it's almost time to put the
garden to bed.
Have a sweet week,
Thanks for visiting
and
Keep Smiling.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
Thanks for allowing me to follow along on the trails I'll never see in real life. I know there must be some beautiful places out there. How wonderful to still be having things from your garden!
ReplyDeleteWe normally don't get a frost until mid October, but I like to have everything pulled up and cleared away by the end of September. I do have some late green beans that are just starting to bloom, so I am looking forward to putting them up for winter, but will be happy to have this all none soon for another year. I'm ready for the restfulness of winter:)
DeleteWe’re at the lake and I asked our veteran Washington campers about that park and none of them had heard of it. We all agreed it looks like a beautiful place. How fun to have a quiet place to yourselves. It’s a bit nippy out here today with the breeze coming off of the lake. We had some sprinkles last night and that really helped k ick down the smoke, we’re going to have to close up here by the end of the month but you can definitely feel fall in the air today.

Hi Betsy, I am so surprised that none of your friends know about Lincoln Rock State Park. It is just 4 miles out of Wenatchee, WA along the Columbia River. It's very near Rocky Reach Dam, but on the other side of the river. I keep a camping journal and rate our trips, this is the first park that I have given a 5 star rating to :) It's a very nice place to camp.
DeleteWhat amazing scenery. It is good to have alittle break away from time to time.
ReplyDeleteYes it is . . . we had a lovely time. i took a walk morning and evening each day . . . I never find the time for that at home, just trying to walk once a day and I never seem to do it more than twice or three times a week.
DeleteFour wonderful days of rest - well deserved, for gardening and canning are hard work. Of course, the cleaning up afterward is almost the hardest. You certainly had a beautiful drive, and the camp ground is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. I am a very messy canner. I try, but it never fails that I drip sauces and jellies and mess up the entire kitchen. My motto is if the kitchen needs a good cleaning, can first or you'll have to do everything twice :)
DeleteA beautiful getaway. Everyone needs to do that once in awhile. Glad you did.
ReplyDeleteMe too! Part of the time that we were there was spent doing paper piecing with my sister-in-law. It was a great way to visit while sitting out under the shade trees and enjoying the sweet peace and relaxation of camping.
DeleteHow fabulous to get away in that wonderful camper of yours and enjoy all that beautiful scenery. Wonderful photos of the scenery along the way, Connie. Isn't that the cutest fruit stand.
ReplyDeleteI love that fruit stand and it boasts that it grows everything it sells. I really like that . . . nothing brought in from other areas, everything freshly picked. :) Sweet!!!
DeleteAlways nice to get a way for a bit and you sure picked a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteThe rock formation that looks like Lincoln is pretty cool.
It's looks very much like him to not have been done by man. Amazing :)
DeleteBeautiful scenic drive. That rock formation is amazing
ReplyDeleteI Agree, thanks for stopping by to visit :)
DeleteI am glad you got away for a break! Great to find a wonderful campground. Might it be close enough for a quick get away now and then? I am a messy canned too! Messy cook I guess too! Nice little cage for butchy! Nancy
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy, when we got home and I checked my mail box, there was a sweet card and bookmark from you . . . Thank you so much :)
DeleteI enjoyed looking at your photos. Life on the road is one my happiest times.

Tossing It Out
It is certainly fun to get away and enjoy nature and the relaxation that one gets when they leave their household chores at home, LOL.
DeleteOh how I would love to do that...I am glad you got away wouldn't want you to be dull. (not that you are) Always, great to get away and relax. Have a wonderful evening.
ReplyDeleteThank you and thanks for stopping by and for being such a sweet blogging sister.
DeleteConnie, really enjoyed taking this trip with you. I'd love a fruit stand like that close by.
ReplyDeleteI know that fruit stand was sweet and I loved that they grow everything that they sell :)
DeleteAmazing landscape, this is exactly how I imagine American roads
ReplyDeleteThis is a very common landscape in the western states. Lots of mountains, and winding roads.
DeleteIt's lovely to get away from it all and relax amid amazing scenery. And when you come back it's lovely just to be home again.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right . . . and no matter where I am the best bed in the world in my bed at home. That's where I get the best nights sleep.
DeleteWhat a lovely getaway trip you and Steve had, Connie. A lovely break in your busy routine! It is nice to come home though after a trip, especially when you have a lovely home like yours with a garden!
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet . . . thank you :)
DeleteSo glad you got to get away for a few days! That is a beautiful spot you camped at! How neat to see Lincoln in the face of that rock.. really neat. I had never heard of that park either, but haven't done that much camping in Washington State parks.. but how neat to have that nice green grass there. I bet you did need a break from all that gardening and canning! Alot of work for sure. Sometimes a few days away rejuvenates us so we are much more ready to work when we get home! I hope it did the same for you. Funny.. when I'm away somewhere, I seem to find the time to take walks, but when I'm home, I don't find the time and really don't feel like walking around the same old neighborhood. Being away, seeing new sights... really helps us to feel like walking I think. Enjoy your Sunday! Marilyn
ReplyDeleteIt always fun to enjoy a new surrounding for a while, but like they say, "There is no place like home" :)
DeleteLooks like an amazing trip away with such beautiful scenery. Always nice to be home sweet home.
ReplyDeleteIt was very nice, but there's no place quite as sweet as home :)
DeleteLooks like a very pretty place to get away and enjoy quiet time.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with your continued canning :)
BTW.. we'll have to chat about our sweet and sour sauce when we get it completed.
Smiles :)
~K.
Yes we will . . . I'm looking forward to trying it :)
DeleteI love that you and Steve get away once in awhile for a change of pace - and you find such beautiful places to camp, too! That is so cool how you can see Lincoln's profile in the rocks. You are amazing for doing all that canning!
ReplyDeleteThanks . . . I just have a hard time wasting any of your garden when I know that we can put it up and enjoy it all year:) It's a great feeling knowing the contain of our jars and knowing that our garden was not sprayed with harmful chemicals. I love that knowledge, it makes be feel very good about what we are eating :)
DeleteGreat photos! I have never tried canning anything. but then again, I cant get a garden to grow either. I love camping!!!
ReplyDeleteLisa
Camping is so much fun, isn't it! As for gardening and canning, I never did either one until we bought our country home with room to actually have a garden. There are so many people that just don't have the room, the sun, or the time for a garden. That's was me . . . before retiring and moving here :)
DeleteOh wow that rock does look like him, I even asked my husband what it looked like and he hadn't read and he guessed Lincoln :) Oh that park does look so pretty to camp in and nice that they have cabins for those of us without a camper. Glad Butchy had a nice time also, it is nice to get away but always nice to come back home too! Good luck getting all your canning done soon!
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, we just put up 7 more quarts and 7 more pints of marinara sauce. I've gone a little bit crazy with the canning, but I love the thought of having all this fresh from the garden food in our pantry.
DeleteSo nice to be able to get away and relax a little bit, isn't it? :-) Butchy looks like he had fun too! Lovely photos and I certainly do see Lincoln's profile! How neat! Enjoy the comforts of home too ;-) I always say it's great to travel but there's nothing like coming back home too.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Jill
I know, the first night home and sleeping in my own bed was wonderful :)
DeleteA camping trip, how wonderful, Connie. It's been forever since I went camping. Lincoln Rock State Park is a lovely place to visit. I like those cabins - that picture looks just like Autumn. Look at all those tomatoes for canning! That's a great thing you're doing, Connie.
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Hi Sheri, thanks. I'm new to canning but I absolutely love it. It's wonderful having food stored that you know has no harmful chemicals and that you grew from little seeds and plants :)
