Makeover Apron

I've had some unexpected
time to sew :)

The tractor has been giving
me trouble since
driving over an above ground
root and getting the blade stuck
a couple weeks ago.

So I decided to get it fixed
before it turned into
something harder to fix.
I also had him take my
push mower.  It has been sitting
for about 6 years,
but started right up.
The only thing is that the
self-propelled function
doesn't work.

Well, with those gone
they put yard work on hold.
✂🪡🪡🪡✂
Time for fun with
the sewing machine.

This apron was a gift
from my sweet neighbor.
She gave it to me
many years ago.
It is so cute but I
haven't worn it much
because it's long waisted
and has no pockets.
I love the flour sack look,
it's just my style :)

I shortened it up by
taking a tuck in the top
and adding a ruffle.
It did make me loose the
pretty double blue stripe
and left an ugly pleat.

I've always heard that
the best way to hide
something is to put it in
plain sight or draw
attention to in.
That's why I added the
red heart buttons.

As I said before it
needed pockets.
One for my phone and
one for doggy treats :)

Even since my fall
I am paying much more
attention to having my
phone with me all the time.

Wearing an apron is the
prefect answer to that.

Well, that's what I did
today . . .

It's nice to have a
garden break . . .
if I can just keep
up with watering & weeding.
I'll be good until the
tractor gets fixed.

Have a sweet day 😇
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  1. That was a great re-do on your apron. I'm totally in agreement about aprons....they need at least one pocket preferably two.
As my fingers get less nimble I also think it would be nice if apron strings were long enough to go all around and be able to be tied in front. So much easier than tying a bow behind your back :)

    1. I agree, tying apron strings in the front is way easier than in the back.

  2. I like my chef's apron because it has huge pockets. Your up cycled apron is great.

    1. Thank you, the big question is why I didn't do it years ago❓ Pockets are so handy.

  6. Oh, what a cute apron! I love what you did to it! Yes, the pockets are a definite must have! And I love the ruffle and the buttons. You did great! Now that that's done they can bring back the tractor/mower and you can get back to business as usual! But what a great way to "kill some time!". Love it.

    1. Now that everyone carries a cell phone I think pockets are more important than ever.

  8. That's sure a cute apron and I love how you shortened it and added pockets. Ever since I got my pacemaker, Dennis insists I keep my phone with me at all times. I keep telling him that the time I was more in danger was before I got it! :-)
Enjoy your no mowing time with fun adventures.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

    1. Steve was the same way and now it's my sister-in-law (Steve's sister). If I don't answer my phone she thinks the worst has happened and usually it's just because I left it in the house and gone outside. I want to start getting in the habit of wearing an apron everyday and having that phone in the pocket.

  9. What a darling apron! I agree - aprons need pockets! I hope you are feeling better...and yes, always keep your phone on you! I do, especially when going down the stairs into the basement or outside.

  11. Nice to get your blades fized and sharpened. Your apron looks great with the new pockets, and I agree I have been making sure my phone is with me at all times now too, just in case I fall.

    1. Since my fall 2 weeks ago I have a new appreciation for keeping my phone with me all the time. I knew it was a good idea before but I wasn't diligent to do it. It was more of a hit and miss. I was very fortunate that I had two friends here when I fell and it could have been way worse than it was. I think wearing an apron with pockets is going to turn into my daily attire. 😊

  12. I'm so glad you're having some time to relax and sew! Love the cute vintage apron, and adding pockets was a great idea! since I fell 2-1/2 years ago, I vowed then and there to always have my phone with me, when walking down my street or working in my yard. I do it most of the time, but sometimes I don't, and may regret it some day! I now make sure to (almost) always wear my jeans that have pockets so I can stick my phone in one side, and a key on the other side. I also like the jeans with pockets as now, when I go to the store, I only carry a small wallet inside (in a back pocket) and my phone in the other. Carrying a heavy purse puts me off balance! When I fell, I was alone, and NO ONE was around me at all. There were no neighbors out, and I was hidden behind my car on the uphill side of my driveway. I finally dragged myself up to the flat garage floor, and somehow made it into the house (barely) and boy I wished I had my phone then! You are smart to have the apron with pockets! I may do that for inside the house. I'm even sewing some pockets on my stretch jeans that don't have pockets! I finally got my sewing machine up on my dining table! That took alot of effort as I've been in a slump again lately. So now that it's there, I hope I can make myself do some sewing, at least some mending that needs to be done. Take care and enjoy the weekend! Hugs.. Marilyn

    1. Hi Marilyn, the older we get, or maybe it's for anyone that sends a lot of time alone no matter our age having our phone handy is a good safety measure to start taking. You can get hurt doing almost anything. I bought a waterproof first aid kit that I used to put my phone in when I would go kayaking. I'm sure that cell phones have saved a lot of lives.
